  • nice job on tne video dude.

  • I am wondering if occasional use of a combustion chamber cleaning product would help prevent this problem.

  • @ihopetospeed1 The problem was the design of the spark plug Ford used. The spark plug breaks in 2 pieces.

  • @UWISHPROD Yes, I know the problem is the 2 piece spark plug design and there are better quality 1 piece replacements. What I have read is the carbon build up on the plug makes the electrode end of the plug get stuck in the head when you try to remove it. I would be reasonable to assume that if you clean the carbon from the combustion chamber side of the plug it should be less likely to get stuck in the head when you try to remove it.

  • Been dreading changing the plugs in my 02 explorer 4.6L. we bought it at 110,000kms, we asumed they weren't done, it now has 322,000kms, still havent done the plugs lol. One just blew out recently and it looked damn good for its age. helicoiled blah blah and shes good but it idles like a beat up datsun, im assuming its the plugs. Do you think 322,000kms on original plugs is asking for trouble? it missfires a lot so you get the old sulfur smell often which is the worst part.

  • @mattdaman666 Ya probably a good idea to change the plugs lol

  • @UWISHPROD well i have a feeling there too far gone

  • @mattdaman666 Im shocked the motor hasn't stopped working lol. Impressive plugs

  • How about a 1998 Mustang??? got any advice?

  • @AJGoSkate1 Ya burn it to the ground....no just kidding lol The spark plugs on that shouldnt be 2 piece but you can still use the same routine I did here

  • 1/8 turn clockwise to break it loose? Thanks for the video!

  • @majajh Ya about an 1/8 turn you can feel it when it loosens.

  • Cant forget your Malbro ciggaretes part #CCN1 as in Cancer Causer Number 1

  • Ford dealership said cost to replace 1995 explorer $250 because wheel wells must be removed to access motor !!

    what do you know???

  • @californiaspinnaker Ill send you my email and send me a pic of the engine bay

  • @californiaspinnaker I had a 98 Exploder XLT for my daily about 5 or so years ago. The rear is tight. I used 2 univerals and 3 extensions on a 3/8 from underneath. Figuritvely by me 250 is 2.5 hours to do a plug change at the dealer. Removing the inner fender does help alot though. Its if you want to try the cheat or not. Sometimes the correct way works faster and sometimes it doesnt. Its just the way the game goes vehicle to vehicle and mechanic to mechanic.

  • We use a 3/8 impact and lightly shock them, at the dealer if they break they break. Every tech has a tool anyways. If you have time between flat rate jobs we throw some PB blaster or carb cleaner down thier if its a "next day" project. We see them all come out good and some where every one you need the tool. If your gonna DIY get the tool. One breaks and it will ruin your whole day cause you wont have the tool, and you dont want to drive the truck like that.

  • @2stage90 Thanks for the advice

  • @UWISHPROD No problem. Its a crappy design. The combustion carbon locks them in there good.

  • I own 1995 Ford explorer with 60k original miles, want to change plugs, do most ford plugs break??

  • @californiaspinnaker Not sure but I don't think yours has the 2 piece spark plug setup which is why they would break. Just make sure to put anti-seize on the new spark plugs when reinstalling.

  • @californiaspinnaker If you have a 4.0 OHV engine you dont have to worry. Just get ready to have fun on the back passenger plugs by the AC box. get a bunch of U joints and extensions ready :)

  • Use the one piece Champion plugs which are $25.00 a piece,Most Ford techs highly recomend these. The factory plugs are 9/16,not 15mm.The TSB does not work worth a shit, plugs still break off.Don't use the Ford tool to remove the broken part of the spark plug, does not work.Get the Lisle kit,Part #65600

  • @wafrederick Thanks for the advice.

  • Thanks for this video. My 07GT has just under 44K, and I have been dreading changing plugs.

  • @green97probe Hope it helps. Let me know how it goes.

  • If you use an electric impact to remove the plugs, they come out EVERY Time without breaking. I have even removed plugs like that on a 04 3V truck with 140k miles and original plugs.

  • Which plugs did you replace them with?

  • @kien425 Champion one piece

  • Thanks Bro.....you save me a ton of headaches!!!!

  • @12466Adrian Thanks man. Subscribe if you can and pass the word.

  • @UWISHPROD you got it..thanks again

  • @12466Adrian No prob if you need anything else let me know or if you need anymore specific vids let me know. Thanks for the sub
