There was a plan to build the Bilbao airport a few miles north to its actual location, near the shoreline. But they finally choose to built it at Sondika/Loiu area, witch is wide open and safe, but there use to be foggy weather and crosswind there.
I have flown into Bilbao twice, 1st time, very smooth descent and landing, second was a night flight, and it was a very smooth cruise, but then was a very very rough approach as we broke through the clouds, and windy and turbulent landing! I was scared!
Had the pilot powered up the fuselage actuators while trimming the cross-wind sensors (referred to by commercially rated pilots as 'going lean') the plane would have landed perfectly. I am surprised neither measure was attempted.
Amazing pilot? WTF is so amazing about exceeding the airframe crosswind limitation? What third world POS airline is that so I make sure I never fly on them. I can haz pilot license? Sure anyone with money can haz pilots license!
Its called cross wind coefficient and it varies with the aircraft. Generally the larger the aircraft the higher the number. F18C 38deg, J-3 Cub 18deg, Falcon 10 20deg.
Crosswind angle is directly proportionate to wind speed The greater the wind the greater the angle. Crosswinds are fun and easy(after 20 or so years of practice), peace.
here's a suggestion 35c....don't try to sound like an expert on something you have NO KNOWLEDGE on. and you won't make yourself seem like a 5 year old retard.
That must have looked amazing from inside the plane. It would be just like being in a space ship landing.. Or a helicopter. You'd be looking out the window waiting to land and next thing you know you'd be stopped above the ground as if the pilot put the brakes on, and stopped in mid air, Just sitting there, LOL. maybe a little scary, but still neat.
That was a horrible landing. Those pilots weren't great. They used the improper cross wind landing technique and those types of airplanes are not designed with that much crab in the landing. It was an unstable approach and they certainly should have gone around. They did not have to land that airplane on that approach.
That pilot has 25 years experience and flew had clearance from the control tower to land that plane. The control tower knows better than the pilot the conditions on the ground. So unless you were working in the control tower that day, you would probably shut up...
This is an awesome video! There needs to be more videos like this!!! Theres a lot of videos out there that are a whole bunch of nonsense now a days. Can you upload some more?
I would have been looking out the side window thinking, uh the runway is over there, why are we pointed that way?? LOL.. Nice job though and hope I don;t have one of these anytime soon!

What's the maximum amount of angle offset a plane like that can land with? 15°? 30°?

Unreal that the landing gear can withstand the torque of hitting the runway sideways with that much weight and speed.

yep! that's why landing gears and engines are the strongest parts on planes/aircrafts.
