Technically you are not supposed to camp on top of the rock but there were people up there each night we were there. We went up to the peak in the late evening to watch the moonrise around 11 p.m. on a full moon night. It was AWESOME!

I climbed Enchanted Rock with my sister and her kids when I was about 19. It was so amazing, and the history was so rich you could feel it. I am now 29, but can remember the raw emotion the place evoked.

@GAROmx Casting is sometimes permitted on Moss Lake in the primitive camping area. Check with park staff first 830-685-3636

October 1977 slept atop rock with dad & Deputy Dog. At midnight, noisy students from UT Austin came up, Bob chewed them out. October 1995, went up with Frosty the Snowman (Samoyed dog) he waited while I went into boulder caves. Enchanted Rock, great Texas landmark like Carlsbad Caverns is to New Mexico.

@catjones271 I suggest you contact the state park or look up wensite. It may be that things have become more restrictive. We also spent several nights atop neighboring Turkey Peak, where Bob got rid of some cactus to make more space that was circa 1971-1975. The dome south of ER is smaller and lower but more isolated look at far away Pioneer Mountain to Northwest--16 feet higher than ER and MUCH more isolated there are 2 interesting peaks North of Turkey Peak.
