sambu is who got me playn the mando cause him and emmy at the ryman but the current news is that he aint not my hero any more, now that precious sierra is.......Isn't she sumthin' god bless u girl
Happy Holidays. This single camera shoot put the lense on the action. I'm as big a Sierra Hull fan as anyone, but decisions had to be made. As with Garcia, chances were that Phil Lesh was an afterthought when full attention was paid to the lead. And that is how it will always be.
Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions.
@jolysable Thanx. Guess I missed her very brief and only solo, on the first pass. The vast majority of the time the only part of her that was in the frame waas her lovely left hand. Seems that maybe seniority has its privileges. I just recently "discovered" her and everything about her just blows me away. (And I'm 75!) Would so love to meet her.
No complaints from me. This was a great show in a diffucult room. Barton is an old hall with a high ceiling and very boomy so things were turned down a bit. This video was made using a Sony HDR-FX7 with Sennheiser 421 from what could be considered the front row. I'm glad that I went to the show; glad that I made the recording and honored to post the tune.
Best wishes to all from Less Than Face Productions.
Saw Sam Bush last weekend. Too bad he doesn't play bluegrass anymore. He's still searching for something completely different but he ain't found it yet. I wish they would have potted his chops down and turned up Sierra's solo in this recording -- she's an amazing musician -- Bobby and Allison are amazing too. At least Sam still remembers bluegrass lyrics and his voice isn't all that bad.
@HRMuffinStuff Sam is some kind of a morphing hybrid, playing electric guitar (I believe) sometimes....He is awesome on Mandolin, and I remember what "everyone" said at the music workshops of the Gray Fox fest about Sam Bush.....the musicians said Sam bush was the best musical "timepiece" of a mandolin player. They claimed he was a perfect "clock" of mandolin playing. The best timepiece I guess.
This is why I love youtube. My one vacation every year is to Merlefest so I started building a playlist from the upcoming lineup. I am far from an expert or musical historian so finding out more about an artist like Bobby Hicks is a huge reason why I do this. The added bonus is to find him in this video with three of my hero's (Sierra, please, wth? come back!). I am totally shocked but wierdly pleased there are only 765 views. Beautiful!
You're a great man, Sam Bush.

This would've been perfect if Sierra's mike had been turned up about 50% higher. But still a joy watching those fingers fly on the frets.

@lordchauncey It would have been Perfect if the camera only showed Sierra the whole time!! LOL! And i agree the mixing was sub par to say the least!
