  • A beautiful trailer for an epic film. '2001' stands in a class of its own in the so-called 'sci-fi' genre.

Yes, the movie is very difficult to understand, but then so is life..........

  • AVAATTAAARRR

  • Avatar is way better than this shit boring pretentious movie.

  • @themenaceanish avatar was fucking stupid, the actors were amazing, james cameron is amazing, the graphics were amazing, but the movie was WAY overrated, the story was boring.

  • @DaanGFX ROFL! You say James Cameron was amazing, the graphics were amazing, the actors are amazing. So what so crap about Avatar huh? The story really wasn't that important you retarded dumb ass XD It was all about the visual experience of being transported to another world. Avatar was fucking awesome.

  • @themenaceanish i meant James Cameron is amazing, and the actors as INDIVIDUALS! not in the movie. but i now understand your another young kid who all they care about is visuals, nothing else. 2001 in terms of film will always be better, but if your some small child like yourself then avatar would be better, even though the movie itself was horrible, and apparently James Cameron got sued within this month or so for stealing avatar, i haven't looked into it but there you go.

  • @themenaceanish I want ure little butt u will be famous

  • @IamAPedoFILEbro shut up u faggot

  • @themenaceanish GET OFF MY FUCKIN TRAIN!!

  • The teaser trailer for a cinematic documentary film entitled '20-22' can be seen on our channel. It's a Kubrick World!

  • It's amazing that they could make so real effects in 1968.Space odyssey are comparable with todays space movies and i have seen it many times :) Rating from me: 10 out of 10!!

  • i love kubrick, space odyssey, but i have to admit that the trailer is simply.....poor

  • im so sorry but this makes me feel like sleeping :S

  • i only watched the first few minutes of this movie because i felt too little was happening

  • One of the best, if not the only one very best film to ever be released. The trailer is amazing and it shares the most amazing scenes with the audience. It's surprising how "2001: A Space Odyssey" is one of the most popular and recognised motion picture ever, yet it is a pioneer of films with long takes and SYMBOLISM! (Long takes and symbolism are described to be "non popular" features nowadays. LONG TAKES! AND SYMBOLISM! THOSE TWO THINGS MUST BE LOVED AND APPRECIATED BY EVERYONE! THE RIGHT WAY!

  • 0:14 this thing looks exactely the same like the escape pod in star wars a new hope

  • This is not a movie. This is an art film....

  • One more thing. At the end of the movie, an aged Bowman breaks a wineglass. The glass is shattered, but the wine is still there. Correlation between body and spirit. Man's final challenge is death. Once that challenge is met, we will be ready for the next stage in our evolution: A form without a physical body. The Star Child represents that next stage in our evolution.

  • This movie is so profound. Today, man is master of the Earth because of his tools. Take away the tools, what's left? Computers are tools. Regardless of how advanced our computers become, they are nothing more than tools. HAL being the ultimate tool. The tool turns against us. But, the tool didn't count on mans ingenuity or courage, which is why man won.

  • i LOVE this movie so much!! it's one of my all time favorites

  • 2012 is coming. We are going to die!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • The weird thing is, man wasn't on the moon until 1969.

  • @Speedrtr

good thing this takes place in 2001.

  • @Runner4Lif3 no he means kubrick created this depiction before we were even at the moon.

  • 1968 gave us Planet of the Apes, Romero's original Night of the Living Dead, and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

What an incredible year in flim.

  • This was 1968?!?!?! Hmm, I wonder if people in the special effects industry today are pussying back and tricking us all into thinking that they're top notch when they're producing cheap, easy, digital effects. ;D

  • did u get what the trailer means? and also the films? because i don't get it

  • @DRGIZMO29 the movie is about life, evolution, death, and exploration

  • At that time some people asked NASA if they sponsored the movie. It looks so real and advanced for that time.

  • The fact that it's from 1968 is beyond me, the effects are sick!

  • Now THIS is a trailer. You had breathtaking images and nobody telling you what is going on. Today the trailers give you so much info that I can figure out the movie and I have no desire to go watch it.

  • @aruiz90 alot of the old trailers did that too

  • Oddly, say 2010 then saw 2001 on consecutive weekend days - the comparison of the sequel to the original was startling in how more seamless Kubrick incorporated the technological vision, while the sequel looked like it was made in somebodies basement, and that goes for the FX also, maudlin - only makes me more impressed by what Kubrick accomplished, in a film which crafted the special effects that SciFi would rely on for almost two decades-truly one of trhe geatest films ever made

  • HD kicks ass.

  • One of my Favorite Movies of all time!

  • Well, 2001 came and went and we still havent been back to the monn...

  • @NJHpro bush told he would go back, then it didnt hapen, but i heard there is piramids on the moon, they may be already there , but we dont know. this movie was the best of its category and time, a revolucionary movvie.

  • was this trailer made by stanley kubrick?

  • These effects should be brought back, they really did look more realistic than CGI. I wonder how they did them?

  • Stanley Kubrick was the first one to have humans on the moon!

  • @DaltonsMusicVideos

lol, no, there were other movies before that had humans on the moon.

  • I can't believe I've only seen parts of this! I wanna watch all of it!

  • @CaliforniaGirl088 You really should. I've seen it like ten times now

  • this is definitely the best sci-fi movie ever made, and probably my favorite film of all time........... Kubrick was a freakin genius he beats alot of great directors of cinema, almost every single film he has done has become a masterpiece

  • I usually check the Trailers before watching films, alot of people here said this film is amazing.

If they're right, then this Trailer does the film no justice.

  • @haunted6000 mmmm, possibly, but you have to remember that we've got different expectations for film trailers now- they were much more of an enigma at the time, so it's hard to really compare things. 2001 takes a few viewings, though

  • I just talked to some English dude that didn't know who Stanley Kubrick was.

  • WOOOOO!

  • WOOOOOOO!!!!

  • The fact that this didnt win best picture is evidence the academy is a bunch of idiots.

  • Kubrick was genius, no exaggeration whatsoever.

  • SIMPLY THE BEST!!!I

  • If this is what the people in 1968 thought the people in 2001 would be doing, then my God did we sure let them down!

  • @jdmifsud14 We haven't done too badly?? We have an international space station up there OK not so impressive... we've gone to the moon,

If there were to be an alien signal out there we might be reaching out to it more but we've done it all by ourselves... Good question, I asked myself that in 1969- I think I would be blown away by the things we have today if I could have looked ahead....

  • @dunavbalkan no what I mean is we haven't gone past that. we haven't made a space station on the moon yet, (we're planning on it) but it hasn't happened yet. and we haven't gone passed the moon with human astronauts. the moon was the farthest place we've put humans on. Don't get me wrong NASA did a great job with the moon landings and the space stations. but that's not all we can do, we have the potential to do MORE than that! its already 2011 we should already have had a man on mars by now!

  • @jdmifsud14 Yes good points, I agree with you.

  • @jdmifsud14 I think so to.

  • @DOOMRPG I strongly believe that if we had the same kind of president as JFK today. We would be on the mars ASAP! sadly we don't, and it kills me to see that my generation (born 1994) isn't aiming to be what the Americans in the 1960s wanted to do! All my generation cares about is rap, getting girls, fighting for gay rights, and legalization of marijuana. to me that's all small talk bull shit. why doesn't this generation focus on America's future, instead of the future for themselves?

  • @jdmifsud14 some practical difficulties in going there then going to the moon for a couple of hours/days

a trip to mars would be 1-2 years long ....because of the huge distance

  • @sidewaysfcs0718 I know but Where there's a will there's a way isn't there?

  • @DOOMRPG DOOM i want to be an Astrionaut and someday I will be on Mars. My dream and goal is to put colonies on Mars etc. I believe also that beyond our Solar System is AlPha centauri that might hold a moon like Earth > I want to get mankind there. Spaceflight should not be a national one but a human one. Your generation will see that ... Perhaps. Keep in mind that even if NASA might be cut Private Companies like SpaceX are taking over. I think mankind has evolved once again.

  • 2 dislikes? The humanity.. I hope it's because of the muffled sound

  • I must admit I was so disappointed when I found out Kubrick was american! Although he spent most his life in Britain he is truly one of the few original american directors!

  • those ships are miniatures, but they look an infinite times better than any cg ship i've seen.

  • @panqueque445 agree 100%

  • ...oh God...

  • Is this the original trailer shown in 1968?

  • This movie sits on a very short list of crucial viewing.

  • Take THAT, James Cameron.

  • @clicheguevera4 haha yes!

  • @clicheguevera4 "Even to this day 2001 remains the all-time great science fiction film" - James Cameron.

  • @clicheguevera4 Woot!

  • One my favorite movies of all time.

  • better effect than avatar in my opinion and thats 40 years ago

  • A Space Odyssey filmed in 1968 and Kubrick was real time traveller ....bravo.....all time best ,u can noticed that ipad, wesite.com.,atm........video phone (skype)....and more to discover if u watch it over n over again....

  • It is not a film...It is an experience. Especially if one has the good fortune to see it in a theater! I am grateful the I have been able to see it (projected at a theater) five times! On DVD at home it is good, but not as good.

I first saw it when I was about six-years old, one of my earliest memories. It mesmerized me then and it still does. Kubrick was a genius! But it is one of those films, that one either loves or hates. I don't think there is an in between. You get it or don't!

  • I was in grade school when I first saw this movie in the late 1960's. In my personal opinion, 2001 is the best science-fiction movie ever made. After 40 years, the movie and the story involving human evolution still endures.

  • oh no the world is ruled by apes, and then we dont have futuristic guns to fight back? OH MY GOOOOOOD!!!

  • Excelente...!

  • @CYMRUTUBE2 no, there was no CGI in the film, it was made in the mid-sixties, CGI didn't exist at that time

  • Did they invent that music? in that movie? is that why its so memorable? I never seen this movie.

  • @Linkvier the music is from Strauss a classical composer

  • Greatest motion picture of all time!

  • I've always wanted to see this film. Never had the opportunity. Never seen it. WHY? lol x

  • if anyone can help i havent seen this film and i have seen a dosen trailers, what is it actually about??

  • @M8Tty1694 I don't want to spoil its meaning considering it isn't explained in the film so to speak.

In a nutshell, it is a fantastical cinematic epic about the possibilities of human life and the fantastic possibilities and horrors of taking the next step to figuring out what life means and what our place is in it. I am trying to be vague because the film gives you plenty of room for interpretation. Go in with an open mind and you will no doubt come out with an altered perspective. Cheers.

  • @thecolorunknown thanks i am going to see if i can buy this film cheap cos it does look good :)

  • @M8Tty1694 Well, the basics goes like this; A black monolith of unknown origin is discovered on the moon. It sends a signal to a location near Jupiter upon its discovery. The film then cuts to the first manned mission to the planet. While this ship is underway to Jupiter however, the ship AI goes nuts as if it have its own agenda. However, there is much, much more to this movie than just the story. While quite slow as all of Kubrik's works, it is truly a masterpiece of art. Go see it already!

  • 1 person didn't open the pod bay doors.

  • Time Magazine are correct

  • "18 months ago...the first evidence of intelligent life off the Earth was discovered."

    Epic!

  • the specail effects are so good that i cant believe that this was made in 1968..

great job n gr8 story by arthur

    RIP ARTHUR C CLARK

  • "Open the pod bay doors, HAL."

  • WoW!! The special effects are REALLY GOOD for movies in the 1960s!!

  • it ain't seagal

  • happy birthday frank!!!

  • a lot of people find this film boring, even me, but I think that's because what it achieved is on a level higher than my understanding. I don't feel like I'll ever fully understand this movie. That's why it's my #2 favorite film of all time, right next to There Will be Blood.

  • this epic movie on blu ray looks so good, it looks like it was made yesterday.

  • "My God! It's full of spoilers!"

  • the umm.. idk what you called it at 1:15 it made me really sick, i was watching it yesterday lol it's pretty okay.. but i didn't get the point of it at the end. i thought that thoe guys were going to go back in time and yeah wit the umm... black wall in prehistoic time thingy

  • @coolcoolcoolest

you should have read the book first.

  • @coolcoolcoolest "its pretty okay" .......this is why Justin Bieber is famous.....people hate him yet, they say Kubrick was a hack and this movie was boring or just okay..... :( my children are doomed oh and im only 19.

  • @daft9punk This movie was not boring my friend! This was an Adventure

  • @daft9punk simple, dont have children ....u can't corrupt what isnt there xD

  • This is my favorite movie. I can understand why some people don't like it (some scenes linger on for quite a while), but I think it is a brilliant take on the world of the 21st century. It may be slow, but every frame is full of amazing visuals. The Star Gate Sequence at the end of the film, is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing scenes in the history of cinema. And to top it off, computer graphics weren't even around when it was made. All the wireframes are hand-drawn!

    In short, I love it!

  • It's a good movie... but I don't like that part that things like 01:15 continues several minutes...

  • You need epic pictures to justifly epic music. Sometimes movies or especially commercials use too big songs and that is practically rape. Only Kubric can deliver this epic of a song.

  • @sanska what gave me a goosebump mainly because to us (our generation) this movie seemed to have somehow predicted or foreseen the future. it just occured to me that kubrick might be a member of secret society...

  • you are the man, stream on Movie Watcherus really works perfect!!!

  • This is an amazing movie!

I like the Blue Danube Waltze.

  • I was born in the 90's and up to today I think this is the best science fiction film I have ever seen.

  • just saw it on 'retrolove movies' really nice movie and really advanced for its time

  • This just seems much real that the sci-fi films today. The visual efects are awesome, without any digital crap, 3D shit or CG junk. And it is from 1968!!!! OMFG!!!

  • BEST

    MOVIE

    EVER

  • @ALMAisaWONDERLAND AGREED. My favorite film.

  • Good thing I never saw the trailer because.... lol... I wouldn't know what the hell I just saw, thus not want to see the movie.

  • Really? If I saw this trailer, I would be intrigued.

Also, you can tell that this trailer came out after the movie's release from the quote from TIME Magazine at the end. You can find the original trailer on YouTube as well, and it makes the movie seem much more generic.

I think that if this was the original trailer, the movie would have done much better initially (the movie had an extremely rough start, and MGM almost pulled the movie out of theaters).

  • @XaviersSecretary I imagine anyone who saw the trailer during that time period would've at least been mystified and curious. Remember, this movie was from 1968, almost ten years before anything visually impressive like Star Wars even came out.

  • @NemeanLion by the Early 1960s,, thos of us in our late 40s were used to seeing even better space footage of Russian and American astronauts in Earth Orbit, spacewalking, learning to dock spacecraft and space stations and work in space, and going to the moon starting when I was in the second grade in 1968, It was all terribly exciting, andstill is, as when exactly 42 years ago, I watched 2001 on a huge 100-foot wide curved CINERAMA three projector screen in Manhattan in April 10, 1968.

  • @NemeanLion It was 9 years and nearly 2 months between the release of 2001, and STAR WARS. I was there for both, because science and science fiction that mirrors and predicts it is spoken freely and belovedly in our household, since the 1950s.

  • A TIMELESS CLASSIC!

I just curious..was kubrick an atheist?

  • @calciumkid85 I would ask him myself, but he is dead

  • @Hal9000ize haha.. i wished too. he never been an 'open' person, especially when it comes to his personal belief unlike steven soderbergh, woody allen or darren aronofsky who are an "avowed" atheist. Kubrick was always a very private person while he was still alive. he might be a member of secret society, especially because he was accused of being involved in the biggest mock-up project in history : moon apollo landing (which occured a year after 'odyssey' was released)

  • Such a timeless masterwork. Kubrick's grand tour de force. 5 stars

  • Ehh, here's my top 3 Kubrick:

    1. Dr. Strangelove

    2. 2001: A Space oddity

    3. A Clockwork Orange

  • That's a great top three , in anybodies catagory. Just curious , How old of a guy am I talking too here?

  • This film was 30 years ahead as at its creation

  • Is there any other way to say this is art at it's highest form?

  • Oh ! cover picture on video, is a naked guy, not a naked girl. lol

  • Wow, such an old trailer in Hd. Fantastic !!!

  • YOU MUST see this film in Cinerama. That's how it was made to be seen, although the Blu-Ray version is spectacular. I understand Turner Classic Movies will be showing it in Cinerama early next year in Hollywood for their first annual "Classic Film Festival".

  • A great movie. A landmark.

  • I am writing a book about this movie as we speak. :)

  • "2001: A Space Odyssey" - 1968

    "Бриллиантовая рука" - 1969

    :)

  • I LOVE IIIITTTTT

  • such a good movie
