This was after the Rockers had been fired by the WWF for partying too much. They worked Memphis & in the AWA until they asked for long term contracts and Verne Gagne turned them down. Not long after Vince offered them a 2nd chance and they took full advantage.
It takes time to figure out the nature of the NWA not having been the predeccessor-promotion of the WCW but rather an alliance of many small promotions cooperating, with NWA champions travelling through all of the small member promotions defending their title. I only understood thx to the internet, because in Germany nobody ever explained the NWA.
Note: those are NOT the Original Assasins, these guys are a regional version of that masked tag team that were made of enhancement talent. There were teams of them in the AWA, CWA, Georgia (after the original ones left), Florida and Deep South around that time.
Well, technically they were. Michaels and Janetty worked in Central States, which was an NWA territory. In fact, I think that's where the two of them first teamed up, but they hadn't gotten the Midnight Rockers nickname yet.
I think were most people go wrong is they tend to remember the NWA as jim crockett promotions. JCP was just one member, granted probably its largest member but there wher emany more territories
You are right about that. Alot of people get confussed about JCP/WCW being the "entire NWA" because they were the largest member during the mid & late 80s. But thye have to remember that the NWA was and still IS a GLOBAL organization.
True because St. Louis Wrestling Club was an NWA territory and Pacific Northwest was also. The CWA/Memphis area was NWA affiliated before it aligned itself with the AWA.

The Rockers were in Memphis from October 1987 to I believe it was February or March of 1988

They were actually going back and forth between the CWA and the AWA.
