  • I like this live version better than all of their other live versions (Live In NY, etc) but between the out of sync sound and the missing parts, I am a very disappointed fan. How can I get the full version?

  • @MyMytalMajesty Meh, I'm judging by stuff like their cover of A Passage to Bangkok. I could be wrong of course.

  • Its a shame the quality of the video, but the music is awesome, thanks for that.

  • @MyMytalMajesty Yeh, and look which song is the best on the new album... *grins*

  • Such a shame it's out of sync :(

I think this was the best LaBrie ever....

  • Kevin Moore,he was the best!!!!!

  • Gotta love Kevin M0:00re

  • i wish LaBrie still had what he had back then :( He is still great but i dont see him hittin this note anymore... Maybe if he lost some weight and practiced his vocals...hopefully he does. I wanna hear this F# live.

  • @SASPython Every singer's voice goes lower with time. And think that Petrucci and Myung change their strings often, and LaBrie has only one set for the whole life.

  • @jaipipor you're right and that is a good example, but there are ways to reduce the effects of that, i just feel like he hasn't tried yet.

  • @SASPython Actually, not really much he can do anymore except for what he is doing. The food poisoning was the straw that broke the camel's back, and the sixty tons of straw that shattered the camel's spine was going on the Awake Tour directly after the rupture. I think that's the true reason he didn't completely recover.

  • Do you think Morten harket of A-ha lowered his voice too?

Like Labrie here very much, The Another Hand/killing Hand live performance is very great too!!

and on the new album he sings very good too!!

Breaking all Illusions is a killer song!! WOW brings the IAW-feeling back alive :)

  • @SASPython Weight has almost nothing to do with it. He's getting on with age. There's a reason you don't see many older singers doing good things. I guess a lot of people don't remember his post-Awake vocal surgery.

  • @serjjery yeah but he has had quite a few good moments even after that

  • at the least the f# lasted completely without being skipped, :(

  • y is the vid bouncing? this sucks

  • I love that high f#5 its really incredible

  • I find it ironic that the same people who bitch and bash at LaBrie are the same people who are singing Learning To Live, Metropolis, Space-Dye Vest, and A Change Of Seasons. Fuck all you hypocritical, miserable cunts.

  • @MulletMan3108 in the early 90's, LaBrie was at his best, and nowadays, labrie drags the whole level of the band down a bit, Petrucci, Myung and Rudess are still as awesome as they've always been. Kevin Moore was great, he wrote amazing songs with dt, but i think rudess suits the band better. and i happen to like his synth solo wich sound like random noise:P imho, a band is as good as its worst member, in this case thats LaBrie, i think he's still awesome anyway:P aswell as the rest of DT

  • kevin moore is much more of a minimalist in his keyboard parts while jordan is much more technical however when kevin wrote the lyrics they (lyrics) were much better.

  • jp with a ponytail

  • Yeah, I know that's what I'm saying.Derek was there for the writing of "metropolis pt:2" as a demo, you can find a demo of here on youtube.

Yeah Scenes from a memory is great. Yeah Jordan is great. But Kevin is great too and has a different "flavor" of writing and playing that I really like. I won't say he's "better" cause I like both. Kevin, as I have heard from interviews, was a BIG part of writing Images and Words, and Awake which are always on the top of the list of the best DT albums

  • I know Kevin was a big part of melodies for DT and his solos are great. I feel like Jordan's technique actually limits him because he can do a flurry of notes for parts, where as kevin's solos always have a melodic direction and idea. Plus all I know is Kevin helped right Images and Words and Awake, and then when he left we got Falling Into Infinity, a big change whether you like the album or not.

  • @GuillermoSmyser Derek Sherinian was onboard for Falling into Infinity. Then they got Jordan and we got Scenes from a Memory, one of (if not the) best albums they have recorded.

  • I'd love to see this without the sync jumping back and forth

  • Moore was an integral part of the keyboard/guitar harmonies. To me Dream has never sounded the same after Awake. Images is their best album BY FAR!

  • technically, rudess is a monster, i liked moore a lot , but technically, rudess parts are incredibly harder to play, let me tell ya, ALMOST impossible. And stop bashing Labrie, vocal chords is not like a guitar, its very sensitive, and it that vocal style, it can be hurt easily (shows after shows) EVERY BAND HAS GOOD AND BAD NIGHTS, but it the end all of these guys are virtuoso, its only a matter of tastes, end of the line

  • 6:45 Labrie is so ridiculous he doesnt even need a mic for that f sharp....check it out. Im pretty sure he just uses that as a prop.

  • @hamielec vids not in sync he doesnt do it in the vid until 7:19

  • Jordan Rudess is in a league of his own. I don't know where you people get off with comparing him to Moore. I understand some of you may like classic old dt much more than the heavier more technical dt of 2000-present but jordan rudess is an even greater artistic force than john petrucci himself. Its like he has no limitations in technicality, expression and style. There are guitarists who try to do what petrucci does, there are better drummers than portnoy but noone comes close to rudess.

  • F# fucking insane

  • I love Kevin Moore's songwriting contributions to the band. Nothing can beat "Images And Words", i've never heard an album in which every song is amazing and unforgettable

  • the video dose not match the audio

  • Good luck MP :(

  • LaBrie achieved perfection, just like that.

  • Awesome, but this has to be the most out of sync video ever

  • kevin is too great!

  • pony tail john!!!!!

  • I saw these guys back in the early 90's in a club in Fort Wayne Indiana-only about 200 people were there....It was an awesome experience

  • @madembalmer2007 Dude I wish I was 20 years older for just such occasions! Lol.

  • Does it seem like James is singing completely out of sync with the audio??

  • come on, we have to give it to kevin, He wrote some pretty amazing stuff, Dont get me wrong, Jordan is one of the best, but Keving wrote great music!

  • Greatest song in the whole world EVER, in every respect.

  • could someone please explain this to me?

all the recordings that i see that were made in this show, at long island, ny, were part of the bootleg "home sweet home". however, this is not there. why does that happen? besides, it is a great perfomance by labrie, i love the home sweet home bootleg!

  • Are you asking why didn't they include this song in the bootleg audio recording? I don't know. But it could have something to do with the equipment. This is obviously just the camera and has some tearing. So it would be a different machine that made the Home sweet Home bootleg.

  • oh ok :) thx man

  • Te amo Kevin (L

  • john myung is a lyrical genius

he should write more of their song lyrics

  • @mushroomzagain

    Yeah. I agree completely.

  • There are cases where I can feel whether James can sing his tough parts or not. I find it reasonable in some cases because if he sings something in 2007 he can probably still do in 2009. The only song I really think he can't sing perfectly anymore even if he'd practice a lot is Another Day. Too calm music with too high notes, and too quick passages between the notes. He might if he'd practice a lot, and obviously in studio though. I still believe he can do the F# perfectly.

  • keep in mind his voice has never been the same since 94 when he had that bad shrimp and puked so hard he blew out his voice. he wouldve been fine had he rested on not go on tour, like the doctors recommended. i do give him credit for his dedication and he is starting to get back to his old voice. you can tell in his live performances on this Black Clouds tour

  • Dude, I never said that was wrong. I just said he couldn't reach it at, say, 2000-2003, but he can hit the F#5 ever since and before it.

And about Black Clouds, I love the way he sings in the tour, I hate the way he sings in the album. As if somebody told him "don't exaggerate" for some reason when they recorded it.

  • It's hard for him to hit the F#, ever since his vocal incident back in 1994. It's a shame since back in the day he hit the note with no problem at all. I think all DT fans are fortunate in the sense that they have experienced James's voice at its potential and have also heard it grow in the past 18 years.

  • Once again, I'm aware it's because of the vocal rupture. My first comment in this video said I believe he can hit the F#5 today. How is it related? :S

  • By the way, one more thing: James never really sang Another Day that well. Even in '93, there are like 2 versions of the song where you'd see him taking it easily, and one of them is Live at the Marquee (Japanese release), which was overdubbed according to Lifting Shadows. So yeah, I'm not saying anything surprising. That's a really tough song.

  • that was his first song with DT, back in 91. it does sound like he's straining himself on the album and i havent heard the other two versions u speak of. ill have to check em out. but thats interesting. every song, besides Wait For Sleep and Pull Me Under is hard to sing. especially Learning to Live (well half of it is manageable) and Take the Time. they're insane.

  • I Know someone who can sing it better than he can, I will send it to you

    Michele Luppi

  • @constantinosbassman Sorry, Luppi can't sing better. He just hits higher notes in head voice. I like Luppi but Labrie is a much better all around vocalist and artist. I have never heard any other guy belt the notes James did back in the day. For his time, he was really extraordinary and sang higher than commonly done before in a much more raw and powerful way. Simply put, he rocked hard. If your into power metal singers (I am too) forget luppi, check out Daniel Heiman....E above soprano high c!

  • is that JP playing with ponytailed hair and NO picasso graphic design on his ibanez? lol, quite a bootleg

  • low budget time lol now their stage is awesome

  • yeah baby!! that was ProgM

    i miss that DT

  • I agree with you, That DT was young, fresh and incredible, that is still the same, but the old dream theater, had a "dont know what" that made them incredible.

  • fucking awesome..

  • labrie rocks bigtime ^^

  • audio/video not in sync

  • Yes that's his famous F#5. Performed quite phenomenally I must say.

  • Comment removed

  • The note is an F# 4 not 5...5 is the last note for majors sopranos

  • It's the sixth F# occuring on a keyboard :x

  • @Voicecolors

No dude, F# 6 is the last high note for sopranos. F# 5 isn't too high for them. LaBrie's note is definitely an F#5, not an F#4. I can hit an F#4 no problem. I CANNOT hit an F#5

  • dude same. that last final note i cannot hit. its way too hard. but i can reach an F#3 and #4 no problem.

  • Miss you Kevin Moore...

  • Would have been cool to hear another album with Kevin, but then we wouldn't have his awsome solo work. Kind of frustrating, no? :P

  • damn, wtf, how wonderful he hit it without any trouble... to bad he had a vocal rupture :(

  • he can do it now, check the videos from the Ocavarium tour, sounds awesome!

  • sure he does sound awesome, but you can see that he needs to make and effort to hit it, and over here, it was effortless :(

  • i just saw a 2009 version i swear labrie's F3 sounded exactly like this no kidding :d he is so back!

  • That's an F5, there. F3 is mid-range for most men.

  • where?

  • on you tube man i don't remember where.

  • they haven't played it this year...

  • They did I saw a video on you tube.

  • hey have played a small section as part of a medley, but it does not include the F# section, they have not played it in full this year.

  • are you sure cause I remember really well labrie doing an F# at one of the 2009 performances.

  • yes, it has not been done this year, the last time it was played in full was in 2007.

  • hmmm alright...

  • @brakkum

Not this year, but they played it on the Chaos in Motion Tour.

  • They don't seem to play any vocal-intensive songs anymore. :(

  • In London 09, they played Take the Time, Prophets of War

  • Actually, check out the version from "5 Years in a LIVEtime." That was soon after he had the vocal chord trouble, but he actually added in ANOTHER F# into the song.. its freakin amazing. And on their tour last year, he could hit it just as well as he did here. He's getting better every year!

  • That f# made my anus tingle

  • Is this out of sync for anyone else?

  • ya, and it skips at some parts but maybe thats just the recording

  • ok, now lets stop with that bullshit comparing Kevin and Jordan and just focus on that F#!

    ooooooooooooooooooooooAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

    oh yeah!

  • 6:41-6:51 just amazing

  • You guys have no idea of who is Jordan Rudess actually. He's a master of the sounds, and the best keyboardist in the world. Not only because of his technic, but because he has no limitations to express something, he do it with the best sound and the best way. And is much more handsome than Moore. I respect Kevin a lot, but Jordan is the best for Dream Theater.

  • Agreed. He is the master of any form of music. Rudess!

  • youi cant really say any of them are better for DT, because if you really listen to the music, each time they changed keyboardists, the sound of the music went in a totally different different direction. whixch, all the music is good, so I think they're all good. Moore was was a really different keyboardist, derrek was really cool and catchy, but still superb. rudess is really great and technical, and he's a good writer, just like the rest of them

  • @Elenruth Yeah, Jordan Rudess is a musical god and definitely one of the best keyboard players. I still think that Dream Theater wrote their best songs when they had Kevin around though.

  • @Elenruth Omg, I just realized that I put "is much more handsome" than Moore. Where the hell did I get the "handsome" from?

  • @Elenruth I agree with everything except the handsome part. Kevin Moore is a much handsomer than Jordan Rudess. He has gorgeous hair too :)

  • @ai4281 I'm sorry! I'm not english and I did think that "handsome" meant something like funny, happy, and kind, but I just realized that not, hahaha

  • @Elenruth You basically just typed a sentence that was a 1000% truth.

  • @Elenruth Because he classicaly trained.I saw many professional pianists (in Russia) - they even not wonder how Jordan played - it's normal for serious musicians. Also I understand that technique is one part - talent is other, Jordan without a doubt have both! But it's not so "high" as many hobby-rock-musicians may think.

  • @Elenruth I agree, minus the handsomeness and a few unnecessary keyboard solos.

  • @vinthebeast Yeah man, I'm spanish and I didn't know the meaning of handsome; I thought that handsome meant like "funny" and that :P

  • @Elenruth Jordan is the more technically skilled of the two yes. In terms of song writing ability and setting the tone/mood for a song. doubtful. its funny that they were at their best in 1992/3/4 and thats when kevin *coincidently* was with the band. not only that but Jordan sometimes has these synth keyboard solos which sound like random noise. and its not because Im not a good listener because I listen to alot of prog

  • @Elenruth LOL why the hell did you say "and hes better looking" what does that matter? rudess is amazing but rudess suited them melodically.

he's just a machine who cares about keeping up with portnoy and petrucci.

  • @Elenruth *moore couldnt have mixed my sentece up any more?!

  • Greatest song ever made.

  • aaah aaah aaaaah

    aaah aaah aaaAAH

    aaah AAAH AAAAHHHHRRRGGH.... COFF COFF....

    I was trying too :)

    AWESOME LABRIE

  • at 6:41? yeah he`s awesome

  • This song had to grow on me, but it do so REALLY FAST.

  • Guys, let's just agree to disagree. As long as we can all say Jordan and Kevin were both awesome fits for Dream Theater, and that Derek Sherinian was the least proper keyboardist for them, then we'll all be fine and happy!

Really, Rudess and Moore both had awesome moments with the band. I love both for what they brought to the band.

  • I don't agree with that at all ^^ Derek was my favourite because of his sound and style. I like both Kevin and Jordan, but in other ways. They all had something which fitted in Dream Theater and I think that kept Dream Theater interesting; their style keeps changing. Now they have had Rudess for a while I like them least of all the time I've listened to them...

  • Portnoy enters in the compo processus also , and his ideas are not always good ....Labrie has no voice any longer , he's about 50 now ..it's a bit sad but there is nothing to do ...only keep remaining the good moments , lol ...

  • Kevin James LaBrie - born May 5, 1963

  • no way dude Jordan still has great ideas I think many would disagree to what you say!

    Lets enjoy the music cheers.

  • @beusshey Images and Words had better songs, but Octavarium is a better CD. Listen to it starting with Octavarium and then listen to the rest of it. It flows incredibly well.

  • KEVIN MOORE WAS THE BEST KEY FROM DT´s HISTORY!!

  • @Markcello Wrong.

  • @Markcello I have to side with you, the reason Kevin is the best DT Keyboard player is because he left his 100% best with the band despite his coming departure. Jordan is impressive to the enth degree, and innovative, but Kevin was taking them in a direction that would made them so much more infamous than they've become. He brought a different kind of stability to the band before he left. The DREAM was alive in them with Kevin...it almost seems just about making music these days instead of magic

  • I think the biggest loss with kevin was the loss of a great lyricist and Jordan doesn't even right lyrics

  • I'm getting so fucking tired of the Kevin Moore nuthugging. Let's get some things straight....

If you wanna say you like earlier DT, fine, but what's this about them going downhill as soon as Kevin left? Kevin made "Awake" with them and that was not only nothing compared to "I&W" but one of the lesser albums. Albums like "6 Degrees..." own "Awake".

Now DT is commercial? Hahaha! How ironic considering they put out 3 music videos for "I&W" and were on MTV then.

  • How do you see any of DT's newer albums commercial by any stretch of the imagination? Do they have singles on the Billboard? Tons of very un-mainstream bands put out music videos. DT has been doing that since "I&W" -- when Kevin was still in the band.

Actually, DT's newer albums are LESS commercial than "I&W" (well, maybe with exception to some bits on "Octavarium"), which is their most commercial (easy-to-listen-to and catchy) release and the sales prove it, not to mention the 3 videos.

  • So, fine, you miss Kevin's keyboards and his lyrics and you prefer the first 3 DT albums. I get it but quit making it like after Kevin left this band went sour. I just proved you wrong on the commercial thing, and besides that, Jordan is an excellent keyboardist. No one can say how DT would have turned out had Kevin stayed, but one thing I can personally say is I was not impressed with "Awake" and have enjoyed Jordan's work even when compared to Kevin's.

  • I personally am I big fan of the Awake album but I in no way think that the band went down hill after kevin left jordan is a much better keyboardist then kevin and he was in the band when the epic masterpiece scenes from a memory was written so I agree with you for the most part

  • Everyone can have their opinion as to who was the better keyboardist or which DT albums they liked the best; it's just that there are some things that are essentially demonstrably untrue, such as DT being more commercial now and how DT has been shit since Kevin left.

  • I think jordan rudess is technically, superior than moore, now in terms of composition, lyrics and albums, i think kevin moore is incredible,Im a great lover or dream theater early days, since images and words, because i hate collins voice, and i love labrie´s. I think dream theater has pass threw many different styles along years went by, i dont think its "comercial" but yes i think musically it went down in the last album, systematic chaos. I love DT, i prefer moore´s days butjordan is great.

  • Kevin moore rules!

  • I don't get it, are they all on some opiate or depressant? It doesn't make sense...

  • I agree with fireinthepentagram too! He said it really well..for Kevin Moore if he decided to stay , Dream Theater would have exceled VERY much. On the other hand i respect Jordan Rudess, he is talented and he is very technical, a complete musician. But Moore was a part of the soul of Dream Theater...irreplaceable!

  • 6:42 to 6:51 is fucking incredible... LaBrie, singer of the 90's

that is a magical part .......

  • can you upload Take The Time from this amazing show please?

  • I agree with fireinthepentagram =)

DT lost something with Moore´s departure, but Rudess managed to give DT new life... I like them both... I´m sorry for Moore, but I´m glad with Rudess =)

  • Among Jordan with the highest talent and sense of perfection and Derek with his charisma and special elements, MOORE is the one to be my favourite keyboard player of DT for many reasons. The only fact I don´t approve from him, is the worst decision he made in his life: Leaving DT.

  • Kevin Moore was a fundamental part of DT essence and made contributions to the most incredibly perfect-written and composed masterpieces they´ve ever done. When he was gone, a good part of DT was broken, however, when they recorded ACOS with Derek, they gave life to a very brilliant song made in the old days, and when Jordan Rudess showed up, the lost part was rebuilt and evolutioned with Rudess style.

  • I agree..nomore album of DT sounds like that masterpiece of Images....

  • This sounds so damn incredible you actually can't put it into words!

I must even partly agree with many comments on here saying that DT lost a bit of themselves. I can't tell you how much I love DT still today but it's sometimes hard for me to understand their intentions now with all that music video stuff and 'commercial'(used the word with care) thing! It's music and should only stay that way. simply give us awesome music and tour as you're used to do DT!

Progress but be loyal to yourself!!!!!

  • so you're basically saying Images and Words and Awake was a failure?

  • lol, go hear Simple Plan, LaBrie just fit everything they needed...

  • Dream Theater lost their atmosphere with Kevin Moore's departure...

  • Fantastic performance.. OMG LaBrie is really waesome he sings like on the album..Just perfect. I've checked out the other videos from this bootleg and and he's the same

  • - james' voice sounds really clear... very nice and nice F#

    - Petrucci.... RETURN TO IBANEZ PLZ!!!!

    - Kevin Moore is a great keyboard player.... but i think that Rudess fix better in DT

  • shut up kid

  • music man definitely is more clear, more awesome and fits more to petrucci.

  • james labrie's voice was perfect...

  • ah!! its so great to hear james hit those high notes back in the jazzy ass early 90's

  • Being a singer and a longtime DT-fan I must say this is the best LaBrie performance I have ever heard (minus those actually hearing LIVE). That 3rd register sounds even better than on album! And that high F# it sounds... like in some stratosphere. People should listen more these golden era -clips. New DT is fine. But it's nothing like this! It has lost it's true spirit and magic. It's not about MUSIC anymore. A lot of DT-soul died with K. Moore

  • hey man, you gotta fix the video man, its WAY out of sync

  • And John Petrucci goes to the right side of the stage and falls off again.

Bwa Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!

  • Sorry I meant liquidreamrush not weirdjade27. Anyways...just expressing what I meant by positive...uplifting...etc.. Either way...dream Theater is the best band ever!

  • Actually you really need to go back and listen to the lyrics and the feeling of the music more. It is night and day as far as how enlightning they use to be as opposed to now. I love them...don't get me wrong weirdjade27, but they have lost that uplifting spirit. They had a sound like they were having fun as opposed to headbanging and being angry. Even Metropolis is positive, think about it. Love is the dance of eternity. They all had the dark to light theme. Which is very positive.

  • Well put my friend.

  • Yes Learning to Live is about aids. Why is that positive? Because he is saying no matter that he has aids or whatever...to live your life! You can't get much more positive than that. And Voices is about overcoming your demons...sexual or not...that is positive. And yes they have some positive stuff...but it sounds dark or sad. Back then just listen to the energy...it sounds fun...it sounds promising.

  • I love this song! One of my faves! I miss the positive Dream Theater of those days. Songs like Surrounded, Learning To Live, Lifting Shadows Off A Dream, The Silent Man, Voices etc...

  • Learning to Live is about the Aids epidemic, Voices is about lust over a young girl mixed with schitzophrenia. I'm not sure what you mean by positive. But Dream Theater has always been metal and progressive. I mean even on Awake there was Lie, and Pull me Under and Metropolis aren't "positive", and I won't even touch the Killing Hand. Although I know exactly what you are referring to when you say positive.

  • DT still shows glimpses of more progressive stuff, listen to the Ministry of Lost souls, and Repentence off the new album. Also I walk beside you is very positive. As is Vacant.
