@BieberFace Yes, this day was pretty scary! Near my house, the clouds were so low and dark and the winds so strong, I thought a tornado might be just over the horizon!
@allkorobko123 No doubt this was an insane storm and I remember it like the July 18th, '09 storm happened yesterday! The lightning was some of the most frequent I've ever seen and I'm lucky my neighbour's tree snapped and crashed onto the street away from my car!
The cops were probably responding to calls of injured people or car crashes caused by severe storms. There's no tornado/storm siren system in Edmonton. Those are found in the heart of tornado alley, especially in Texas and Oklahoma. In Alberta, there has been a public warning system ever since the Edmonton Tornado on July 31, 1987 to warn the public about tornadoes, fires, floods and even amber alerts for missing children.
@Davemeister22 There are some sirenbs in edmonton about 5 theres one off of 97 street and yellowhead trail next to the rail yard its an sd 10 and there are other sd 10s throughout the city but i'm not sure where they are. Fort saskatchewan has 7 alertronic sirens but this year they are replacing them with new louder mechanical sirens so there will be only 3 sites after the upgrade. this system has been in place scince 1988.
September 19th is pretty late in the season for us to have a major thunderstorm in Alberta, Canada. We have small storms on rare occasions from September-Nov some years in Edmonton, Canada, but nothing like our storms from June-Aug!!
Rylo42069, I also think that there will be some intense storms around Edmonton this year. If it stays really dry, we could have a similar summer to last with a few, infrequent storms but with tons of lightning and wind mainly and possibly twisters. If this rain we're starting to get amounts to much, it could create larger, more hail and rainy thunderstorms, rather than dry lightning and wind storms like last year.
that is awesome! you know,I used to love storms, until I moved into a trailer park. It's like being trapped in a can while 20 guys are firing machine guns at the place from every direction!
Well, this is some of the best footage I have seen on youtube.
Thanks! This is some of the best thunderstorm footage I have gotten, indeed! It must be terrifying living in a trailer park during thunderstorms! You know what happened in Edmonton in '87 and Pine Lake in 2000?! Terrifying F4 and F3 twisters respectively.
I love the adrenaline rush of watching these powerful storms as well and feeling the full force of it all, NitroCaya! I can't confirm seeing a funnel cloud out here in west Edmonton, but did it at least come close to touching the ground or just dissipate really quickly at Capital Ex? Anyway, what an awesome, powerful, gorgeous storm!!
i remeber the k days storm it was like a sand storm i love the Adrenalin rush when i hear funnel clouds and severe thunder storms i bring out my camera too and i did see a funnel cloud at k days but it didnt touch down which sucked
It definitely was a crazy storm, 25Stellar! What exactly do you remember about the K-Days storm or Black Friday? I wish I was born only 10 months earlier! I'm 23 but was only 1 1/2 years old at the time of Black Friday. My first memory was the following spring when there was a massive tent caterpillar plague in May '88. If only I was born 10 months earlier, I would have remembered the Edmonton tornado of '07!
That was a crazy storm. Im 24 and the only other intense storm I remember was a few years back when Cap X was still called Klondike days. But No trees fell over. And of course black friday. But I dont remember much of that :) AWESOME vid. Thanks for catching it.
Thanks very much, ShellyRoxz123! It was one NASTY and severe storm. This was some of the only rain we have had here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in a long time as we are under a drought status. This storm brought intense lightning and high winds for the most part!
That's incredible that this storm line traveled so far, woofiny! I didn't even know that the same storm system struck the Vancouver area. Usually in the Vancouver region, thunderstorms are uncommon due to the moderating effects of the Pacific. Where near Vancouver did you see the storm? Did you hear that it struck central Saskatchewan as well?
I shot this in the west end as well. It was taken near 149 St. and the Whitemud. It was intense enough here, my neighbour's trees were snapped in half right in front of me! How intense was the storm in your area, Voldsomhed?
With the second storm, as the sky turned reddish black and the clouds lowered, I thought that there could be a tornado! Fortunately, it doesn't look like one touched down, there were just strong lateral straight line wind gusts of over 100 km/h as you said, dogisms13. However, those winds packed the punch of an F0 tornado and snapped my neighbour's trees in half right before my eyes!
The weatherman on Global Edmonton said that there was various funnel clouds in the Edmonton area but that the storm was not likely to have a tornado touch down. He said that it was just straight winds and people were just panicking b/c of the winds. Until I watched the news at 11 I thought that a tornado was going to touch down.
No, there wasn't a tornado, but there were some people who claim to have spotted funnel clouds!! I didn't see a distinct funnel, but I saw some cloud formations which started rotating, lowering, darkening and getting dangerously close to developing a funnel!
That's crazy and intense!! What a terrible time for the storm to strike in the middle of Capital Ex, but at least it was sunny and warm earlier in the day! I can't confirm seeing a FUNNEL CLOUD myself, but I saw strong areas of rotating, lowering, dark clouds and and as I said, my neighbours trees were knocked down by strong straight line wind gusts. No twisters though, thank God!!
I don't know about a touchdown, but the storm was dangerously close to dropping a tornado!! The clouds were lowering, circular and an eerie reddish black!
The wind gusts inside this storm were so strong (in excess of 100 km/h or 60 mph, the strength of an F0 tornado) that my neighbour's trees were ripped in half across the street right in front of me. The aftermath of the snapped trees and extremely intense lightning are included in this video of very dangerous weather.
I was at Capital Ex when this happened.... One day i will not forget.. That shit was SCARY

@mesedrew also if you want search on google type fort sask outdoor sirens it will come up.

Everytime we had a sevre storm, the cop sirens would go off downtown. I think it was to warn people of a bad storm

Cags1998 1 year ago
No, a tornado didn't actually touch down, but strong lateral wind gusts reached speeds of an F1 tornado and knocked down many trees in the area.
Davemeister22 1 year ago
Did a tornado actually touch down? its even scarier at night at least in the day you can see what is going on

Well I was at the ex when this happened and there was a funnel cloud and I almost got hit by a flying metal bench and tree branches.
Everyone was in panic mode. Trains were shutdown and we had to take buses to the certain train stations and still had to walk from there.
