@DipiFX: it is fuckin mind boggling, no sugar coating, no blowing it out of proportion. if you have not already taken massive steps beyond the competition and determined on your own how dreadfully inaccurate the available box programs are, you should just accept it now. it won't hurt nearly as bad as learning it 15yrs from now.
@DipiFX: Pete's system incorporates all of the advanced branches of physics that are necessary to calculate every aspect of what it takes to generate the target response.
@DipiFX: if you have not started research on your own, let me help you right now by saying you do not really wish to know. i have been at this for almost 2 decades and gladly gave up everything I "learned" on my own and from mentors along the way, some VERY WELL respected for their knowledge (who were all sooooo wrong.)
neither one is a better design than the other until a goal is defined. even then, there is a huge likelihood that neither of those are the best for the intended use, sub of choice and power range.
And that goes to show that your designs are worth the money you charge. You put a lot of thought and time into the designs you come up with. Most people might not know what your talking about but the results speak for themselves.
Hey, is there some way I can learn how to do all of this? I desire earnestly to know the knowledge behind the proper design of a box.... Car audio is not just a hobby for me, it is a passion and an obsession, I have dreamed of learning knowledge like this since I was 5, im now 17 and still dont know how. I am looking into the Mobile Dynamics Online course but I do not believe they teach the things you know how to do. Is there any possible way I could learn how to do this?? Sincerely - DippiFX
I love it. The cabin pressure animations are (other than the colors) exactly what I had in my head what happens with different port , speaker, box positions within a car. As my current sealed box as seen atleast 10 different positions in my car. Along with what window(if any) needs to go down for certain frequencies to feel like they can breathe / get loud. RANTING. Anyways. It would be nice if I could just drop off my car, wooferm stack of money and let you do your magic... ha!
@TylerTron21 Originally, I had the phase represented with red and blue, but that damn near gave me a headache. I just wanted everyone to actually see how much more there is at play inside a vehicle (or any listening environment, for that matter) than simply tuning and volume. Hopefully this might also shine some light onto why simple response graphs generated by programs like WinISD, BassBox Pro, or HornResp never seem to match an RTA sweep.
note guys: the views you see with green and red swirling around the vehicle cabins.....that is a slice of the horizontal axis. it shows nothing about how thick that slice is or how many slices there are. its like giving a sniper a 2d picture to set up a 2mile shot from. there is so much more info in his system used to design that its funny to think that one layer means nearly nothing by itself.
How to you model of the interior of a vehicle. Do you have a database of common vehicles. Do you use a golden ratio equation to figure out the acoustics of a vehicle? How do you account for co efficiency? Sorry for all the questions I am just curious. I'm not asking you to give away the candy store here.
Ive had a design of a box of u and ive made it and trust me pwk designs nows his stuff. I had 2 jl audio 12w6 in a box and after a design by pwk i only had one jl audio and it was louder and cleaner then two and also thanks pete
@shohab6674 You're welcome. Though keep in mind that not everyone is as skilled a woodworker as you are, (or whomever you had build your box if you didn't do it yourself.) Occasionally, someone might still half-ass a build and try to blame me for it. If anyone is interested, go to my forum and read a thread entitled Damn frustrating!" posted by SynergyCory, one of my dealers.
@mrchrisk36 I'm simply trying to get everyone on the right sheet of music. You win your business by offering a better product, not by bashing the competition. Talking others down does nothing for your engineering skills. I'm convinced that if my critics spent even half the time in R&D as they spend worrying about what I'm doing, maybe they wouldn't have to talk shit about my work just to make theirs look less bad by comparison.
so you mean there is not some magical average of cabin geometry that these "at a glance" box designers use, they actually don't know what they are talking about, thanks for clearing that up
@audiogamer No magic, just math and science. You change the conditions, you change the outcome. And if you don't compensate for the change in conditions while solving for the outcome, your answer is going to be wrong.
a enclosure for a sub cant be estimated just by lookign at te sub or soemthgin like everyone dose it involves alot fo math top get it right im not good at designign boxes but i know enough to know that its not a easy thing to do if your not a expert
@BassPounderX At least you know enough to realize that you're not an expert. At times, I feel the same way, and the more I learn one day, the more I realize I didn't know the day prior.
@HexiBase I just dont understand why people make assumptions on designs they have no prof will work yes it may sound half decient but there is better way better in some cases but keep putting out the videos and stuff i enjoy watching them you are one of the youtubers i actually watch that im subbed to
i know there is a lot of variables, but is it possible to give me an approximate, even ball park, percentage difference in perceived volume between a sealed box and a ported and properly tuned box? I Currently have sealed boxes because of dimension restrictions, i was just wondering how much i really am missing.
@troybv6 Well... What counts as properly tuned? If you're talking about using a bass-reflex enclosure to mimic the response of a sealed enclosure with higher efficiency, that's certainly one way to interpret your scenario, however, as I've mentioned in the video, I'd rather not guess (since short of modeling everything, that's just what it is - guessing.)
@goatskindreams Yes, I've mentioned that. "...even position of the enclosure, itself, relative to the boundaries of the cabin..." about 28 seconds into the video.
amen bro iv seen so many think one enclosure type is perfect for every car and that the magical port tuning is 35hz and that they will react the same in every cabin when its not that simple and others dont know what desired effect they even want there enclosure to produce sayin loud does not define anythin anyway great vid man
I know just enough about you and what you do to know that you don't bullshit and that you know exactly what you're talking about. I trusted you, I told a very good friend that he would be an idiot if he went anywhere else for his enclosure, and you proved me 100% correct. I will never use a prebuilt box again, I will never bother with guessing at my own, I will never doubt the blueprints that I will always come to you for. Those who would knock you have obviously never experienced your work.
@tonythephatone Never experienced, asked for the wrong thing, built incorrectly... There is still a lot that can go wrong on the client end, but if you do everything right, as you obviously have, you'll be 100% satisfied, as you obviously are.
haven't even started the video, it is on pause, and already am suspecting a mind-F*** will be in store for me. You're one of the few that I can watch the same video over and over and still get enjoyment out of them. Well done sir. Great learning experience is always in your vids.

@MasterOfAllBass Well... As I've said in another response, if people spent more time worrying about their own engineering skills than about what I'm doing with mine, maybe they would be proficient enough not to have to slam me just to look better by comparison.
@monosurge They say seeing is believing, but the funny thing is that every one of us sits right inside of a model like the ones I showed in the video. You'd figure a light bulb would go off over some peoples' heads.
