I was SOooo disappointed when "Bruford" played The Tower in Philly and Holdsworth was NOT with the band, but John Clark played Guitar in his stead. I spent the whole night watching Jeff Berlin play Bass -- though i am a drummer, and you'd expect me, therefore, to have a keen interest in whatever Bill was doing. However, Allan was the Guitarist with (Bill Bruford's) "UK" @ Penn's Landing... so at least I can say "yes, i DID see him play live, back in the day". Zappa had high regard for him too!

@1m2a3t4t5 It is an expression that people in the music business use sometimes. All the best (most famous) songs are usually not written past the first three frets. Most every chord the typical song would need can be played on or around the third fret.
Point being that true talent sometimes doesn't get the air play it deserves, like Holdsworth.
@skudzer1985 when has life ever been like that? it's always how you look that is why we have eyes. ok wait lol that's not why we have eyes but it does matter that is why we have jimi :) because he is the eyes and ears. i heard a myth that said guitarists bending notes meant they ran out of ideas, do you get that? when you bend a note you're bending an emotion pushing into ideas everyone knows how that feels :)
Allan is VH's hero! There was one time he didn't realize that U.K. (w/ Bruford, Wetton and Eddie Jobson) would open up for them sometime in the 80's. VH was totally floored because his Hero would open up for them!\m/ AWESOME Allan Holdsworth!
@fretbored1974 This passage is from The incredible marquis by Herbert Gorman entitled the soldier of fortune(chapter six) It was natural that Dumas believed implicitly in the magic of somnambulism, in animal magnetism and in chiromancy. No Haitian dancing before his Voodoo altar was more superstitious than Dumas. Home, to Dumas, therefore, was an authentically inspired adept in communicating with unseen world.
@fretbored1974 Between 1555 and 1931 the Jesuit Order was expelled from at least 83 countries, city states and cities, for engaging in political intrigue and subversion plots against the welfare of the state, according to the records of a Jesuit priest of repute(Thomas J. Campbell).-J.E.C. Shepard

@fretbored1974 "The public is practically unaware of the over wheming responsibility carried by the Vatican and its Jesuits in the starting of the two world wars-m a situation which may be explained in part by the gigantic finances at the disposition of vatican and its jesuits."---Edmond paris, The secret history of the Jesuits
This is friggin' intense! Holdsworth had to have popped out of the womb with a guitar in his hand. He is my favorite guitar player of all time! I have loved his music since the first time I heard him in the early 80s.
He was already a monster of unreal abilities, as well as having a totally unique voice-not nearly as advanced and refined as now, but phenomenal nonetheless. Since he took up guitar at the age of 18, the speed of his progress is amazing-he looks pretty young here.
