  • Just read the book. OMG

He...he just knew...how did he? wow. The Father of science fiction.

  • I just watched preview of the 2010 FIRST MEN IN THE MOON, and I was UNIMPRESSED. The "effects" were very poor in the new movie. The OLDER version is still THE BEST. The effects although not perfect in the old movie, they are much more believable than the video game like junk the new movie delivers. *****

  • Love the opening shot to this movie... it reminds me of The Clangers episode when they had a run in with the Iron Chicken!

  • Is this supposed to be the technical benchmark at the time for 2001 to beat?

  • If anyone is in the UK. On Tuesday. A remake of this is on BBC FOUR at 9:00. If this massage says Added one week ago or over then you've missed it.

  • @kezadrone Saw the bbc remake, might have been closer to the book, but I felt it was awful, mark gatis as cavor just didn't work and the bbc budget was too low...

  • I dont know if this is the movie I saw as a kid, but I remember just before they depart the spacecraft to walk on the moon, one guy says to the other guy "dang, I forgot my moon money"....I laughed out loud...is that scene in this movie?

  • Good to see this again. One of my favourite films as a child.

  • Laurie Johnson was the composer of the music who also composed the Avengers theme and the music for Dr. Strangelove. Of course the effects are from the great Ray Harryhausen - I love the stop-motion effects for the selenites!

  • The flag is a bit small.

  • @Thorfan64 You're a bit small! That, and its a friggin movie.

  • Thanks for this great post, a favourite film of mine.

  • wow, i remember watching this in the theater at age six simply mesmerized at the storyline. it wasn't until much later that i discovered what a depraved fabian socialist mind this sprang from. bummer

  • @ultrakool good lord. that's my only reaction to your posting on a man who lived in an era from which such ideas were revolutionary, before the time when socialism became twisted..and who wrote many fine books. Good lord.

  • Entire surface area of the Moon is 3.793 × 107 km2 , and the UN expedition just happens to land within walking distance of where Cavor and the others landed. You just gotta love it! Great film!

  • @Setebos I think it was more than luck! They landed in almost the same place because it was the BEST place to land!

  • Does anyone have a copy of this movie where the picture is not distorted?

  • Scarey that I can remember seeing this film at the Atlantic Theater in Chicago but I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday !!! Thanks for the video.

  • It is amusing to hear the jet sound of the rocket motor though the moon world is a vacuum.

It doesn't leak to this and even STAR-WARS is so.

Though it ends if it is said the sound effect.

  • @amp3cx10000a7jp Correct your grammer, you dont make sence

  • @ryker6richard sense not sence check your spelling!

  • Thank you for posting this film but can you do anything about the hissing sound?

  • just pretend it's 1964 lol

  • Funny how one of the astronauts w/ an American flag emblem on his suit has a Brit accent! lol

  • @Syrinx77 and the "Russian" is speaking Czech. Lol..

  • R.I.P. Mr. Jeffries, you were a genius.

  • I will always remember Lionel Jefferies from this movie. When I read the original book I could imagine him as Cavor-and when i read The Time Machine that same year I imagined him as the Time Traveler.

  • I saw this at the Ambassador Theater on Columbia Rd in Wash DC in 1964 ...great film then and now..it does make me nostalgic for the innocence and wonder of that era....America was such a different place..Victorian England was celebrated and looked at fondly..Mary Poppins of the same year as well as My Fair Lady celebrated the English culture of the turn of the century. Where will be in 100 years?? I am glad I wont be here to find out =))

  • I've just finished watching the 10 parts over the week, and it's was worth it.

This movie is the perfect companion piece to "The Time Machine".

  • they ruined this film buy putting a love interest in it the woman who play kate the book doesnt have a woman in it typical of films in those days but still very good film

  • A brilliant adaption of the book. Lionel Jeffries is a complete legend in this film.

  • Why does the movie have UNREGISTERED HYPER CAM2 in the top left hand corner. On one hand people do something friendly as posting a movie on youtube and then spoil it with bullshit like that. I will never understand some people!

  • @iLuvAkeys4ever BEcause the person who uploaded this used Hypercam to record his screen whilst he watched the DVD of this film. And because he doesn't have a license for the software, it puts a water mark on every video he makes :)

  • IN the moon?

  • Yes, first they land on the moon, and then they enter into itl Like journey to the centre of the earth. Didn't you watch the movie!

  • U know, the technology that guided apollo 11 to the moon was no greater than that of a basic mobile phone, or modern digital watch! scary, don't you think...

  • I saw this in the cinema way back when I was a kid.... amazing. It all seemed huge back then and so colourful.

    Great stuff !!!

  • that film is one of my fave's..I've got it on vid...the chick in it is hot

  • Wells and Verne could really tell the future

  • Unashamedly 'camp' in it's tone (I mean, diving suits on the moon!) yet sincere in entertainment. What's happened to innocent films of this sort ? Always wanted to meet Edward Judd.......

  • yeh, i know what you mean, but it was written in 1899, dont think much else was around really... shame nowadays, films can't just be a story, always violence and sex

  • 'England is the land of eccentrics' Hahaha

  • music is really researched it so powerful

  • Thanks for the movie ive been looking for it sice i read the book.

  • First rate film on many levels. Chec k out HG book if possible. Film captures some of its sadness at end.

  • Thanks for posting this. For it's time it was very well done.

  • @beachnikk For its time is vastly underrating. This movie fits well into my Star Wars recent updates editions. Harryhausen is immortal!
