You can't beat the use of real sets and models, I think CG has its place and is even essential in certain areas but it's far to easy to overuse, ask George Lucas!. I think the original was more convincing however you've done a good job here mate.
@Anthropidia Thanks for your comment. I agree completely, however the challenge here is to try to get CGI looking as good as it can. That's the fun part. Personally I would prefer using real miniatures, but since I can't obtain the kind of model used in the original movies, it's handy to be able to get it at least close using just a PC.
@Anthropidia i personally prefer it when they mix the two techniques together, real models "tweaked" with CG to do stuff they wouldn't normally be able to do using real models. Best example of that is the millenium falcon asteroid chase sequences in empire strikes back, it was impressive what they managed before was absolutely amazing in the re-done sequences using as much of the old film as possible
@calumknight1984 I agree, That's my thinking exactly mate. If the balance between models and CG is found, the outcome can be truly spectacular and very convincing. It's best to focus on the strengths of each. I have employ a similar philosophy in my paintings. Acrylics and oils. Most of my paintings have a mixture of both media.
@Anthropidia i think lord of the rings shows the effect mixing the two can have, gollum in particular is the best example. Using a REAL actor to act the scenes out and then the CG modellers superimposing gollum into the scene whilst face animators kept andy sirkis's facial expressions. The result was a believable CG character and probably the most convincing to date for me, just wish the same was done in all movies
Great! The figures inside the shuttle begin to distort around :038. Perhaps you could introduce a glare on the front window or something. Either way, take a bow.
Very well done, personally Im partial to the miniatures they used back then but doing it your self on a computer with out big studio money it was very well done.
Just curious as to why they didn't use transporters.
Funny, because GR invented transporters to speed up the pace of the show...
Nice job on the footage chaps.

Very well done!! As much as I really like ST-TWOK, it was disappointing that scenes from ST-TMP were reused. This gives it a "Fresh" look.
