They are long sold out. The first batch sold out before they hit the shelves, the second batch lasted about 3 weeks. You would think they would realize they have a winner and run them again. Walthers is slowly increasing thier N scale releases. Hopefully these get rerun soon. Best thing to do is contact Walthers and remind them that N scale exists and you would like to buy some.
I think DCC sound in N scale will keep getting better. To date, I have not come across anything in diesel sound for n scale that I like. The steam engines do sound pretty nice for it's size, although. I just hope technology keeps getting better and better for n scale.
The technology will indeed continue to improve. Unfortunately, it's the speaker size and placement limitations for this scale that must be overcome. Suggestions are welcome.

Nice! I have a steam locomotive. The Athearn FEF-2 with DCC/ Sound which is quite similar to this. I have the same whitsle too!
