  • What advantages is there in using Jazzmasters in stead of a Stratocaster?

  • @blue9z - the tone is a little deeper and the body shape is really far out. The stock pickups in a Jazzmaster sound really cool as well. That's about it.

  • wow..........excellent

  • Love it. Nice!

  • Aloha from Hawaii! Surf's Up!...Tiki Taboo surf band

  • love that sound!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love it

  • SURFER PEOPLE! LIKE BEACH BOYS SURFERS! Nice.

  • Wayy cool man =D

  • Really nice playing guys. Your guitar work just really meshed together. And sweet taste in guitars too!

  • Excellent. Very vintage. Love you guys. SURFS UP!!!

  • I love the Japan Jazzmasters I have one Candy Apple Red (Thinking about getting another one) I modified mine now it has a third (Middle) pickup and three on/off switches (one for each pickup) and a thin switch. Best guitar I've ever played!

  • ive been to kilauea its beautiful there

  • what cable is that the white one???

  • @Hazimmm182 The white cable is a Fender Koil Cord. Nice cable! Not expensive but good sound.

    Twang cheers!

  • @Hazimmm182

it should be noted that all coiled chords will roll your highs off and up the mids. so it will modify the sound of your guitar. they where primarily used for funk because of this. so be warned of the metal and alternative defeating coil chords if that's your thing.

  • sweet

  • amazing playing, amazing guitar collection, just great!

  • I like green color best----I once had a Fender Jaguar from around 1965--and a Musicmasrter from 1967---both really good guitars--wish I'd kept the Jag

  • How much were these beautiful and awesome sounding guitars?

  • @kleinebudde Man bekommt sie manchmal zwischen sagen wir mal 400 und 650 Euro.

  • @HallmarkSweptWinger Was heißt denn manchmal?

  • Nice guitars and nice playing.

  • you guys gotta kick those tanks!

  • i prefer the guitar that's lying on the ground

  • Great sound and a great tune!

  • This is great surf guitar. Love your lead guitar and love the rhythm guitar part on the Fender Jaguar. Do you have any Albums out on Amazon?

  • The song you guys play, have you made the song or is there another artist that have made, if an other artist/band have made it, whats the name of the song and the band?(The song was AWESOME) If you guys have made it have you recorded it?

  • Hello, this song is called "Black sand beach". It`s not our own song unfortunately! Check out youtube for Black Sand Beach! It`s from Yuzo Kayama, a japanese guitar legend. This song is from 1964. We just played the half track.

There is another recording from The Ventures from the 70`s. They titled it different.

I just used this video for selling the red Jazzmaster and demonstrate the sound.

    Twang cheers!

  • you guys rocks!

  • where did you get them with matching head stocks? i want one really bad

  • nice ;)

  • I got to find some tabs to learn this one.

  • i love this jam! makes me wanna get a jazzmaster.

  • goddammit how do you get your guitar to sound like that ! i can't find out :p

  • there usibg fender guitars amps and and fender reverb tanks

  • Nice. However, sounds like you are closer to Dire Straits than Dick Dale.

  • Comment removed

  • How do you play that intro? it sounds so cool...

  • amazing jam! this sounds so cool

  • hy, how do you get your tremelo arm like that?

i've got the same guitar, but my tremelo hangs down all the time... it gets loosser and looser

  • It's opposite threaded. Spin it the other way. It should tighten up.

  • trere is no thread... on both the arm and in the guitar

  • Have you thought about replacing the entire trem system?

  • It`s a bit of work to fix the arm.

Inside the tremolo system is a case where the arm stays. At the end of the case there are 4 little brackets. Squeeze them a bit together with a plier when the arm is not inside. BUT be careful! If you break one of them, the system is nearly dead...

And I use additionally a tiny piece of good tape around the end of the trem arm.

With this the arm stays for weeks or months in position.

BUT better replace the trem system for an old one! They got better springs!

  • before you screw in the arm, drop a small spring in the hole, that will help keep the tremelo in place.....

  • what kind of spring??

(sorry for late reaction, i diddn't try to fix the tremelo yet)

  • There are no springs in this tremolo, it's the Fender Floating Tremolo.

  • There is one spring inside. And THIS one spring is very important!

feel free to get a screwdriver and get your Jag or Jazz and take a look inside.

    Twang!!!!

  • hey what cable is the red shirted guy using? thanks. It was cool, the whole thing I mean.!

  • Fender coil-cable, I think its like 20 bucks

  • In this video I play a white VOX cable. Unfortunately I don`t remember where I bought it... In Hollywood or in Bellingham during our US tour in `06.

Meanwhile I use also those new white Fender Koilkords. They are cheap, good and reliable.

    Twang cheers to everybody!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • REVERB!!!!! What reverb are you using? I love reverb.

  • You can clearly see the Fender 63 reverb unit on the left.

  • Yeah! You are right! It`s a Fender Reverb unit. A `63 reissue. With cream white tolex. It`s a US made one.

  • I don't know how, but I think you guys somehow just got me interested in surf music :P

  • Since recently, I've decided to get a Squier Classic Vibe '50s Strat.

  • which pick do use for surf music?

  • Hi, I use Landström Design Sharkfins in medium. You can get it at "Thomann".

The picks are not the really important thing in playing surfmusic for my opinion! It`s more important to have a loud clean sound with a good reverb. And: The strings!!! Use thick strings for surfmusic!!! On Jazzmasters I usually play 13-56 gauge D`Addario Chromes. Flatwounds.

    Twang cheers to everybody!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Hi, meanwhile I use hard picks. About 0,73mm. Now I get a louder and clearer tone!

  • Very hip. I'm contemplating getting an American '62 Reissue Jazzmaster and getting rid of my Gretsch Duo Jet. I get along with Fender necks a lot better. Any thoughts?

  • that was fucking sick

  • It's people like you who keep the Surf alive, rock on!

  • Thanks a lot!

    Yes, this is our intention!

    Twang cheers from Germany!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • The capacitance is different and the subtle tone doesn't come out because the shield of the brass plate is wiring the chestnut of the body in the side of the negative about being made in Japan, not being.

The being good if not being in the minute canister of me is done however.

...because I am the problem of the ear of the individual

  • Is that the Venture's "Showdown at Newport"? It seems to just be a B-side but I love it!

  • Hi, it`s the song "Black sand beach" from Yuzo Kayama from 1964. A japanese instrumental surf classic. In this video we played only the first part of the song. In an other video from me you can hear the complete song if you`re interested. It`s the video with the Yamaha SGV800 guitar.

    Twang cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Thanks Ralf! It doesn't surprise me too much that "Showdown at Newport" was actually a cover, but I couldn't find anything about it... Hell, they even changed the title. Thanks a lot!

  • way to go. surf music with Hawaii shirt!

  • you guys are having Fun!

  • do dick dales miserlou cover please!

  • You guys are so great but I'm sure you already know that. Surf music rules and fine guitars!

  • Hey,

If Nobodys Using That One In The Back.

    Y'know.

    Gimmie A Shout.

    xD

  • Haha, thats pretty cool guys, I love Jaguars and Jazzmasters.

  • Do u know if there is a way I could paint the headstock on a Jazzmaster, since they dont make em like that anymore?

  • If you`ll do it on your own for low costs you can try to get your wanted color in a spray from a building center for example. Make a test on an other piece of wood.

Or ask a professional painter for this job. I don`t know cots of such work...

And: You need the Fender Jazzmaster decal! That`s maybe a problem... Check out eBay worldwide for this! Sometimes you`ll find it there!

    All the best!

    Twang cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • What reverb did you usw

  • Fender Reverb unit.

    Sometimes it`s called "Reverb tank".

It`s the ultimate reverb effect! Expensive but worth the money!

    Twang cheers!

  • The '63 Reissue one?

  • Hello, yes, you`re right! It`s a `63 reissue. In blonde tolex with oxblood grill. From the 90`s I think. I bought it at eBay from the USA. I live in Germany. I built in a 230 volts transformer. It sounds fantastic! If you got a Fender Reverb Unit you can change the original 6V6 tube for a 6K6 tube! This will give you a warmer and richer sound!

    Twang cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • I'LL TRY THIS.

  • that was freakin awesome great job and nice guitars

  • What brand, gauge and type strings are you using?

  • For Surf it`s important to play thick strings.

Matze on the green Jaguar uses D`Addario Chromes 12-52 flatwounds. Those are good for Jaguars.

On this Jazzmaster in this video are cheap "Darco" 11-49 roundwounds. Normally I use D`Addario Chromes 13-56 flatwounds on Jazzmaster.

On other guitars (Mosrite, Hallmark) I use 11-50 ghs Boomers.

Those cheap "Darco" strings are great for my opinion!

  • man I am brazilian, and I don´t know how speak english very well but I work on it.

I have a fender squier and I was thought if If I sell my squier and buy a Stratocaster, buy a jazzmaster, or buy a jaguar?

this question are disturbe me if you want help me

    give me your opinion

you are really incredbles and your gitars are fantastics.

    thank you

  • it depends on what kind of music you wish to play, - overall, the stratocaster is the most versatile. Though in my opinion Jaguars are simply cooler.

  • Man, I`m from Germany. I think our english will work for this correspondence.

A Stratocaster is pretty boring for me. Jaguars & Jazzmasters are much sexier guitars!

Squier: I got a Squier Jagmaster and a Squier Supersonic, both pimped with Jazzmaster AVI pickups. Get those "Vista Series" Squiers from `96 or `97. Those are great guitars!

And, yes, it depends on what music you like to play! Do you want to play some kind of surf?

    Twang greetings to Brazilia!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Do you think any Squier Jazzmaster crafted with alder and modded w/ great pickups would be anywhere near the '62 reissue for surf?

  • A "Squier Jazzmaster"? Do you mean the Squier Jagmasters probably? The old Squier Jagmasters from `97 are pretty great guitars! Look out for this "Vista Series" on the headstock, They used better materials than in todays` Fender Jazzmasters and Jaguars crafted in Japan. I got an old Squier Jagmaster pimped up with Fender Jazzmaster AVRI Pickups. It`s an awesome sounding guitar! With much more sustain than todays` Fenders.

Those cheap China made guitars are not worth 10 dollars unfortunately!!!

  • Yeah I meant Jagmasters, but I'd have to get a modern one, I can't find any old ones.

  • Sorry mate, can't agree with you...the Chinese produce, for the money, some great stuff. I've got a Chinese strat I paid next to nothing for and it's not bad at all. The Chinese Jagmaster is a completely different beast to a Jazzmaster but pretty good all the same. I'm old enough to remember how BAD cheap guitars used to be compared to these days.

    Surfs up!

  • Fender jazzmaster or fender jaguar

    what do you prefer?

  • I got 5 Jazzmasters and one Jaguar these days. So I prefer the Jazzmaster. I love both guitars!

But the Jazzmaster is the more grown up instrument. And a bit more versatile. I like this mellow vibe in the Jazzmaster!

    Reverbed cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • man this sound is incredble!!

  • I love you guys!!!

    Come back to the states.

  • The Kilaueas love you too Tikitena!

We hope that we can play the states again someday!

    Miss you all!

    Twang greetings!!!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • What gear are you using?

  • The Jazzmaster into a Fender Reverb. From the Reverb into a blonde `63 Fender Showman Amp.

The Jaguar into a Fender Reverb. From the Reverb into a black `65 Fender Showman.

    Nothing else! That`s the sound!

    Twang! Brothers and sisters!

    Reverbed cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • That was awesome. cant get more surf than a jaguar doing rhytm and a jazzmaster on the lead.

  • cool loved it

  • Can you explain maybe the difference in tone between the Jaguar and Jazzmaster? I am thinking of buying one but I want the most versatile one. I'm thinking maybe the Jazzmaster because it has bigger pickups?

  • the physical size of a pickup will generally have no impact on what it sounds like. The Jazzmaster has P90s, the Jaguar has single coils, and the jag also has a shorter scale. Single coils have more treble output and generally 'sparkle' more than humbuckers (dual coils), which are fatter and warmer and work better than sc's with overdrive effects. single coils tend to hum, dual coils don't because there are two coils in one pickup, wound opposite to each other. go try both model fenders out.

  • Jazzmasters DON'T have P90's, they're wide single coils.

  • Hi, you want to know the main difference in tone? This is a very individual question. I love both guitars.

The Jazzmaster a bit more. The JM has got a more mellow tone. The Jaguar sounds a bit "harder" with a bit more treble. A good Jaguar has got more "bite" than a JM.

The JM is a bit more "grown up" in the complete players feeling! A little bit more serious for me.

Both guitars are great for surfmusic! ...and different music styles for sure!

    Twang greetings from Germany!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Hi, Thank You, I am thinking of maybe getting a Jazzmaster. I like everything you and others have said about it. I also think I like the look a bit better also. I like the bigger pickups too.

  • If you`re interested: My red Jazzmaster from this vid is for sale. It`s out on ebay Germany these days. End of the auction is june, the 6th.

    Twang greetings!

    Ralf

  • I actually never really liked the red Jazzmaster until I saw this video. It just looks great in the sun light especially. I will check out your ebay. I also have my eye on the beautiful sunburst on the floor of the video. That is my original favorite color for this guitar.

  • oh my god

    that tone

    oaft baby

  • Is the Surf Green Jaguar a made in Japan or US made? If US, is it vintage or is it a reissue? I love that color on that guitar and makes me want to buy one! Thanks.

  • The surf green Jaguar with matching head is a japanese new one. It`s a "Crafted In Japan". About 2 or 3 years old. It`s equipped with great sounding American Vintage Pickups (those reissues as used in those expensive AVRI`s.).

Here in Germany those Jags and Pickups can be found on ebay sometimes... In the last months I`ve noticed 2 or 3 of them for sale.

    Twanged cheers!

    Regards

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Thanks for the info. One more thing. Your Crafted in Japan came with the AVRI pickups or you mean you had them installed after you bought it? Did you buy it off of German Ebay or did you get it new from Japan? Also can you do another video of you or your friend just playing the Jaguar? Love that guitar. Danke!

  • The green CIJ Jaguar was bought here in Germany from ebay. The AVRI Pickups are also from ebay and were installed instead of the original poor sounding japanese stock pickups.

I think next week we can arrange a little video with the nice green Jaguar.

    Reverbed cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Hallmark thanks for the info. Yeah my AV62 MIA Jazzmaster sounded good but it didn't sound like vintage JMs I've tried before so I bought some Novak JM pickups and it went from sounding good to great. From sounding like a modern JM to that of a vintage JM. I guess the CIJ pickups, Jag or JM are pretty bad so getting replacements whether AV or Novaks help a lot. Thanks in advance for the video you will post of the Jag next week. Love Green Jags and love the Jag sound with flatwounds.

  • By the way, flatwound or roundwounds on those guitars?

  • On the green Jaguar are flatwounds: DÀddario Chromes 12-52.

On the red Jazzmaster are roundwounds 11-52.

On my other Jazzmasters I use 13-56 flatwounds (also DÀddario Chromes) for a more surfy sound. There are no problems with thick strings on a Jazzmaster! For instrumental surf sound this is first choice.

    Twang cheers from Germany!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Gutten tag Hallmark, danke for the info! I really like the sound of both those guitars. You and your friend are great players. I have an AV62 Jazzmaster with Pyramid Golds flatwounds in I think 12s. I one day will get a Jaguar. I think Pyramids are made in Deutschland. They are $25 in the US but worth every penny. I'm undecided if I should leave the flatwounds or put rounds on them. Rounds for The Cure and other rock stuff because the flats don't work well for rock but I love surf!

  • You guys are good. I have a 2003 AV62 Jazzmaster in Olympic White. Had a Jaguar once but never got along with it much so I guess I'll have to try another one because I love the tone.

  • nice!

  • Great JM tone boys!

  • NICE!!

I have an AVRI Fender Jaguar, how do you get your trem arm to stay put??

  • The AVRI`s are great! No problem with the fixing of the trem arm: Compress the 4 piece bushing inside the tremolo unit a bit. But be careful, don`t break up those little pieces! I additionaly use always a little piece of tape for the ending of the trem arm. With this little tape the arm stays in the position where you like it to stay. This works for a few weeks. If the tape wents away, just put a new little tape around the trem arm ending. Not perfect, but a solution. Twang greetings! Ralf

  • Nice tone!!!
