ive actually seen tango in Argentina and i must say this was impressive of Lauren considering she says she hasn't danced ballroom before. there were a little bit of problems with some of the moves in terms of smoothness, and she is a bit young to display the sexuality needed for this dance (it originated in brothels) but she did very well.
I feel bad...because I was more excited to hear Astor Piazzola on sytycd than actually seeing the dancers.,..they still did a fantastic job though...just, fucking...god, Piazzola is a beast.
Although the tango is not just dance that way, I feel it is very beautiful to the eye, and the music of Astor Piazzolla's genius gives an emotional and nostalgic touch. Greetings from Argentina, the land of Tango.

No wonder Lauren was so inspired and captured the soul of tango here. L'Fro blessed to work with Pasha and M&L and I bet she knows.
Main flaw w/ Lauren's Tango: too brief; wanted it to last much longer.
This is undoubtedly hot but did any of you diehard SYTYCD fans notice the mistake on the lift? I squirmed when i saw this but luckily the judges didnt seem to mind as all of 'em gave a standing O at the the end...
@cosmictragedy1 Well it wasn't perfect at all, and the whole Argentine Tango technique wasn't that perfect, BUT, compared to a girl who never danced Argentine or Ballroom in her life, this was outstanding.
And it is not just about the technique, it is about the performance!
This whole show is about performance. The judges judge by the technique when its really disturbing them, and its also always relative to the individual. The bottom line anyway is the performance.
@dcgsmix Yes! I agree completely, with both of you actually but mostly I think your answer was exactly correct about the basis of the show. Technic is important but the judges value performance factors most because those are the factors most of the audience can see/appreciate. If dancers "get" into the character of the dance, judges will forgive tech errors unless glaringly wrong, outof sync, missed steps.The lift error was disguised from untrained eyes... judges know that.. It's all good!
@Phoenix554819 NO actually this missed lift and the near slip when her leg was wrapped around his butt, is the performance event not the encore. I have double checked both vid's and I am certain about this. At finale encore, both these elements were done correctly though the body tensions and control factor throughout were less intense and P missed waist high lift (I think P& L were simply exhausted for all her encores). Trust me on this or go run both evenings on Foxdotcom Best wishes :)
@katydid41 Guys you shouldn't argue about this, as I took this off the Finale. I have all the episodes recorded, and this is 100% from the Finale.
Also you should think about the fact that all those dances that they were required to do on the Finale, were pretty much spontaneous, they had less than a week to prepare also 4 brand new routines for the Finale competition, AND rehearse the old routines, and a LOT of those, for the results show.
@dcgsmix Yes, Lauren danced 5 pieces on finals night and 2 on finale, plus the rehearsals as you point out. Remember how tired she was after her finals nite solo and Cat mentioned "you're knockered". All 3 kids worked really hard but Lauren's amazing energy source served her so that she was able to perform with the best energy to the end.
I am not arguing with anyone really, just trying to clarify specifices and keep all of us on the same page. Sorry if I came across as argumentative.
Don't see a mistake but even if there was, they learn these dances in days, sometimes having to learn three dances or more in a week....so if they make mistakes, so what? The dancing is superb, and even the best dancers stumble now and then. Why do people have to try to find the weak points in everything...why can't you just sit back and enjoy?

For another great SYTYCD Miriam and Leonardo Arg Tango find the one of Janette and Branden (sic re mis-spelling) season 5.
I adore Lauren and think she's overall the best winner ever on SYTYCD vav solid in all forms BUT this tango from Janette (salsa dancer) and Brandon (contemp) is simply perfect. And again the music is authentic Arg Tango music. I don't think L&M will dance or choreograph to anything less. :) Tremendous integrity vav their rehearsed tango art form.

If you have time look up the choreographers' work as dancers on Youtube: Search "Miriam and Leonardo, Tango" and you will SEE how/why Lauren learned Tango so well and took it to such a high level with Pasha. Check out M&L's SuperStars of Dance 2009 items and actually any other bits too.
No wonder Lauren was so inspired and captured the soul of tango here. L'Fro blessed to work with Pasha and M&L and I bet she knows.
Main flaw w/ Lauren's Tango: too brief; wanted it to last much longer.

This is undoubtedly hot but did any of you diehard SYTYCD fans notice the mistake on the lift? I squirmed when i saw this but luckily the judges didnt seem to mind as all of 'em gave a standing O at the the end...

@cosmictragedy1 Well it wasn't perfect at all, and the whole Argentine Tango technique wasn't that perfect, BUT, compared to a girl who never danced Argentine or Ballroom in her life, this was outstanding.
And it is not just about the technique, it is about the performance!
This whole show is about performance. The judges judge by the technique when its really disturbing them, and its also always relative to the individual. The bottom line anyway is the performance.

@dcgsmix Yes! I agree completely, with both of you actually but mostly I think your answer was exactly correct about the basis of the show. Technic is important but the judges value performance factors most because those are the factors most of the audience can see/appreciate. If dancers "get" into the character of the dance, judges will forgive tech errors unless glaringly wrong, outof sync, missed steps.The lift error was disguised from untrained eyes... judges know that.. It's all good!

@Phoenix554819 NO actually this missed lift and the near slip when her leg was wrapped around his butt, is the performance event not the encore. I have double checked both vid's and I am certain about this. At finale encore, both these elements were done correctly though the body tensions and control factor throughout were less intense and P missed waist high lift (I think P& L were simply exhausted for all her encores). Trust me on this or go run both evenings on Foxdotcom Best wishes :)

@katydid41 Guys you shouldn't argue about this, as I took this off the Finale. I have all the episodes recorded, and this is 100% from the Finale.
Also you should think about the fact that all those dances that they were required to do on the Finale, were pretty much spontaneous, they had less than a week to prepare also 4 brand new routines for the Finale competition, AND rehearse the old routines, and a LOT of those, for the results show.
So considering the pressure on them...

@dcgsmix Yes, Lauren danced 5 pieces on finals night and 2 on finale, plus the rehearsals as you point out. Remember how tired she was after her finals nite solo and Cat mentioned "you're knockered". All 3 kids worked really hard but Lauren's amazing energy source served her so that she was able to perform with the best energy to the end.
I am not arguing with anyone really, just trying to clarify specifices and keep all of us on the same page. Sorry if I came across as argumentative.

Don't see a mistake but even if there was, they learn these dances in days, sometimes having to learn three dances or more in a week....so if they make mistakes, so what? The dancing is superb, and even the best dancers stumble now and then. Why do people have to try to find the weak points in everything...why can't you just sit back and enjoy?
