  • 0:57 Awesome!

  • @ggspin12 Are you kidding that sounds Awesome!

  • try that with road superliners, makes backing up a heck of alot easier, hell, they could run the southwest chief clean to chicago backwards, and instead of thinking of how to turn around trains at termini, just have a cab car in each set. cab cars, when you want a badass backup camera

  • Sounds like he's just quilling it. Holding the button down halfway or so

  • Wow!! Nice videotaping!!! You should consider a profession with that or computers. Seriously, trains are hard to film that perfectly.

  • I love it when K5LA horns make that sound.

  • @surfliner460 Right. That would be awesome.

  • You Foamers are weird people.

  • @MrGarrett223 Indeed they are! I liked your comment, funny stuff!

  • @MrGarrett223 What's so bad about it?

  • Someone's being a little creative with the horn.

  • the only way an amtrak horn han makeit sound lif that when pushing te horn button push it half way down then t make it louder push it all he way down lik at 0:56 the engineerpushet i walf way down the at 0:58 the engineer slams the button down

  • the only part i like about this vid is when the amtrak is departing love that horn by the way great shot!

  • Very nice video.

  • reminds me of older horns from the 50s and 60s

  • Killer shot at 1:38!

  • Яeally cool video! I saw something similar with 6905 yesterday.

  • engineers on my metra line do that all the time. Unfortunatly I never have my video camera with me when they put on a show with that.

  • 1:07 1:14

  • i've seen 6907 do that before

  • i wish you can do that with the horn on MSTS

  • Shockingly, I know someone that is making a file you can put in your engine and add to your .sms file that will quill the horn automatically!

  • do tell!

    and good video btw.

  • @trainkid16 is it released ?

  • @surfliner460 On railworks train rimilator 3 i can do that with the amtraks and the surfliners

  • Woah! that was odd! 5/5.

  • I think that is the best train horn I've ever heard.

  • Sweet I have noticed that the locos in your videos are rather loud most the time compared to most I watch are they on an uphill grade there. I got to drive a BN coal train when I was like 9 years old it was incredible the engineer let me release the brakes and move the train about 15-20 feet forward.

  • i got to go in the cab car of Amtrak's 6951! IT WAS SO FRICKIN AWESOME!

  • That locomotive might have the old horn lever instead of the button, producing the smooth sound.

  • No, all the Surfliner CabCars have buttons for the horn.

  • ver interesting way of using the horn nice catch there! why did the horn sound so wierd in some spots like at 1:20-1:21? nicely done Video Grant!

  • amount of pressure being applied to the button controls the air pressure to the horn, thus pressing down hard on the button then instantly releasing only halfway will produce that effect.

  • thNK YOU FOR TELLING ME THAT! thats really interesting!

  • Crossing gates gave a hell of a warning

  • I LOVE IT, IT SOUNDS SOOOO COOL

  • Quilling is nothing new to railroading. During the steam era most EVERY engineer had a unique whistle "signature" that he blew and anyone who know their signature would know who was running. Quilling became a lost art after the diesels came about and therefore you don't hear it much anymore except on those steam locomotives still runnin'.

    Dan

  • On the Surfline down here a lot of people quill the horns, I had a friend from the bay area come for a visit and he noticed it because apparently up in his area quilling pretty much as you described... a lost art, but it seems to thrive here more then other places.

  • We only have 5 cabcars with modulation, whereas your whole fleet does. ;-)

Yep, not many take advantage of the modulation anymore, I've given up on it too.

  • Eric at his finest

  • I've never really herd that sound on an Amtrak before.

  • ya, its quilling the horn

  • Who said i was telling you ;plus did i say u dont kno ?

do me a favor and read my post before making assumptions

i cant stand ppl assuming whats others say...

  • fine, just i dont like it when people tell me stuff i already know

  • those sophisticated cab cars and locomotives are equipped with horns that are operated by a push of a button

older locomotives like the F40 or GP40 has them short lever thingy the driver holds down for the horn to sound like that

  • dude my crew and i know all about these horns, i dont need you to teach me about something i already know

  • @ggspin12 look he probaly didnt know you already knew this so i would calm down

  • thats nto an odd horn osund

its how the driver holds onto the horn lever

the horn uses air to produce such sound

the driver must've put the horn around halfway to have the horn sound light and then at louder level

  • its a button, controls air pressure, and it controls the pitch

  • Are Those Preasure Sensative?

  • ya, they use air pressure

  • o Thx :D

  • So Thats How He Can Make Those Cool Tones?

  • it sound cool but odd

  • I hear if you have a automatic valve and use it that way you lose much of your PSI. Nice video but the way!

  • Thanks, did not know that

  • Wow this guy sure loves the horn!!!

  • yes, yes he does

  • Sounded like Mr.Quivel master! :-D Erik right?

  • yes its erik

  • They Better not put him in 464 :O

  • What the engineer did was litely touch the horn button and then pressed all the way down to make the blast. I personally, love it when they do that. I think that it has a awesome sound, but thats just me. NICE VIDEO!

  • thanks, its nice, but at first there it sounded unbelievably high pitched

  • yea i agree
