part two...forget about shermans love of slavery (he still owned slaves at the time). no mention of black confederates, and their non-slave contributions to the south.
@DixieOfDeKalbCounty Sherman did not love slavery, he provided land for over 40, 000 freed slaves which only revoked a year later by President Andrew Johnson. While he did not believe in Black Equality, he did not "love" slavery and came to dissapprove of it.
As for the Black confederates, while they did exist very few of them actually ever fought in the war. Please learn history before making such broad sweeping generalisations.
@FNGLHR Sir, or Ma'am...dont really care, but do you think the govt would let a book be published that out right says the things i speak of? They still refuse to aknowledge the exsistance of black fighting men in the south, they are listed in pention records as cooks, and body servants. Which as a member of our military would royaly piss me off if my combat action were to be discredited for any reason.
@DixieOfDeKalbCounty If they refuse to acknowledge it why are such facts spoken about so readily?
Did you ever consider that the reason they're listed like that is because the SOUTH did not want to acknowledge they were being hypocritical in what they were saying while what they were doing in some cases was opposite? That the state organized militias that enlisted some of these blacks were in fact not official policy of the CSA? You're very quick to blame the North aren't you?
@FNGLHR Also im very seriously considering becomming a history professor. My historical accuracy is not lacking in any way. The truth is not mainstream but it doesnt make it any less true.
@DixieOfDeKalbCounty Then I fear for the minds forced to listen to your rhetoric sir. Sherman was not a slave holder or had any love for slavery at this time. You ignore his own pro-black actions in favour of painting him in a negative light as many Southern Apologists do. The fact you exacerbate the frequency or cpacity many Blacks played in the CSA military also goes to show where your facts are wrong. When compared to the Northern Segregated Coloured units, very few confederate blacks fought.
@FNGLHR They were going to recruit a huge slave army in 65 but the war ended before they could gather them. Some Slaves were willing to fight as a matter of fact as the Union was invading their home, but most probably didn't want to.
@TheDirtysouthfan Actually no, the idea was brought up in Confederate congress and laughed off the floor by pretty much everyone there. And even then, the slave army was just that a slave army. There was no guarantee that they would've been freed. Many Confederate even recognized that if they went through with the plan they would've looked like hypocrites because it was the foundation of the Confederacy that they be allowed to keep slaves.

@DixieOfDeKalbCounty That's right, and WW2 documentaries aren't going to tell you how nice Hitler was to his dog either.
