@richard2590w in the description and in the video i have a blurb of text that says "my speedo doesn't work". i had just finished that engine build and the connector for the speedo out of the transmission was busted. a new one was on order. so i had no speedo for about a week lol
I have a stock svt focus and i want boost but i dont plan on building the motor anytime soon so would about 10psi and 280fwhp be safe for a daily on stock internals? ive heard it is from multiple sources id just like to check. i knew someone with another stock svt focus and all he did was supporting mods and turbo and he hit 288.7hp at the wheels and they decided to crank the boost way up and he hit about 350hp but it only lasted in all reality a few seconds and his motor blew
@army35m the tunin shop that "cranked the boost way up" shouldn't be in business. the svt focus stock is 10.2:1 compression, which is way too much for a reliable boosted setup. every stock svt engine boosted more then 7 psi has blown up. i've done it, and seen it happen to my friends. there was the occasional svt that lasted a year or so with high boost, but that's rare. i would not run more then 7 psi (depending on your turbo) at around 250 flywheel hp
@aliencurv it wasnt the tune shop that did it. it was all him he knew the guy at the tune shop and he had tuning experience so on a weekend that they werent doing much they let my friend play with his car on the dyno. personally if it were me even if i knew someone i wouldnt let them play with my dyno even if i knew them. how much power will the 7psi get to the wheels? ive heard that anything under 10psi on the svt engine is weak and not worth it.
@army35m it's almost impossible to discuss PSI without a few other parameters. PSI is a measurement of pressure, not airflow. Different size turbo's flow differently, as well as the piping and intercooler and even the exhaust matters. 7 psi on a good turbo will provide a lot of power. Also don't forget you can throw a lot more ignition timing at a cool IAT 7 psi with 93+ octane fuel. The hardest part is fighting against the 10.2:1 compression ratio on that engine.
@aliencurv i just want a sleeper daily driver and i only wanted around 7psi but like i said somone told me it wouldnt be worth it but you seem to know a little more so tell me what would you recommend for a daily driver, preferably something that wont shorten the engine life. im knowledgable with almost anything involving a NPI and PI 4.6L from a mustang but the focus world and small engine stuff is new to me so i know it will be much different compared to running only 7psi in the mustang
well 1st off a 4banger with that much ho is practically imposable cuz it cant handle it stock so pretty much it dont have 360 hp the most it can handle would be 280 or so and that would be pushing the motor to its limits
@mikeweed28 Back in the day of internal combustions engines that you are used to, the process of obtaining air for the air fuel mixture was during the intake downstroke. The action of "suction". And displacement and airflow contributes entirely to the potential horsepower. So yes, a "4 banger's" displacement wouldn't allow for so much horsepower. However, now we use Forced Induction and in this case it's a turbo. Read about it and come back to me.

@mikeweed28 oh i see what your problem is. you're comparing my car to your friends. understandable. i have a rebuilt motor with 9.4:1 compression. the stock compression ratio is 10.2:1 which is WAY too high for forced induction. a stock motor from an svt won't last @ 300 for very long. kick ass video. svt, i wish, but im happy with my zx3! 500 bucks i scored it for! but i got many plans for it. Did u happen to have a different flywheel? lighter one? one thing i hate about the focus is the large flywheel cauzing slow rpm. but better mpg.

I kno my foci pretty well, I believe you listed the turbo wrong. SHould be a gt35r, as the 25 would not make that kinda power on the SVT motor, regardless of what you do to it lol. 360 from 13 on a 35r is still a stretch but maybe.
@zetectool sorry, i don't know why you wrote this without properly educating yourself. the GT25R comes in many flavours, providing 20 HP increments between models. The 25r line provides the most options of all garret turbo sizes. The highest GT25R is the 450 model, which it's compressor map can sustain 450 Horsepower of potential energy at it's maximum effeciency. Please do some further searches, and if my build doesn't convince you because I'm not a "business"... - read next msg due to char cnt
@aliencurv Fisrt off I like the car, Im glad to see another Focus enthusiast. I have built my own turbo focus, and I have worked on countless others. I know my turbo sizes also. Its about efficiency a 25r will not make 360 on a focus motor at 13 psi. The Zetec motor is very inefficient. I work on a fully built SVT that makes 300 at 14 psi from a gt28rs. A compressor map gives you an Idea not a factual number. Also, the XIOS kit is no longer made, and was a very inefficient kit.
@zetectool If my build doesn't convince you of the power advertised, then look into a few kits produced by companies that sell it; One specifically is the XIOS Motorsports.

@aliencurv Well considering I have a dyno video of my car making 230whp (1yr ago ya it makes more now) and it weighs 1800lbs if you do some MATH...SO 230whp at 1800lbs comes out to 0.127 pwr to weight. IF you do the math for a 3000lbs focus at 360whp it comes out to about .12 soo I guess I'm fairly accurate on my calculations but thats just using the dyno video I have for proof of 230whp. On my 60 trim I'm at about 350whp now so thats a 0.202 almost double the pwr to weight this focus has kthnx
@aliencurv First off I'm a mechanical engineer and some simple math will solve this issue. My car 230whp (1yr ago that I recorded the dyno vid) it has close to 350whp now on my 60 trim. However 230whp at 1800lbs is .127 pwr to weight. The focus at 3000lbs and 360whp is .12 so I was accurate with my comment. Now with 350whp at 1800lbs my pwr to weight comes out to .202 which is almost double your pwr to weight. So I would say my car is twice as fast as yours and my brain apparently can do math..
@mccaf2250 it doesn't take much of a mechanical engineer to divide 1800 by 350. the discussion wasn't regarding who was faster, because in that case i would just race you in my 427 all-wheel-hp audi s4 that has 10 fold the luxury and speed of your little focus. blah blah, anyway... the real question is, did you man up and research the turbo that i'm running?

I just read your setup and with a gt-25 (the same as a t-25) there is no chance you would dyno 360whp with that compressor housing considering it can't flow that much. However if you had a gt35 that would be something different. I'm sorry I even commented on this because your numbers are obviously made up unless your turbo is a typo. I had a gt25r and it made 230whp at 18psi it just wont flow 360whp especially at 13psi

@aliencurv Like I said...I had that turbo and I maxed out the flow on it. Garret gt25r is the turbo you have correct? I had one less than 6 months ago and I upgraded for good reason. Congrats on having a ball bearing turbo you now spool 300rpms sooner amazing. Please show me your dyno sheet with 360whp then I will believe you because I'm very good at reading turbo flow charts according to psi and 13psi wont make 360 but obviously your better at reading the .70a/r off the turbo description

svt has a different bumpers than the st170 and has different seats the transmission is made for more power gearing is way to long. Great build ! what is the name of the song please.
@02ellwoj - The difference between the SVT and the ST170 is that the svt is the US model and the st170 is the United Kingdom model. They are the same car, just branded under a different name on either side of the 'pond'.
in all honesty, i would suggest you save your money and buy a faster car :) .. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautlful well handling vehicle. It has real nice styling and great features for the money. It's not sluggish against cars of its era. However, without a full forced induction (turbo) build, bolt on performance peices won't give you the results your looking for.
Enjoy the car for what it is. You will really love it. Even stock exhaust growls nicely. Enjoy it :)
I couln't agree with you more. Im from a die-hard Ford family. I'm on my 12th Mustang, SVT Focus has got nothing for power. My mom drives an SVT Focus. Even this ST170 is obsolete, right now I'm driving a blown 01 Rousch stage III putting over 550hp to the wheels. Get yourself an 03 Cobra. Ford didn't do that great of a job in producing power of these Focus's.
I made some great power, but it took a lot of work. I do the work myself with my friends performance shop. I couldn't have afforded to pay someone to do it for me. Also remember, this video is almost 4 years old. I drive an Audi S4 now.

@Danfive0 well the only reason the foci was underpowered is because when it came out, ford did not want it to be faster than the v6 mustang. which is true on the drag strip, but on the track the mustang will have to be catching up

The car is incredibly fast and if you understand basic engine/forced induction principals, then you can recognize that.

those headlights are not stock i dont like them either wat i did to my svt was add eyelids to me it give it a meaner look nice ass ride though love the color just like my baby.......
the battery is in the trunk. zero gauge wire is ran from the hatch to a terminal strip in the engine bay for the positive line. the negative is grounded to the frame at the battery.
what type of clutch are you running, my stock is about to take a shit. (75,000 miles) I cant beleive that the stock has lasted this long, but it did. Just wondering?
That is by far the only focus i would own, the speedometer is just probably just the speed sensors (there should be 2 of them) a output and input. they dont really mater though its not like they are stopping the car from operating or anything.
because the traction control in some of the svt foci can't be disabled, and pulling a fuse forces it off, but also eliminates abs and destroys the braking bias....
i have a custom tune in the ecu using diablo. i have access to the software so i treat the ecu as a standalone. i tweak it nearly everyday. the t/c is disabled in the ecu with the tune. i don't have to pull a fuse.
you bet. with lowered compression from a cometic engine hat. the compression now is about 9.6:1 from 10.5.
the boost was raised a little over the past few years and the engine is still going strong. it goes on a 4,800 km trip across country every year when i visit family.
this video was posted over 2 years ago you know? the car wasn't done when the video was made. lots of changes have been done since the video. i've lowered the compression, raised the boost, changed the speakers, head unit, subs, restored the back seat, etc, etc, etc

the svt focuswasnt really a speed racer in the beggining it is mostly a handling car. mine has 185 horses due to my predator tuning.

@aliencurv Well considering I have a dyno video of my car making 230whp (1yr ago ya it makes more now) and it weighs 1800lbs if you do some MATH...SO 230whp at 1800lbs comes out to 0.127 pwr to weight. IF you do the math for a 3000lbs focus at 360whp it comes out to about .12 soo I guess I'm fairly accurate on my calculations but thats just using the dyno video I have for proof of 230whp. On my 60 trim I'm at about 350whp now so thats a 0.202 almost double the pwr to weight this focus has kthnx

@aliencurv First off I'm a mechanical engineer and some simple math will solve this issue. My car 230whp (1yr ago that I recorded the dyno vid) it has close to 350whp now on my 60 trim. However 230whp at 1800lbs is .127 pwr to weight. The focus at 3000lbs and 360whp is .12 so I was accurate with my comment. Now with 350whp at 1800lbs my pwr to weight comes out to .202 which is almost double your pwr to weight. So I would say my car is twice as fast as yours and my brain apparently can do math..

@mccaf2250 it doesn't take much of a mechanical engineer to divide 1800 by 350. the discussion wasn't regarding who was faster, because in that case i would just race you in my 427 all-wheel-hp audi s4 that has 10 fold the luxury and speed of your little focus. blah blah, anyway... the real question is, did you man up and research the turbo that i'm running?
ps, i'm okay with anyone being faster; i'm happy with what i've built.

@aliencurv Not really I just get bored and like to laugh at people. I just read your setup and with a gt-25 (the same as a t-25) there is no chance you would dyno 360whp with that compressor housing considering it can't flow that much. However if you had a gt35 that would be something different. I'm sorry I even commented on this because your numbers are obviously made up unless your turbo is a typo. I had a gt25r and it made 230whp at 18psi it just wont flow 360whp especially at 13psi

RE: IGNORANT IDIOT, Please research the GT25R series turbos and reply again. I look forward to hearing from you. HINT, the GT25R-400 means 400 energy potential horse power, a GT25R-450 means 450 energy potential horse power, ETC. It's not the same compressor housing, it's a .70 A/R. Did you even watch the video? My turbo's bigger then yours :D and ball bearing HA!

@aliencurv Like I said...I had that turbo and I maxed out the flow on it. Garret gt25r is the turbo you have correct? I had one less than 6 months ago and I upgraded for good reason. Congrats on having a ball bearing turbo you now spool 300rpms sooner amazing. Please show me your dyno sheet with 360whp then I will believe you because I'm very good at reading turbo flow charts according to psi and 13psi wont make 360 but obviously your better at reading the .70a/r off the turbo description

@02ellwoj - The difference between the SVT and the ST170 is that the svt is the US model and the st170 is the United Kingdom model. They are the same car, just branded under a different name on either side of the 'pond'.

in all honesty, i would suggest you save your money and buy a faster car :) .. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautlful well handling vehicle. It has real nice styling and great features for the money. It's not sluggish against cars of its era. However, without a full forced induction (turbo) build, bolt on performance peices won't give you the results your looking for.
Enjoy the car for what it is. You will really love it. Even stock exhaust growls nicely. Enjoy it :)

I couln't agree with you more. Im from a die-hard Ford family. I'm on my 12th Mustang, SVT Focus has got nothing for power. My mom drives an SVT Focus. Even this ST170 is obsolete, right now I'm driving a blown 01 Rousch stage III putting over 550hp to the wheels. Get yourself an 03 Cobra. Ford didn't do that great of a job in producing power of these Focus's.

I made some great power, but it took a lot of work. I do the work myself with my friends performance shop. I couldn't have afforded to pay someone to do it for me. Also remember, this video is almost 4 years old. I drive an Audi S4 now.

@Danfive0 a large engine uses more gas. if you drive a lot its a simple way to cut costs to have a small car to get around.
you have the mindset of its smaller engine then a mustang so why bother, well why bother with a mustang theres bigger engines then that. you could endlessly go larger but its not really the point to have the biggest engine.
the hobbie is seeing what you can get out of the engine, 2L 2.5L 5L 5.7L or whatever!!

@Danfive0 well the only reason the foci was underpowered is because when it came out, ford did not want it to be faster than the v6 mustang. which is true on the drag strip, but on the track the mustang will have to be catching up

I suspect you are trying to make a joke from your ricer experience. However, I'm going to acknowledge your response rather then delete it. The sticker in the window is the company I work for that had sponsored the build. The car is incredibly fast and if you understand basic engine/forced induction principals, then you can recognize that.

the battery is in the trunk. zero gauge wire is ran from the hatch to a terminal strip in the engine bay for the positive line. the negative is grounded to the frame at the battery.

That is by far the only focus i would own, the speedometer is just probably just the speed sensors (there should be 2 of them) a output and input. they dont really mater though its not like they are stopping the car from operating or anything.

because the traction control in some of the svt foci can't be disabled, and pulling a fuse forces it off, but also eliminates abs and destroys the braking bias....

i have a custom tune in the ecu using diablo. i have access to the software so i treat the ecu as a standalone. i tweak it nearly everyday. the t/c is disabled in the ecu with the tune. i don't have to pull a fuse.

you bet. with lowered compression from a cometic engine hat. the compression now is about 9.6:1 from 10.5.
the boost was raised a little over the past few years and the engine is still going strong. it goes on a 4,800 km trip across country every year when i visit family.
