The RCMP was intially Known as the North West Mounted Police. They are the oldest established police force in North America. The no gun policy they had in the Yukon during the gold rush in Dawson City had great success. There was no murders, which was incredible considering the period in time.

I regularly cross the US Canadian border (patrolled by RCMP) with my unregistered unlicensed vehicle and you dumdasses run my plates and ID and still let me go, and did i mention that i do not have a license!!! @416xplod Not entirely true. I've friends in the RCMP. You have to do northern duty within the first few years, that's the mandatory transfer part. After that, if you like where you're posted you can stay there. The catch is you need to transfer for professional development. If you want to make corporal you have to move to a detachment where they need one. Same goes for all promotions. If you're happy as a constable you can stay put.
@tysonpeter no you don't need any college education but it doesn't hurt but it doesn't have to be something related to policing because they don't want only the people who took the policing or law course cause then you don't have a diverse force with different points of view and opinions. i would suggest you take whatever you want in school and maybe it will help you in progressing in the RCMP but the minimum requirement is high school diploma but go to college aha
@cheesynounou for rcmp you have to do a test anyway and the recruitment process only begins based on how you score on that test. so it's really up to you.
@cheesynounou sample tests are on rcmp website it includes stuff like comprehension spelling checks and then they have a memory test you look at a picture and then do a memory test i think half an hour later. and if you fail you write again but you have to wait some time before you can write it again.
@tysonpeter like darkknight mentioned you don't need a degree and i recently met with a recruiter and she echoed the statement saying that a degree or diploma wont necessarily help you get onto the force but it will make a significant difference when you apply for specialized policing duties after you finish your patrol work. so study something that you enjoy and it will help you specialize down the road but it will also show at your first interview that your dedicated and intelligent

Get the RCMP out of British Columbia in favour of a new provincial police force that may have some accountability to the people that they are supposed to SERVE.

@416xplod Not entirely true. I've friends in the RCMP. You have to do northern duty within the first few years, that's the mandatory transfer part. After that, if you like where you're posted you can stay there. The catch is you need to transfer for professional development. If you want to make corporal you have to move to a detachment where they need one. Same goes for all promotions. If you're happy as a constable you can stay put.

@cheesynounou I don't know hourly, but the salary is close to $50K and over $70K after three years. They do make overtime like all police forces.

@tysonpeter no you don't need any college education but it doesn't hurt but it doesn't have to be something related to policing because they don't want only the people who took the policing or law course cause then you don't have a diverse force with different points of view and opinions. i would suggest you take whatever you want in school and maybe it will help you in progressing in the RCMP but the minimum requirement is high school diploma but go to college aha

@cheesynounou for rcmp you have to do a test anyway and the recruitment process only begins based on how you score on that test. so it's really up to you.

@cheesynounou sample tests are on rcmp website it includes stuff like comprehension spelling checks and then they have a memory test you look at a picture and then do a memory test i think half an hour later. and if you fail you write again but you have to wait some time before you can write it again.

@tysonpeter like darkknight mentioned you don't need a degree and i recently met with a recruiter and she echoed the statement saying that a degree or diploma wont necessarily help you get onto the force but it will make a significant difference when you apply for specialized policing duties after you finish your patrol work. so study something that you enjoy and it will help you specialize down the road but it will also show at your first interview that your dedicated and intelligent

@416xplod Look into CrossFit. Most cities have a CrossFit gym now. Start going there, and I guarantee you that you'll be fit enough for depot. Most CrossFits are ran by cops or military. It's way better for police and military than going to the regular gym and pumping weights to get big.

In the first 5 seconds I see an officer with a gun drawn immediately followed by a military style raid in the streets. When I was a kid, police never had a weapon drawn unless it was absolutely necessary.
