To IK1963, now that's "Bitey" flying, mate. I suspect you are telling the truth, so love the imagery. Of course, if you had claimed that trees, cows or chickens were up there with you then I might not have believed you.
Hey, i supose it's truth, even in denmark we encounter straws in thermals when theyre harvesting the fields in august, and thermals in DK are on a really good day maxing out at 1000fpm, and normally 500-800 fpm. Autralia is a freaking nice place to fly.
Ha ha, come to daddy! Come to Australia, and then you will get strong lift. I've had the vario lockup on max, and the alt was going around once every 30 seconds. That's why branches off trees were in the thermal with me! You ever caught the one thermal off a 2000 foot launch to cloud base at 17,000 feet, with a minimum 1800fpm rate of climb?
The beeping noise is an altimeter with audio feedback used by glider pilots to determine lift. Raising notes indicates liftfalling notes tell the pilot to move on to more thermally efficient air.
My gosh ... The airspeed ! He's flying at 70 km/h and he hopes climbing ??

It doesn't look like strong lift at all, Besides that you should definitely get better climb in 40-50 degrees bank, circling closer to a core.

I hear the bips from two E-variometers.. mabye thats the reason for the "enormous" lift... ordinary lift X 2 = Heavy Lift

Dude.. telling us this is simply not fair. You could at least try to pretend the thermals down there are as bad as they are here..

I wouldn't recommend playing tetras and eating cheese curds while you are flying!
