i got a DD-1 today, it was awesome finding out my H/U has perfect power on flat, my aq3500.1 has a super sensitive clipping indeicator, the amp also buzzes when ur barely even clipping, the DD-1 was dead on with both indicators on my amp, y did i get it if my amp already has that?, i like to have more than 1 or 2 "opinions", it was DEFINITELY worth the extra money for extra reassurance, i dont make much money, im not a baller, the DD-1 is saving me HUNDREDS-THOUGHSANDS of dollars in the long run
@NiteRyda88 thanks man! Plus, bro, lets be honest...even with the clipping light on your amp, i bet you never used the proper test tracks to set your gain overlaps. Plus, you wouldnt know your deck didnt distort, unless you tested it. Some will, some wont. Even if youre 100% it isnt, you still have EQ's, processors that come before the amp and their distortion threshold needs to be determined as well. Without knowing that, it makes no difference where the amp gain is since its all a guess
@meade916 not the proper test track, ive used a 50hz tone from bass mekanics album with all the frequencies, but i know 50 is too high, yeah ive gotten lucky with my deck being 100% clean, with 5v pre outs, just because i wasnt sure about my radios distortion level i didnt add any processors, EQs or line drivers, as any small amount of distortion would only b amplified by them n screw me over even more, but thanks to u now i can add a line driver, bump that 5v to 9v
@meade916 also thaks to u, i got my amp n head unit to 100% playing level, i am able to throw 900-1000 watts to each of my 8inch subwoofers :), before they started to stink after a few minutes of beating on them at 600 watts each, but now they r receiving 100% clean signal n i can beat on the subs with more power n they have yet to stink, i played my 4 8s on full tilt on my aq3500.1 at .5 ohm at 13.3-13.5volts for 15 minutes, im not sure how much the imp rise is, but cant b much, thanks meade
The smd distortion analyzer is great for quick setting up for sure. I don't know much about that 7,000 dollar analyzer but doesn't it have it's value also?
Hi Meade, Great idea looks like a great product too. I looked to the 515 it's price is up there slightly less than 7k more like $6200.00 but That does not include tax but even still with what you are selling your unit for the savings is well worth it. Keep up the good work.

All I know is someone with a system bailed out of my now tuned system cause I had it way under powered on my new subs :D and thats only after I burned a subwoofer last month that I wish I had a time machine cause I was crazy about my subs they lasted me a very long time but I had turned it up to high one day left the radio playing and smoked woofer presto magic by the time I came back ;( buttt now I know my limits... it took me about fifteen min cause even a caveman(ME) can do it :)

For those of you that think the price is too high just remember a few points. Steve has to recover his cost and time researching and developing this. There is the cost of parts and assembling which is done here in the USA. He has to pay all the guys helping him. Finally this device isn't something that that the average person is going to be buying and is considered a competition accessory. He has to sell it at a price that will make him a profit and will be worth continuing to manufacture.

@meade916 My multi meter wont give me distortion or clipping your right but i found a calculator online and i figured out how many AC volts would give me 400 watts rms..thats what my subs rated at so i figure im good there.. Its not the best but atleast i got some bump.

hey can anyone help me so i got a after market in dash dvd player and when i turn the volume up i can hear a engine buzz from the speakers the sound changes as i change the revs on my car is there anything i can do to clean up the sound? the stock head unit dident do this
@meade916 i dont know if its accurate but my amp has a clipping detector if i set the gains to high on it it lights up with that being said why dont all amplifiers coming out have built in clipping detectors instead of having to buy a dd1 or an o-scope........

@risenwarfare ya but thats a detector for the amps output, not the input from the Headunit. That just means your subs arnt clipping, but your speakers are still getting it clipped (in some cases) :P No audio guru here, wish dd-1 woulda dropped a while back, woulda saved me some pennies.
@risenwarfare your amps clipping detector is bullshit compared to this. Not only that but i guarantee you didnt use a cd with the proper tracks to match your head unit with it. Not that you could because It doesnt work that way anyway. If you dont know where your deck is distorting then none of it matters. ....all that thing is is a fancy light that blinks and in most cases, totally worthless.

I like how he showed the bad ground loop isolator and the detector picked it up quicker and easier than the o-scope. it would do the same if you had a working HU or AMP you thought was good? its also going to determine the working condition of your equippment? if you could not pick up a signal through your amp before distortion occured it could be the deck, rca cables or amp that is causing a problem like the isolator. this will help you find where the problem is occuring by process of elmin.

What would you rate the kenwood 348u head unit (for the price) compared with other head units in the price range.' I do not have any money left for an o-scope so I cannot grade it myself.
I am very pleased to hear about the home audio one as I love home audio and always want to get my sound better. I am an analog guy and building my first tube amplifier, but I still use a TOTL receiver. I would love to know when I can get a DD-1 for home use because it will save me hours and hours of work. Beta testing would be great too!! :)

also keep in mind that with the DD-1 you don't need a probe like my velleman handheld does, and those can break. (which did happen to me once)

hey can anyone help me so i got a after market in dash dvd player and when i turn the volume up i can hear a engine buzz from the speakers the sound changes as i change the revs on my car is there anything i can do to clean up the sound? the stock head unit dident do this

@meade916 i dont know if its accurate but my amp has a clipping detector if i set the gains to high on it it lights up with that being said why dont all amplifiers coming out have built in clipping detectors instead of having to buy a dd1 or an o-scope........
obviously u need it for amps that dont but im talking about future amplifers smd should make amps like that they would be awesome

@risenwarfare ya but thats a detector for the amps output, not the input from the Headunit. That just means your subs arnt clipping, but your speakers are still getting it clipped (in some cases) :P No audio guru here, wish dd-1 woulda dropped a while back, woulda saved me some pennies.

@risenwarfare your amps clipping detector is bullshit compared to this. Not only that but i guarantee you didnt use a cd with the proper tracks to match your head unit with it. Not that you could because It doesnt work that way anyway. If you dont know where your deck is distorting then none of it matters. ....all that thing is is a fancy light that blinks and in most cases, totally worthless.

i get the idea and i and have no doubt about the quality/accuracy on that product. i just think the price is a bit too high. i picked an old scope for 30 euros and it works. The only problem is that i needs power from the grid and its heavy. but again usualy you only need to set the gains once.

@bogus1337 it might be too much for someone setting their gain once.......but its value is HIGHLY apparent if you do this for a living or are a frequent do it yourself-er. The price is actually going up in 3 months as this is only an introductory price.

I like how he showed the bad ground loop isolator and the detector picked it up quicker and easier than the o-scope. it would do the same if you had a working HU or AMP you thought was good? its also going to determine the working condition of your equippment? if you could not pick up a signal through your amp before distortion occured it could be the deck, rca cables or amp that is causing a problem like the isolator. this will help you find where the problem is occuring by process of elmin.

I am very pleased to hear about the home audio one as I love home audio and always want to get my sound better. I am an analog guy and building my first tube amplifier, but I still use a TOTL receiver. I would love to know when I can get a DD-1 for home use because it will save me hours and hours of work.
