Dear Taiwanese. I'm ashamed about my (Dutch) government in putting up so much trouble in the case of selling Dutch RDM submarines to Taiwan, in the 90's. RDM shipyard was happy to build them for you, only our government thinks it must stay close friends with communist China. Netherlands is full of pro-communist politicians, and meddlers and that's why i think Holland will go down one day (maybe to the bottom of the sea?). Good luck with your struggle for freedom against the commies enslavers.
Taiwan is prime example of western hypocracy. Western always talk good game about democracy and freedom of speech etc... yet, they will not sell hardware that let a democratic nation to defend themselves.
I don't think Taiwan cannot build submarines. First the hulls should be built then the electronics(sonar etc) and API can be fitted once they are developed in-house. At least a dozen of 3000ton class subs would be required, to be fitted with small reactors later.
taiwan is small country but largely enough,I assure you it will be very difficult for china to invade it not in imagination that china might lose in a war..
@freshmeat24 I am sorry, but China loose against Taiwan, impossible. However, if china go's to war with Taiwan and the U.S supports Taiwan with personal then, I think china could loose the war. Invasion difficult yes but not impossible. To me Taiwan is the Israel of South East Asia, with out the U.S you guys would be gone.
The drawings already being there, the HY80 hulls should have been built in the early '2000s since other equipment and system integration can come later. Even the former Yugoslavia which was much poorer and much less developed than Taiwan built its own subs.
US does not have conventional diesel subs anymore,only nuclear ones. China has been pressuring all other countries so that they won't sell subs to Taiwan. So the only way is indigenous building. Without Chinese pressure there would be more subs.
oh my god i know that! but dont you get it?even if the us navy still build diesel ones they still wont sell them.china doesnt pressure suppliers they only influence them and that influence wont work on most euro powers. russia is probably the ones who wont supply taiwan of arsenals.
China doesn't pressure the suppliers but the governments; many politicians nowadays have business related connections with China so it is not difficult to imagine what happens. Actually Russia is the only potential supplier since China cannot exert any related pressure or influence on Russia. But Russian weapons are not popular with First World nations due to quality and interoperability issues etc.
Well the dutch (i'm a proud one myselve) create wonderfull subs, but yes these are just a little aged... thats why the Royal Dutch Navy sold them i think ghehe.

The US will not export any weapons to Taiwan in the future. Indigenous development/manufacture should start NOW. Japan made some subs 60 years ago.
