On the theme, there are these bows on the right hand at the beginning.. I think they are there to remind us, that the g sharp and the c sharp are the resolution tones, so they have to be played softer.. It´s very important, because ths has to do with the whole piece.
In the 5.Variation in the 5. bar (beginning to count from the first full bar) you play the third and fourth acoord on the right hand with d, but they are with e flat, according to my "urtext" edition. Keep working!
I have played this a number of times as an amateur pianist. I think your playing of it here is superb. I'm always amazed by the YouTube criticisms. Your rendering is glorious and heart wrenching.
try a bit more phrasing and connectivity in your theme..it could be a bit faster. hah...dont worry this piece will develop over time. it took me a bit over a year to brilliant-nize it. i loooove the last couple of variations though. good luck!
This is an amazingly difficult piece, most pianists are afraid of, so bravo. However I think it's a bit young still, lacks depth; the thema and other parts are more mystic, almost religious sometimes, and we cannot hear that here. You definitely should listen to the version by Perahia, one of the best to me. Good luck!!
I feel that this piece is lacking feeling and depth. It is evident that you are very talented, this is a very difficult piece to perfect. As a fellow pianist who has also worked on this piece, I suggest slow practice and dig deeper into the keys in the beg. Using your arms more on octaves with help your sound to sound larger and more grand rather than harsh. What technique do you have? I have the relaxation technique and it allows my small hands to work wonders on the piano.
