not very good? are you fishing for a compliment?! this is pretty darn decent, professional-level, so stop degrading your piano playing! I put a lot of bill evans up on my youtube page as he is the best jazz pianist of all time, but when I do my left hand I try to keep it a little busier when I'm noodling with my right hand, otherwise it will sound a bit boring or lacklustre. gonna give u 5stars
Very nice job. It's hard enough just playing the transcribed notes to Bill's solo, but you have pretty much acquired his "feel" in the playing, which is even more difficult. If I weren't watching the video, I might almost think it was actually Bill Evans playing. Congratulations.
"Story Line" is actually an extended version of Bill's classic tune, "RE: PERSON I KNEW".
BTW, I was at the Town Hall concert in 1966. Unforgettable!
I certainly appreciate your comment! For me Bill's music is so conversational and intimate, that nearly anyone can feel it. I'm attempting to learn that conversational style where it's not so much how many notes you play rather, what you say with them that matters.
I'm really sorry there are no videos of the Town Hall concert and to have been there must have be a great experience.
The overall arc of this piece is really nice. You start out low energy and almost tenative. It doesn't start building until 2 minutes, and then you come back down before the ending. Really nice. Your harmonies are great. What Bill Evans did the best was convey emotionality in his playing, and that comes across in your playing as well. 5*'s
I truly appreciate the complement, but I can't take credit for any of the harmonies. This song was transcribed so they all belong to Mr. Evans. The only thing that's mine is the ending. But, I'm just learning this stuff and figured that if I play his music more or less the way he played it, then when I learn enough to go on my own, then I should at least have some facility with his style.
I don't know why you say it's not very good. I think it's delicious. Play more!

I used to play Time Remembered, but haven't done anything with it in awhile. I might dig that one up again...

Correct. However, it was Story Line before it was Re: Person I Knew. He changed the tempo and approach then renamed it...

Well played.
I've heard this song before, but can't seem to find it. On which album is it?
Bjarle 3 years ago
It's on an album called "Bill Evans at Town Hall". For some reason it's very much overlooked and I think it's some of his best work.

Really nicely done. You have a good touch with good controlled playing and use of dynamics. I enjoyed listening to this.
