did anyone else feel terrified by this theme and other 80s theme songs like "Chips" and "Small Wonder" that were devised by coke head producers and engineers choosing eerie instruments that aroused them in a delusional state?
I can make it into a ringtone...if you can access internet on your phone, privately send me your email address and I'll send you a direct link to download directly to your phone.
This is my favorite of all the PBS logos ever! I was born in 1986, so I can't recall ever seeing this on PBS as a young child, even though PBS was basically all I watched growing up (b/c we had no cable at my house.)
PBS seemed a little different. It was the only station that had bits of silence between programs, and it was a different kind of silence, kind of a hiss. In the 80's I remember seeing the pbs logo, a slate telling the next show, some silence, some warblely music and then the words "Butterfly in the sky..."
mattcintosh2: You and I are totally on the same page about the "silence" thing. What I hate about television is that the longer it's around, the more frenetic it gets. It's a outright assault now. In the late '80s, it still had at least a second of silent black between most commercials and bumpers. And PBS of course had plenty of calm "hiss". But now? Jeeziz. Bam-bam-bam-bam-bam! Never lets up. Not even calm old PBS. I hate it, I tell ya.
I recently saw the Annenberg logo on "Destinos: An Introduction to Spanish" on a 2 am airing on my local PBS station, WHYY in Philadelphia. I was half-asleep when I came across it, and it scared the shit out of me!
FROM THE COMPOSER: NPR Theme Composer BJ Leiderman did the Annenberg/CPB logo back in the Stone Ages on a Moog Synthesizer! Producer was Frank Beach, currently with Altruist Media in Arlington, VA.
I don't understand how a logo can scare the hell out of someone. LOL. Growing up I always thought they were cool. These bring back sweet memories. I don't get these constant comments from people saying they were scared from these bumpers. What the heck? LOL!
The voice ona logo is usually creepy as is the music. Plus, the logos just seem out of context with what show they normally follow. It is like Sesame street, then this weird logo.
Wow. Annenberg still sends down a nearly identical bumper/ID before nearly every program. They're ceasing the national Annenberg feed next fall, so I guess they see little need to update.
Coulda been school as well, I remember seeing that snneberg/cpg project logo at home before however, maybe it was showed on a rerun when I was like 2 or 3 xD
aaaaah yes. the annenberg/cpb project dound reminds me of being up late durring summer vacation (in the 80's of course) And falling asleep with the tv on.. and id hear that while i was dozing off
Annenberg/CPB! Yes! The current version of the logo references their website, w w w.learner.o r g, where you can watch their programs on streaming video whenever you want!
I don't think the Annenburg/CPB logo has changed at all. I just saw that on TV in the gym the other day. Although the jingle has changed many times the PBS p-heads logo is still the same aswell. Similar to WGBH-Boston.
Hello, I'm looking for a logo of some 80s porn vhs tapes, with a jingle sounding very much like Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene IV. I don't remember the studio. If you know this logo please let me know !
Hey, mattcintosh2, can you upload the Annenber/CPB logo with the announcer saying: «Funding for this program was provided by a fund from Annenberg/CPB» and with the words Annenberg/CPB with underneath Annenberg Foundation-Corporation for Pulic Broadcasting, please. I'd like it! Thanks.
I made a vid capture of this from the "economics U$A" show about 4 years ago. The only other part I have(that I cropped out) was a economics u$a slate with a number countdown and finally a slate with the details of the episode: airdate(1985), episode name/number.
I like annenberg. And the PBS logo from the 80's was better than the PBS logo in the 90's and 2000's.
