  • You reminded me another Roland the E 20.

I mention 2 sounds: Doctor Solo and Square Wave.

  • You dont have any of these patches ANYMORE! the greatest patches I have ever heard! what the helllll?

  • I beleive the pad at 8:17 is the 'soundtrack' pad right? I want this synth (or d550) so bad! I don't suppose you know if the soundtrack patch came on any ram cards that go into the roland u220 do you?

  • what should I buy?? really need help!

    a Kurzweil K2000 V3

A KORG Z1 with pcmcia card = more sounds)

    or A YAMAHA DX7

I need answers as soon as possible;)

  • @alphacode909 yeah if you cant tell I go a little crazy anytime I see a synth from the 80s.

  • @alphacode909 oh damn lol. well if and when I can get my hands on one it wont be. i personally not only want one because of the amazing sounds but despite how much I love my fantom x7 I just in reality want a 2nd keyboard to be able to mess around with. once I have 2 keyboards ill be good until I stumble across a jupiter 8 or an oberheim obx

  • What patch are you using at 2:20 ?

  • dont you miss this synth?? seriously lol. im actually looking to buy one if anyone here on youtube wants to sell me a d-50 in good condition

  • @caressxofxsteel yes and no , very nice sounds but its noisy as hell ...better to get it sample the sounds then remove noise from samples and sell it ,thats what i did.

  • @alphacode909 you mean you sampled the sounds just as samples or you made like a vsti out of them?

  • @alphacode909 I dont hear any noise here!? bought one today for 160$

  • Do you know of any websites that list different patches for this synth and how to program them? I tried googling it but couldn't find any.

  • 0:37 I think thats the type of sound from law and order show

  • Brilliant synth, the only things that stopped me from buying it were that it doesn't have a sequencer and it's not multi timberal.

  • I love the sound from 2.12-2.25

  • I think this synthesizer got the best pads in the world!!!! Damn that sounds fantastic! 5/5

  • I had one for years, first a D50 then a D550. It's a great sounding machine, one of the few digital synths on which the PWM can be modulated by the LFO, but what I hated about it was that the PCM waves cannot be routed through the filter; only the synth engine can. I replaced my D550 with a JV1080 a couple of years ago.

  • the pad at the start.. is that a factory patch?

  • the DACs have some unique character

  • hello, thanks a lot, i find one in occasion, i wasn't knowing him so i didn't take yesterday, i 'm going to buy tommorow for 150 €, exceptionnal !!

  • revelation 5/5

  • How much polyphony does the D50 have?

  • i think it would be anywhere from 16-32 voices which is what todays 128 voices of polyphony was in 1987

  • The D50 wasnt around when "Thriller" was released, in a few interviews in Keyboard magazine from 1983 they list all of the synths used and the Synclavier was used on the intro. Matter of fact I bought my D50 new in July of 1987, and shorlty after went to Fullsail and we used the Synclavier extensively. There were no computers back then even recording audio.

Love the D50, hard to beat just ask Herbie.

  • Wow, I would love to have these sounds on my D10!

    Awesome playing too.

I wonder if the d10 can take d50 patches....

  • Ohh yes sure it can!!!

Open your D10 take out the wave table and exchange it with the D50 one!!!

  • take out the wave table? What does that mean?

  • roland units are fitted with expansion boards which are compatible from one to another i dont own a d50 nor a d10 but its possible

  • Wow! Talk about a sleeper! Whip out a D-10 and then surprise everyone! :)

  • What's a d800 ?

  • Is 5.50 the sound used on intro to Beat It?

This synth is lovely, nice demo!

  • Into to Beat it is a Synclavier...

  • trompetas, tuba, bass, percusiones, etc??

  • is this synth much different from the d20?

  • welche wunderbare soundlibary ist in deinen beiden clips zu hören? selbst programmiert? wäre sehr an diesen pads interessiert! lg aus thüringen

  • sorry,my friend was loged in

I HAVE A PG 1000 CONTROLLER FOR A ROLAND D50 or 550 very good condition.please write me if ure interessted.

  • Hi do you still have the controller.

  • hey i have a roland pg 1000 controller for this synth.very good condition.anybody interesstet?

  • This was my first synthesizer. The one and only machine.. made me turn into a synth nerd.. a collector and yeh.. Just gave me the intrest for synths because of its fantastic sound. I learned synthesis with it.. without the pg1000. This vid made me wanna go program some more sounds. No vst is like this.. the old hardware stuff is the best! THE END;) Peace out!

  • Haha, the ending was spot on. I'm buying this tomorrow LOL

  • update: bought it. Fantastic synthesizer. =D

  • I've got one of these, one of my favourite synths. Hundreds of patches on the net, and many usuable ones plus very 'interesting' to program. It's got an atmosphere all of it's own, I think it's got a soul which is saying something for a digital synth. The warmest digital synth (non VA) ever and one of the sexiest designs even 20 years after release!

  • has the D-50 got a demo song called "Central Park" ?

  • It does amazing Organs without a doubt, some of the best I have ever heard. Its synthesis methods are quite different from the DX-7. The D-50 is more related to the Wavestation or the TG/SY yamaha synth while the DX-7 is closer to a Casio CZ series.

The D-50 also has PCM waveforms, which gives it a different characteristic.

  • Agreed. I have its "baby brother" version, the MT-32. It's interesting mix of analog emulation, PCM sample attacks, and ring modulation can give it a sound all of its own when one learns how to program it.

  • Just bought myself a D-550 at my music store with a memory card for 250! Man I need to start programming this thing, this will stave off my hunger for one of those nice JD990's for a while.

  • Does anyone know where I can grab one of these? (other than ebay, I live in Sydney)

  • You're right. A stunning sound.

  • Just check Roland factory cards 0-4 and you will recognise a lot of them.

  • Yes i think some came from the Roland banks

  • In part 1 he says these presets are mostly his own with another few being the previous owner's. A damn good programmer, I must say!

  • Law & Order "dong-dong" patch @0:30!

  • Amazing patches! How to get them and load into D 50?

  • Hi yes you have cutoff and resonnance like in an analogue synth..

  • how much is this?

  • Missing the warmth of analog but the massive amount of patches available online makes it a good value.

  • Well the D50 lack's true analog warmth, true, can't argue that, no VCO's,but the D50 sounds warmer than most of the VA's today,D50 accually was, for the most part the first VA,because it synthesize's it's own waveform's.A modern D50 that included multimode filter's,more waveform's,FM, modern efx processor, additional features like polyphonic aftertouch and such, while mantaining the origanal D50 charm, that would awesome.

  • thinking about getting a D50..is this THE synth from George Michael "Father Figure "..???

  • i have one of thoses...but i sold it on 95....bad luck for me!!my fave patch was the staccato heaven, and calliope

  • d50 is the best for sounds!

  • HEYYY what about "Pizzagogo" sound?? i want to hear it from this keyboard. Orinoco Flow from Enya =P

  • sail away sail away sail away..... :-)

  • fantastic pads

  • Internal delay and reverb

  • Are the delays from internal fx or is it programming?

  • No effects used here only d50 internal ones ...

  • Very nice sound.

Which delay unit do you use?
