  • its so hard to choose which all state group you want to be in when one is playing mahler 2. the other the planets, the other techeli, and then the last... this beautiful piece.

  • So beautiful to hear. I'm from Massachusetts one of the original 13 colonies!

  • @crunkcymbals09 Hey I'm from another one of the 13 colonies, but mine (Virginia) is quite farther south. This piece is amazing. I wish my high school band would and/or could play this piece. I know that our last director was crazy about Grainger.

  • @pythonfan84 Interesting! I attend college in Virginia.

  • His house is about a twenty minute drive from me. Might try to get an appointment to see the place.

  • It sounds so much like Australian Up-Country Tune......

  • Makes me cry *every* time.

  • heaven

  • 1 dislike. only one........thats one to many

  • Percy Grainger was a genius!!! My favorite.

  • This is my favorite arrangement of this piece :) anyone know who arranged it or where to buy a copy of the recording or the score?

  • love this! Beautiful...high school memories!

  • I think I might like this better than the band version.

  • Nice piece

  • Lovely piece of music. However, when people use the term "Dear Old Blighty", who are they talking about? Some say it refers to BRITAIN but I always felt it was a lovely and affectionate name for ENGLAND by homesick English people abroad. Just like we in Europe affectionately call Americans "Yank" or "Uncle Sam".

    REGARDS, DES, DUBLIN.

  • @squirell1952

Historical provenance notwithstanding (Check it out for yourself, there's not enough space here to explain it!), 'Blighty' does in fact mean 'Britain'.

To use "England" in place of "Britain" (Happens irritatingly often) is liable to whip up the invective response of the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish members of the Union.

If you mean Britain, say Britain. If you mean SPECIFICALLY England, say England.

Casually interchange the two at your own risk...!

  • Stuck in my head aallll day:)

  • 2:55 makes my hair stand on end

  • oh grainger <3

  • I cried as I played it in high school, and I still cry when I hear it. I love this piece of art.

  • this song makes me cry for no reason

  • @alanslife1 I can assure you that it's for a great reason.

  • @alanslife1 I'm listening to this at work, and had to shut the door halfway as tears started to spring up in my eyes. Beautiful piece.

  • I love the Australian Up-Country Tune involvement at the beginning and the end. =)

  • dude i fucking love this song. and colas breugon overture. we're playing it this spring in virgina. dude you guy's sound amazingly good even though it's only a few band directors that aren't to afraid to conduct it. you just might know who our conductor is it's Mr. Leroy George. we just might see you guys this year at states. you guys should have a trumpet to play the solo piece like slip it into to have one play a octave higher. it' sound amazing i'll try to see if i can record ours

  • @lizazar Wow dude my band just played Colonial song and Colas Breugnon this year for districts and states!! Im the lead trumpet player!!

  • who is playing this?

    we're playing it:)

  • Rochester Philharmonic. Also known as the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra. They sound amazing because faculty members from the Eastman school all play in the orchestra.

  • pure heaven glorious

  • This is a gorgeous piece. I wish I had played more of Grainger's work during my years in wind ensemble.

  • This is a beautiful piece!!! You should check out Grainger's Gumsuckers March. It has basically the same theme, but is at a quicker pace. It's a fantastic piece!

  • Have played it... Its not like any march. Its realy different and difficult!

  • MMMM the magic about Grainger is that until you see the actual score you cant believe how complex his music is - sounds so simple - but needs hour of work just to consider playing it FANTASTIC!!!!!!

  • Great piece!

  • This is one of my all time favorite pieces!

  • This is a really oddly orchestrated arrangement. A large part of what makes Grainger's Colonial Song so great is the extremely precise orchestration. I mean, the orchestra sounds great, but I'd really like to hear it in the "original" 1918 arrangement. I say original...but I mean the last of several that Grainger did himself.

  • i argree 100% with having the original copy but this is the only version I had. I'm sorry that I don't have the original wind band copy. Once I find it i'll be sure to put it up! sorry to disappoint you!

  • @concertbandland If you want me to send you the arragment as a pdf I have a copy of the north texas wind symphony preforming it just send me a message!

  • @RSemar11 I have a vinyl LP of the piano roll of Grainger playing the very peice himself, if you haven't heard it. rob.hyde@cheshireeast.gov.uk
