  • @JTelli786 yea mine use to come and go and wasnt to bad...yea it use to ill tell you man stay away from loud enviroments and dont use ear buds

  • @modplugrad id give anything for silence man i heard theres a shot they inject into your ear muscles that stops the ringing, hissing, clicking, dinging, puslating w/e you may have for about 20 minutes....i want that on my deathbed when i die i just want silence if only for a minute you know what i mean?

  • I have tinnitus and hearing loss 50% in my right ear

Woke up one day with it and had tinnitus ever since(im 18)

I have a profound respect for people who have had tinnitus their whole lives

I hope that one day coming soon that their will be a cure for everyone who suffers from this

  • I am not American and I have it

  • Ive forgotten how silence feels. Its a weird thing to realize, that something that you used to not even think about, but just take for granted, has become an almost unknown concept to you. Id give a lot to hear absolutely nothing for just one hour...

  • will alcohol worsen tinnitus or just iritate it

  • i was diagnosed with Tinittus today, but its improved alot sence i first scheduled the appointment a few days ago, im not sure if its temporarry but i think it is because it was ringing very loundly a 2 months ago then slowly went away, but after an afternoon of listning to my in ear head phones, which i was carefull not to het to loud, it came, back and the Bowl game later that week didnt help, either way i pray that it is temporary but for thoughs who have perminant tinitus, i hope for a cure!

  • He is my favorite actor. And the irony is that i currently have tinnitus. I think it started about two years ago. My form is vascular tinnitus.

  • Im not the person who likes concerts clubs etc. But i think my ringing in my right ear started after going to an opera with my school i really didnt want to go to it it seemed ok at first the volume worked for me but then there was a pistol shot and it hurts in my ears goes home hears a sound but only if really concentrating and now i got worse after christmas dinner everybody except me shouted :(

  • It hit me hard about 3 months ago and its gotten a lot louder. Keeping me up @ nite...It's very dreadful

  • Can William Shatner still hear his tinnitus?

  • @shusterandy Mr. Shatner has gotten better and "habituated" to his tinnitus. He went through a program called Tinnitus Retraining Therapy and got relief as a result.

  • @ATAJD Well it would be hard to get habeted to my tinnitus, because mine changes pitch every other week. Sometimes its loud, sometimes its quiet. It seems to change alot.

  • @shusterandy I encourage you to visit the American Tinnitus Association's website for more information on existing treatment strategies, as well as the research we're funding that are leading to breakthroughs regularly. ATA dot org.

  • @ATAJD i just had my tinnitus a few days ago and i'm hearing a buzzing sound in my left ear and a high pitch sound in my right ear! will i go deaf in a few months??

  • @shitnamese401 Tinnitus does not cause deafness, however going deaf can cause tinnitus - it just doesn't work the other way. So you will not go deaf from the tinnitus. But I would suggest protecting your ears from further damage by wearing hearing protection in loud environments.

  • @shitnamese401 Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I suffer from Tinnitus & have since the day I was born. I was born with 40pct hearing loss. Yes, you do get the ringing noise. You won't go deaf straight away but your hearing will over a period of time worsen but not too much. Tinnitus is caused by nerve damage to the ear drum. I have the ringing constantly it doesn't bother me. There is no cure for this no matter what people say. I am 39 & if there was I would advocate it.

  • @mclaughlin72 I just wanted to note that not all tinnitus is caused by nerve damage to the ear drum. Some definitely is a result of this kind of trauma or injury but there are many ways that people can develop tinnitus. Thanks for your comment!

  • @ATAJD Dear Mr Shatner, Thank you for the info: I just got Sudden hearing loss in my left ear , and now with that tinnitus. Any wonderful info would be great.

  • I have had tinnitus since I was 13. I'm 17 now, and ever since then it's been bugging me. Then I learned if I don't think about it, it will seem quieter. I've always been a music lover. This may have been the reason why I've had tinnitus for four years now.

  • i have put up a vid with notched music to help tinnitus suffers like myself.music therapy with frequencies notched out.a cutting edge therapy:)

  • Can William Shatner still hear his tinnitus?

  • I have tinnitus , once u forget about it , u will never hear it , trust me.

  • @DunkingFeet also this does not effect your mental capacity..? I have a pitch that sounds exactly like the broad cast alert system you hear on TV. It is not just a ringing. It has a pattern...the tin. I had previously was not like this, it went and came. This episode is pretty constant. Anyone have this kind of sound...?before

  • @Victoryisoursindeed I have Severe Tinnitus--I think there should be a special name for this(ese) suicidal type-insane noise(es). I have three or four different sounds going on all the time/24/7. It's enough to make me want to take my life. I would have already for sure on many occasions,

  • James Tinnitus Kirk?

  • There is a scientist working on a cure for tinnitus right now. Google: Will Rosselini

(Thumb this up so people can see)

  • I've had mine so long, it only bothers me when I think about it. Sometimes it can get quite loud in a quiet room late at night. It's best just to have music or sound around and it fades a little into the background. Bloody annoying it is though. As near as I can figure, mine is around 10,000 hertz maybe 14,000. Very hard to tune to it exactly.

  • I'm 23 and have had it about a year. If you think about it too much it will get in your head, so try not to make a big deal out of it, and you will be ok.

  • Ive been having Tinnitus since I was 10.

  • I had it for two weeks. It drove me crazy. Then miraculously it went away.

  • tinnitus is really depressing me now. I dont know if im going deaf or what. I sometimes and i mean sometimes, listen to music a bit louder than recommended. I had otitis media back when i was around 7. My tinnitus is a radio static type sound, not ringing. The reason why I'm really scared is im only 13, and i dont wanna go deaf, really early. I love playing and listening to music.

  • I got tinnitus from either loud music or taking meds for anxiety and depression... ' I bought a air purifier that I have beside my bed, it helps alot to mask the sound. ' things to avoid are.... caffeine, stress, antibiotics, meds for depression, lack of sleep, alcohol, smoking... workout and eat healthy will help alot. good luck ppl

  • Mine started 5 months ago after a flu. I think it was because I got an ear infection and I didnt go to the doctor. When I dont sleep well I hear it louder, but that happened even before my tinnitus started. Its only affecting my right year.

  • This scientist is currently working on a cure, just google : will rosellini

Also, this website has lots of info: action on hearing loss.org

  • Tinnitus is a major annoying symptom of Meniere's Disease. There's a social network for Meniere's Disease sufferers, Tinnitus sufferers, and anyone with any inner ear or balance related illness, their family and friends are more than welcome as they are integral to a healthy support network.

menieresworld has forums, groups, video, chatrooms, games and loads more.

    Just Google menieresworld

  • Stress amplifies this. If you are annoyed by this, the annoyance makes the brain amplify the sound. So de-stress. You can try anti anxiety drugs like cipramil. It works wonders - makes you feel a bit worse for the first 4 weeks but then you will feel so much better. The problem can be caused by jaw clenching during sleep. check out w w w nti-tss .com/

  • Tinnitus is truly a life sentence of suffering. I happen to have it because of TMJ, which is also incurable. I will never be able to sleep in peace nor eat some foods without the fear of having my jaws locked. Im only 21. Life can be so cruel sometimes...

  • What most people don't understand about Tinnitus, is that persistent Tinnitus and momentary Tinnitus are 2 totally different things. Yes, some people have heard ringing in there ears from time to time, and this is because of a number of environmental factors associated with the inner ear etc, but constant Tinnitus is as a result of damage of a permanent nature. So the "cures" that affect the environmental aspects of Tinnitus are in no way going to address the issue of permanent damage.

  • I'm 19 and have had it as long as I can remember. I've never ever played music loudly on my iPod (not like some people do on buses or trains where you can hear the song they're playing), and I had it before I started going to gigs. I don't know what caused it or what to do, it's really starting to affect me now.

  • The hardest thing is dealing with the fact that I will never know silence again. I haven't abused my ears, listened to loud music, worked with power equipment. I first noticed it after getting a bad flu and it has never gone away. Sometimes it ebbs down a bit. I am getting used to it.

  • @get30inc Really??? The same thing happened to me 5 months ago. I got a flu and felt it was congested and didn't go to the doctor. I think I had an ear infection but ignored it and went away, but the ringing stayed. : (

Before all of this started, when I would go to concerts or clubs, the ringing sometimes would stay for days. Also when I don't sleep well it seems louder.

  • I have had tinnitus since childhood. No reason that I know of, except maybe that I had a lot of severe earaches all through childhood. At first I could only hear it when it was quiet. Now It is loud enough to interfere with my hearing. I've tried Quietus recently and it hasn't made a wit of difference. I'm 70.

  • @roninprogram I feel like i am going completely insane. This tinnitus gets super annoying, and there is no cure.

  • @roninprogram I hear you.

  • I'm a professional musician that had had an unfortunate incident while working for a cruise line. I was seated in a 2000-seat theatre for a rehearsal and leaned forward to pick up an instrument and, at the exact moment, a blast of feedback came through the floor-positioned speaker that was a foot from my head. I felt immediately dizzy and had trouble sleeping the next days. After 2 weeks of the ringing I woke up in the middle of the night and realized my life of "peace and quiet" were over.

  • Thanks for the great info!

  • Hey guys, this girl I've just started seeing has tinnitus, and I'd like to make a gesture - even if it's not a magic cure - to help her out a little. I was thinking of burning a CD with some white noise or nice ambient sounds, do people have any recommendations?

  • @TOML201513 i don't know if that will help, i had this from a ear infection and it went away after my ear infection went a way, i thank god it went away. i had it for 3 months and i felt like i had i for years. i was suicidal the 3 months i had it. it was that bad man, my heart goes to the people you dealt with this for years. it is the most horrible shit to live with.

  • My ears were ringing for two days straight after a concert.

  • @SuperSpanishChicken after i went to a concert my rining hasent stopped ...that was 3 years ago

  • There is a missing component in this discussion: Tinnitus is often caused by emotional stress or emotional trauma. This can be triggered by a traumatic event like a loud sound.

  • Had tinnitus since the 1st grade due to ear infections. For many years I was used to it, but now, at the age of 23, the screeching noise seems to be getting worse and more intrusive. Sometimes I feel like I'm in some kind of mental prison. It robs me of sleep, and even masking techniques offer little assistance now. Sometimes I think it will be the death of me. Trying not give up, but every day I feel a little more like I'm going mad.

  • Ok, I listen to soft music and live in a quiet home. Mine started a couple of months ago and sometimes its so bad it gives me mind blowing headaches so bad I can't think or read and I can't work. Sometimes my head hurts so much from the noise I get dizzy, nauseous and I break down in tears. Is severe headaches normal with this?

  • @LibertyJewel se a doctor due to headaches with it. It doesnt cause headaches usually. Headaches may be from stress with it though.

  • ok after watching this I want to tell everyone to wear earplugs if their gonna be near anything loud! I wanna send the american troops earplugs.

  • Mr. Shatner,

I want to thank you for taking the time, and making the effort, to make this sincere and informative video. I have been a tinnitus sufferer myself; like you I had a terrible experience with it. I've taken the route of alternative therapies and have found great relief. But I have much respect for the ATA as well--anything, any therapy that can be found to help tinnitus sufferers is good in my book.

    Michael Crane

  • i got tinnitus at 9

  • See my video response to learn how to raise free funds for American tinnitus assosiation.

  • I have tinnitus and im 14 fml....

  • @gunrunners1 I'm 16 and I have it. I'm having an MRI soon, though. Make sure you go to the doctor.

  • @gunrunners1 same :l

  • @gunrunners1 May God help you boy, and the rest of us.

  • @gunrunners1 Im 15 and I have Tinnitus. Dont feel bad.

  • @gunrunners1 You're not alone. I'm 20, got hearing aids when I was 17/18 because it started as tinnitus.

  • I’m 24, I have tinnitus, hyperacusis and some hearing loss 16/7. I experience 3 permanent sounds and an infinite number of different frequencies and sounds that pop in and out. It’s like having an antenna capturing sound from space for me.

Blindness separates people from things, deafness separates people from people, tinnitus separates you from the world.

    One day

  • @beyondbelief360 The sound of running water helps me. Taking a shower or standing next to running water/listening to the sound of a waterfall video off of YouTube with headphones. These provide immediate relief for me, don't give up.

  • Has anyone tried Quietus for their tinnitus? It's a homeopathic system created by a rock drummer that helps eliminate ear ringing:

    facebook.com/Quiettinnitus?sk=info

  • @AlisiaLeavitt Quietus is not an approved treatment for tinnitus - it has never been tested in a scientific study to prove why or how it helps tinnitus. While this super supplement may help your overall health and wellness, it is not designed to target the problem of tinnitus head on.

I encourage others who have maybe used Quietus to share their experiences as well.

  • @AlisiaLeavitt I just know they advertise a, 'free' sample that is NOT free. They wanted me to buy three months supply @ 80.00 each, n get one month, 'free'. ..........kisses........

  • @AlisiaLeavitt Homeopathy doesn't work. It's basically water and mostly ethanol. It also comes in the form of those infamous sugar pills. It "works" through placebo and and a good portion of belief.

  • I just woke up from a nap. Noticing there were ringing in my ear I freaked out and looked around the house. Freaking out I couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from so I went outside to see if the sound emanated outside. I plugged my ears and still I could hear the shrieking in my head. I had thought I went crazy because I went around asking people if they could hear it as well and not one responded to me negatively. In my first four hours with tinnitus as a 15 year old I can honestly

  • i'm 16. i have tinnitus.

only in my left ear. my best advice is to just live the way you want to. literally. tinntius goes away when you are with friends. its why i go to bars and shit with my friends, sleep over at friends houses coz you dont notice it. best advice is to not sit by yourself all alone, honestly. dont focus on it, anxiety just worsens it and whereever you go with loud noises take earplugs, fun isnt worth suicidal tendencies and tinnitus does eventually calm. later.

    - caleb

  • @RawrInYawrHeart Couldn't agree more. Mine's always been there and blasting Nirvana and Motorhead on my Walkmans didn't help. When I'm thinking too deeply it gets triggered too. Distractions are the best for it.

  • I've had it for as long as I can remember. I haven't even thought about it extensively until recently. I have never heard silence! It gets drowned out when I am busy but when it is dead silent I can hear the ringing. It the worst when you try to go to sleep.

Does it lead to being deaf? I'd be fine living with it so long as it doesn't get worse.

  • "...It has ROBBED SILENCE from the lives of nearly 12 million..." Well said.

  • I saw this guy who had tinnitus for 16 months. He posted on his online forrum that he is committing sucide because all the treatments available such as noise masking is bs. I messaged him and i got no response.

  • Before I knew what was tinnitus, I thought that the high pitched Sounds in my head were normal.. Now it irritates me.. And now my silence is robbed by tinnitus....

  • i am 18 and i got tinnitus in my right ear. I got it mainly from the 2 ear infections in the past 2 years and from depression my doctor said

  • My left ear sounds like a tape recorder playing back dead air... all. the. time. It just never quits. Usually when outside i won't notice it, but once home - peace n quiet, i can't escape it.

  • I have tinitus, Caused by a loud noise. I never had issues with it, but now I can't stop

thinking about it recently, which makes it worse. Luckily I don't got it when I hear a bit of sound, only in my sleep It annoys me.

  • I would recommend getting ear plugs to reduce sound.

An audiologist took a silicon mould of my inner ears to make custom made ear

noise reducers. I have never made a better purchase, its a pity i did not do this BEFORE i got tinnitus. I had a ringing in my right ear for a week but was lucky to have it subside a good bit after that. I dont know the facts but i expect the ringing to get louder when Im older (Im 30 now) due to age...

  • I have had it for a couple of weeks now, it really wears you down mentally, i have it in both ears, but mostly hear it 24/7 in my right ear. Everyone always says after awhile you get used to it and don't hear it much, but what keeps you from jumping from a bridge or lunging for a cops weapon?

  • @Mike21666 people say that u do get used to it after like 1 year to 5 years. but dont let it ruin ur life. and dont think about the tinnitus, then it only gets worse

  • Mr. Shatner has started a team to support the American Tinnitus Association's national fundraiser - the Jack Vernon Walk to Silence Tinnitus. The walk has an online component that allows people to contribute and "join" Mr. Shatner's team from anywhere. You can read more about the walk or join Mr. Shatner's team at walk(dot)ata(dot)org. Then click the "find a Team" tab and click on Mr. Shatner's for more information on how to join. All money raised will be restricted for research.

  • Honestly , you guys complain TOO MUCH. Its your OWN fault you got Tinnitus and im pretty sure most of you already know that there is NO proven cure for the symptom. So stop crying about it and get used to the thing .... damn.

My ears are perfectly fine and I intend to keep them that way by NOT standing next to loud speakers at a concert or blasting music on my iPod. On the bright side your all great examples for others :)

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 Though noise exposure is the leading cause of tinnitus, head and neck injury is the second leading cause. Viruses that attach the cochlea and oto-toxic medications (of which there are over 200) and TMJ can all be triggers for tinnitus. So its not always the person's own fault when they develop tinnitus. In many cases tinnitus is preventable but not always.

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 not all is from noise exposure! I for one was actually born with hearing loss, we never even knew it until I was diagnosed a year ago and Tinnitus is hereditary, it runs in my family. The hearing loss got worse as I aged, my career wasn't help, I work around dogs which eventually bark. Your parents NEVER told you to turn down the music, you NEVER went to a concert, you NEVER used headphones?

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 Even if the iPod/headphones are not blasting, or not standing next to speakers, in the end eventually it WILL cause damage, @18 you're still young and still going through the 'it's not gonna happen to me' period in your life, it will happen unless you wear ear plugs even if you're not standing next to loud speakers, at a monster truck show or ANY enclosed area with loud noise, football games, baseball games, all of it does damage to your ears. Do avoid any head/neck injury!

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48

What an absurd statement. While you may be correct in some instances, I am now 62 and have had ringing in my ears since I was a very little boy. Last summer was my very first experience of Vertigo, and I was horrified. You just can't assume the source of this affliction is always the same, or that the course of the ailment is always the same. And it has recently been getting worse. So lighten up, stop looking the fool.

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 That statement is quite heartless. There are different ways one can end up with tinnitus. My mother battled colorectal cancer and during the process, the chemotherapy drugs caused her tinnitus. Now, she has two battles to fight. However, even if it was from loud noise, this doesn't mean people deserve this condition. "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 You have made a broad generalization. Don't be so quick to put people in boxes. My father, born in 1916 had tinnitis. He never listened to loud music etc. My brother and I have it and neither one of us own an iPod etc. and don't go to loud concerts. Perhaps there is an hereditary component in our case? Perhaps from mowing the lawn? Only open scientific study will help answer these questions. For me it is getting worse - I don't get to enjoy silence.

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48, you sound so naive and pitifully stupid. should we work to find a cure to a disease that thousands of people suffer from, or should we ridicule the mistakes that they made. besides, why would you click on a video about tinnitus if you only want to insult those of us who have it? i developed tinnitus while i was serving in Afghanistan, not sitting too close to speakers. next time, keep your mouth shut so you at least appear to be intelligent.

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 I stopped reading when you said "my ears are perfectly fine". You do not live with this and do not grasp how anyone with tinnitus will feel compelled to find an end to the maddening noises. You then go on to suggest we somehow deserve this torture and should be ashamed of our actions. Did you hear what Mr. Shatner said? Many of the people who have tinnitus have it as a result of being in warzones, having unintended accidents happen to them. Do they still deserve tinnitus?

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 Do you actually go out of your way to express such a lack of empathy? Do you torture small animals and pull the wings off of flys?? Seriously man, you are unbelievably COLD. If not all I can say is there's obviously a lot in this world you don't know. Wouldn't it then be best to just shut your mouth and OPEN YOUR MIND (& EARS)?

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 I got tinnitus after a simple ear infection. It has kept me awake for days on end and caused me to go through a nervous breakdown. Tinnitus is not always due to loud noise exposure. It's terrible how it affects your mental balance. I'm still on sleeping tablets to get to sleep because of it. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It's not always peoples fault.

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 Tinnitus can be due to many causes, no just exposure to loud noises. Some of these causes are cardio-related, others can be due to structural problems, damage due to strong viruses and so on.

In the case of Bill Shatner, an explosion on a movie set caused his -- it was not controlled properly. IE NOT HIS FAULT.

Your profile says you're only 18. You have many years left and may develop this condition yourself.

Don't think you're making yourself look better by attack people.

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 Tinnitus can occur without any apparent cause. (That's the circumstance in 40 per cent of cases, including mine.) It could happen to YOU tomorrow...in which case I hope you remember your callous words. Congrats on sensibly taking care of your ears and avoiding exposure to loud sounds whenever possible--but you may still experience tinnitus in your life...and probably will, thanks to good ol' karma!

  • Not all who have it lean against rock speakers, I apparently got it around age 2 after a high fever from mumps or else born with it.

  • @MrTheOneAndOnly48 You are incredibly rude and ignorant. I have had tinnitus since I was a child, and it was certainly not caused by listening to loud music.

  • Mine is a high pitched sound that started when i was a baby so i really don't know the cause. it only sounds when it is very quiet. as in no one talks in a library quiet

  • I think ive got tinnitus. i always hear a ringing noice in my head, im always alert and react really quickly to the slightest noices. im pretty scared :(

  • there are currently some treatments... some not so desirable, like taking benzodiapenes, that can reduce the sound, but meant for reducing anxiety. also they are not good to take long term, but some people do rather than put up with the sound. I take lipoflavonoids, over the counter. they seem to help some. also the obvious stuff like stay away from dumb loud noises, no caffeine and alchohol. hope they will have a real cure soon enough tho. as you know tinnitus sucks.

  • I've got real tinittus, it never goes away and I've had it for 7 yrs now.

Think I got it from the stupid way I used to blow my nose, covering my mouth and nose while I did it.

Good news- you do get used to it. It only amplifies if you focus on it, say to yourself 'It's here with me now, there's nothing I can do' and accept it.

I barely notice it now. Crazy when you think about it.

Some lucky bastards may even heal naturally, you could be one of them.

  • im going through hell and back with tinnitus normal noises hurt a tv on to loud makes it worse i have youtube on silent because of it . i hate it it robs you of life. hope they find a cure soon

  • The richest economy on earth with the greatest scientific minds yet still nothing.

  • for the longest time i thought the ringing sound was the sound of my brain, sounds stupid i know, however i'm thankfull i only notice it at night, or when in a quiet room. If I conentrate on the sound it engulfs me and it is quite frightening. I've always had this and sometimes i'm sad that I have never heard silence. Shatner is the man!

  • Can Tinnitus hapen from popping your ear while blowing your nose. anyway I my ear poped and later after that I tried to sleap and I heard that slight ringing and I couldnt sleap, and my ear is still ringing slightly. Do I have tinnitus?

  • @MASR4

My left ear (left for my eyes) did have a huge ringing in it, it appeard the morning I woke up, and I had it until I slept at night the same day. I was afraid, but the ringing got away when I woke up the day after. This happened a half year ago.

  • I have tinnitus, aching, fullness and objective tinnitus in my ears.

  • All doctors I’ve visited recommended me to live with my tinnitus. Where does tinnitus come from ? amalgam - antibiotics - coffee - alcohol - nicotine - drugs - stress - mobile phone - loud music - noise? First help I received after years of a doctor with the EarNoiseEliminator for treatment at home. I've bought it immediately. Result : less pain - less noise, better hearing and improved quality of life. I d’like to recommend you the EarNoiseEliminator.

  • im hearing a very soft ringing in my ears when no noise is around...do i have tinnitus?

  • hi guys My name is Marjan Belnik from Slovenia and i was fighting with tinnitus for almost 8 years and in 2011 i found a solution my life have totally changed my wife came back my kids love me again because i was alone they thought i was nutts but one men helped me and this is true you can read my story here

    ringinginear-tinnitus.blogspot.com/

  • Unfortunately, with Shatner around you can never achieve silence

  • I might have found a similar methodology to help with tonal tinnitus sufferers.

    tinyurl(dot)com(forward slash)tinnitus-tones

  • I'm 21 and i have tinnitus as well. I have had it for as long as i remembered. Maybe thats why I'm used to it, i can barely remember silence. Only vague memories of when i was young and putting my ear into a sea shell and only hearing the ocean.

  • thank you william,i had a grommett insertion ,many years ago i suffer constant noise in my left ear,i have partial hearing loss,i was told it was simular to someone coming back from a war torn region,...knights of god hear our prayer for silence

  • I tried the shower thing but still got it will be taking more showers.

  • I have had Tinnitus for my entire lifetime. I didn't go to any loud concerts when I was a child ... so dunno what loud noise could've caused my Tinnitus. I also suffer from vertigo. Tennitus can be cause by MAV, Meniere's, cervical vertigo, a past history of ear infections or taking antibiotics and other things ... not just because of loud noises.

  • My tinnitus is like a hissing sound and because I have bad allergies in the spring and summer plus sinus problems my tinnitus gets sooo loud I can't stand it. That's why I forbid myself to take naps in the daytime so at night when i'm really tired I can just sleep instantly. I've grown used to it but I wish I knew what was really causing mine..

  • @tresVOGUE, God BLESS you. I know how you feel. I am only sixteen and one night after listening to music louder than I should have (which was ironic because I am VERY cautious about music volume), my ears started ringing. Like you I hoped it would go away, but it's a month to this day and it hasn't. I hope, someday, somehow, it will.

  • I am 14 years old. I went to my FIRST school dance a few months ago. Rather than getting my first kiss or first slow dance, I came home with a persistent ringing in my ears. Hoping it would subside, I was devastated when the ringing continued, growing stronger at night. I miss, more than anything I have ever lost, the silence you are faced with, when your head hits the pillow, and you fall asleep instantly. I pray for a cure for the condition. My best to everyone ever effected by tinnitus.

  • I've got also tinnitus and i've wrote a book aout this it's called "my life with tinnitus" i gave also interviews about it you can see it at my channel

  • I feel really sorry for anyone stuck with this awful condition. I had it for about half a year before I got in to see the specialist and it turns out there was a hair in my ear that was causing the tinnitus. Now it's gone and I have my sanity back.

  • i want to ask a question to you tube viewers who have tinnitus.. they say tinnitus is caused by nose how come people dont just go deaf instead of having tinnitus its Weird usually when you damage you hearing you go deaf you just hear silent not tinnitus for example i lost my hearing while on i concert but i dont have tinnitus i just have hearing loss with no ringing noise

  • A month ago my ear popped (closed for a few seconds) with a loud beeb when i lied in bed. Then it opened with a much lower beeb. Since then its always with me (mostly in quite places)... Do you think its Tinnitus ? I went to a doctor he told me theres was a little fluid in my ears. I got nose spay and used it for 5 days but didn't help. Yesterday i went back to a doc he told me fluid was away and wait for a monthto turn back. What do u guys think ? I never listen to mp3 players dont gig much .

  • @xRuFFZx No, you just have clogged sinuses. My ears clog everyone in a while. That sound you're hearing is just your eardrum popping in or out from pressure.

If you had tinnitus, you'd know right away.

  • i've had tinnitus for a little under 2 years and its been hell. i'll never be the same person again. i would give anything to hear the quiet again. but i will say that for a while it did go alway for a few weeks i felt normal, and didn't ever think of it much. for the most part i've kind of gotten used to it.

  • Why can't doctors just remove and replace the cochlea in the ear where the damaged cells are? If they can replace a human heart, surely they can replace an ear.

  • @madtownband LOLOLOL

the heart does not require nerve connections like the hair cells

  • a good way to get rid of it is to not think about it, works for me somtimes :)

  • I have had tinnitus since I was little because of listening to my mp3 player too loud. I don't pay attention to it during the day and when I go to sleep I just listen to my podcasts to mask the noise and it really helps.

  • Please post this: For 50% of tinnitus sufferer this will work. stand in or near a shower, NOT a recording of running water. Their tinnitus will disappear during the water running. It is not like the sound of a fan which masks the noise, running water takes the noise away. This can give some people relief.

  • @mrwfraser The American Tinnitus Association also sells products in its online store that have this "shower" noise technique as well as other forms of sound therapy. ata (dot) org then click on "store."

  • @mrwfraser I have to say that there is some truth to this - I suffer from almost constant TINNITUS, to varying degrees of volume. When I wake up with it (mine is a kind of annoying "hissing" sound) and then take my morning shower, sometimes it does seem to help diminish it to some extent. Unfortunately, I can't "live" in a shower. I am also sensitive to loud noises, movies, and when I witness younger people blasting their hard rock music in their vehicles, I think, wait a few years, buddy...

  • @mrwfraser I almost fell out of the shower sleeping because (for me) this works strongly. Tinnitus is terrible...

  • @mrwfraser I've tried your suggestion of shower water and it did nothing to help rid my tinnitus. What does seem to help is using a sound frequency of around 2800 Hz for about 10 seconds, on my iPhone using a Dog Whistler App. This seems to stop the noise in my head, at least for a few minutes at a time.

  • Thank you Mr. Shatner. My tinnitus is literally driving me crazy. Your words have helped me. You say it exactly as it is.

  • I am sixteen years old and keep hearing a high pitched ringing sound all the time. From the second I wake up to the second I go asleep. I dont know what to do, I am so scared right now. I cant comcentrate on reading, writing or anything that I need concentration to do. I just dont know what to do.

  • @heihei2300 Please don't be scared (although this is a natural reaction to tinnitus). I would suggest reaching out to the American Tinnitus Association at ata (dot) org to learn more about tinnitus and visit the Patients Family and Friends section for information on treatment options. Though there is no cure for tinnitus, there are things you can do to help mitigate it.

  • massage your vagus nerve and listen to a high pitch sound-- I promise it helps me soo much!!

  • Well .. I have a question .. I was searching about tinnitus and i found in many sites that talk about this book of thomas coleman "tinnitus miracle" that make you leave the tinnitus in 60 or 70 days.. So my question is( if someone know about this book) .. This book really help? if ATA can answer my question please that w be great .. Thanks

  • @Dadedidedudadei To our understanding, that book has no scientifically backed studies to prove that it can get rid of tinnitus. We've had many people call us and email us enraged that it's being sold as a tinnitus "miracle" - There is no cure for tinnitus. That's why our organization exists.

  • i have tinnitus and think its great

  • You need to stop using the word "cure". You can't cure something that isn't a disease or even a disorder on its own. It is a symptom, typically of inner ear outer hair cell damage. This damage can't be reversed. Often the cells are destroyed and literally missing after awhile. Habituation therapy, like TRT, is effective because it doesn't pretend to be a cure. I never hear my left ear ringing any more because of the principles of TRT.

  • @rdangelo There are many researchers who believe that tinnitus can be eradicated (thus having a "cure" for it). The scientific community believes that you can cure it - Not all tinnitus is the result of noise damage to the ear - sometimes it can be caused by a head or neck injury and recent research has shown that tinnitus is a physicality (electrical signal) occurring in parts of the brain. The current sound therapies can mitigate but not eradicate tinnitus. Read more at ata (dot) org/research

  • @rdangelo It can be cured one day using stem cells.

  • @rdangelo

Wouldn't then the advances in stem cell cochlea hair cell regeneration be a cure one day? Also, tinnitus usually occurs withing the brain/auditory cortex. Lost hair cells send silence not noise into the system. The noise comes (probably) from inappropriately increased gains in auditory feedback circuits. Drugs that inhibit those gains would work, drugs that reduced the gains would work and techniques that cause neural restructuring might work.

  • I have tinnitus on my left ear and it sucks. I have loss of hearing on that ear too, is it usual? to have ear loss AND tinnitus at the same time? I realized of my problem when I was 12! (now I'm 27) at that time doctors concluded it was due to antibiotics that I was given when I was a kid and got very sick. Although I don't think it has worsen and my right ear works perfectly, it's so depressing to have that sound ALL the time + hearloss!!

  • Tinnitus can go away. i spoke to many people some had their tinniuts leave or reduce a lot after many months. Tinnitus is a symptom like an itch. Some people it never leaves? I had bad tinnitus after a few months it went down. The almost disappear, then went to a dentist who drilled too hard and now worse but not as bad as it originally did.

  • @mrwfraser There are three breakdowns of tinnitus patients - 50 million United States citizens have tinnitus - that can come and go and is usually not bothersome. 16 million have chronic tinnitus, meaning it never goes away and those folks have sought medical attention for their tinnitus. 2-3 million US citizens have disabling tinnitus - meaning that they often cannot work, sleep, enjoy favorite activities or sometimes even leave their home because of their tinnitus.

  • @ATAJD My friend, I have tinnitus and I have been through all the stages and emotions. Telling people that tinnitus never goes away is the first mistake doctors do when treating a tinnitus patient. Patients need hope and empathy. Tinnitus can go away, it can reduce. Tinnitus is a symptom and is different for everyone. My tinnitus did go down a lot. And many people I spoke to claim their tinnitus has gone down or disappeared.

  • Trick stand near or in a shower. 50% of tinnitus suffers will have their tinnitus go away while the shower is running!!! It does not mask the noise like the sound of a fan but completely stops the noise. After you turn the shower of after a few minutes the tinnitus will return. You can sleep next to a running shower or read a book next to it. You can reward yourself with durations of running water. Do not use recorded water running noise. Must be the real live noise. This will work for 50% of u

  • Guys! Im 21 years old.. I've had it since i've been.. 10? at the start I fist tought it was normal.. so I didnt care about it.. then commercials on tv told me its not OK and people actualy live a life without the sound.. So I was like. ok? cool.. so.. ah man this sucks.. I was around 16 years when I realised this. "Dont listen to high sound, you will damage your hearing!" ok but thanks for not delling me you will get a no ending PIIP in your ear. anyways.. I learnt to live with it. DONT GIVE UP!

  • I hope some of you really take it into consideration even tho it sounds stupid..it's still getting less and less and hopefully eventually will be completely gone. If this does work for anyone please let me know, and good luck to everyone suffering from this.

  • I had Tinnitus for a shot period of time and can't imagine how i'd be able to live like that for my life time. The mere thought of it scared the shit out of me. I hope this helps people. I tried EVERYTHING and only thing that ever worked for me believe it or not was sitting it a hot bath consistently for long periods of time. I don't know if it cause better blood flow or how the hell it helped me but it did..it went from a LOUD SHARP ringing to now a barely noticable pitch.

  • My tinnitus dissapeared short time ago after having it for years, after a concert.

I am so happy, but still i suffer. I cant stop thinking about the people that suffer from high tinnitus sound, i really hope you will get cured soon enough.

Tinnitus may sound harmless but its the sound of hell. Its like cancer, or being blind, and when you get cured from that, you get so happy but you still pity the other victims! I hope your tinnitus will be cured soon my friends!

  • I'm from England. My tinnitus started about 16 months ago, it just creeps up on you, it starts with a very low high pitch ( if that makes sense), when your mind is active and you are thinking etc, you dont really notice it, but it's when you have a quiet moment it screeches in your head incessantly. People tell me its coming from my ears, but it feels like its inside my head. My doctor (s) haven't been able to stop it. Very very annoying noise!

  • respect to Shatner

  • i can't stand it any more. i think i might kill myself. its driving me eff'ing crazy.

  • @smp156 There are things you can do to manage your tinnitus - please contact the American Tinnitus Association for more information and visit their website for additional ways to manage tinnitus. ATA (dot) org.

  • *sniff* I've had mine for five years now.

I don't recall how I managed to get it in the first place, but it gradually grew over the many months into a life changing monstrosity.

For those who suffer from the most serious of cases, my heart truly goes out to you and your encumbering ailment.

  • Has ATA been working to find any resolution for TMJ jaw joint disorder caused tinnitus? Nerve/blood vessel trauma, I believe? Or anything else to do with TMJ that causes tinnitus?

  • Don’t actors and stunt people use ear plugs when explosions are going to be used on sets?

The SPL db level of the explosion must have been so above 120db for a sudden short moment that pushed your hearing threshold beyond its limits! If you had ear plugs the chances are you would have gotten away with it.
