I am thinking about buying this bike. I was wondering. How well does it do in speed wise? the reason i ask is if I wanted to commute there is some highways and I;'m wondering if it can handler 65-70mph. and will it blow the motor by doing that the whole ride at that speed. any info would be great. i use to own a cbr 600 but I dont care about speed. just fun , saving money etc but need to get to point A to point B with this cc
I have a 04 rm-z 250 and my dad has the 09 crf 230L, for riding around town or logging roads, the 230 does fine, even on the single track areas we go. The only thing i can complain about is the tires are not the best for AGGRESSIVE off road use or any loose surface (shale, mud, wet roots and rocks), so if you ride more off road than on, consider some different tires, but this is one of the best handling bikes i've ever ridden and very confidence inspiring for new riders. Great bike, low price.
@MeatHookSodomist hahaha! Whatever you want to believe. Your comment was simple sexism. But hey, if it makes you sleep better, tell yourself I didn't understand it and that you're a genius. I won't mind.
You see, I'm not crying for attention, and I'm completely happy with the size of my penis. Ergo, I don't get into immature arguments on youtube.
@Marksman2oo7 Simply put, in a two stroke, the pistons go up and down once before firing and completing the combustion cycle. In a four stroke, the pistons go up and down twice before firing and completing the combustion cycle. That being said, a comparable displacement (size) two stroke is going to be faster that it's four stroke counter part. This is a four stoke. You can tell immediately by the sound. A two stroke is much louder and higher pitched while a four stoke has a deeper sound.
@ak47proshooter Yea a 125 2 stroke is more powerful but this 230 is a low maintainance trail bike. I had one and i ride a crf450r now and i can tell you those 230's are fuckin mint.
For a couple of years, I've been riding a 2003 CRF230f, and it's got electric start, not dual sport though, and recently I bought an XR400r 2002, and it's power difference from the 230f is phenomenal!
I have a 2009 and it kicks ass. I also have a suzuki DRZ400 and a suzuki GSXR 750 so dont call me a pussy. Its a fun bike and i plan on having it a long time.
I bet they up it later to a crf250l for USA. If Honda is smart. Why make a 230? So you can make it a 250! 250cc is highway legal for USA. And my wallet.
I went to Ransburg this weekend after seeing this video. I was very excited until I saw the signs saying that a permit is needed to ride the trails, and the fine is $1,000. The only two places to get the permit were many, many miles away. Surprise! Our heavy handed government blows yet another weekend!
@96JUSTIN Agreed, theres so many people out there that think that you need a 450cc+ bike to have fun! Truth is, you really dont. A bikes a bike, and a bike is fun, no matter how big or small.
on the street its okay, but you can really feel everything on the road because it has the nobbies on the tires.. i just rode the 230m this weekend because im teaching adults as well, and those tires are good for road (its a supermotard bike), but the seat height is a lot lower.
if you're looking for dual sport, i recommend the 230 L .
if you're looking to get a 230l, i suggest coming out to Honda's New Rider Program, there you can try both the 230l and m, there is also the rebel 250 and cbr 125.
That 230L is a kids bike. I have no idea why they don't sell the XR250L anymore in America. If you want a small dual sport, get an older XR250L, it will smoke the 230L and people won't make fun of you for riding it.
in all fairness jkaufman at 15 it might be a nice bike for you but saying it rips well maybe for you it does. I raced for Kawasaki uk back in the 80's on good ole 2 strokes the 125's then had more HP than that sewing machine does now so go figure
I just bought one, and I love it. It's broken in now with just over 700 miles on it. The only problem is there is a lag at about 1/8th throttle. It seems to suffocate and lose power. Then, twisting the throttle more, the power comes on all at once. I tried choking it a bit, and it gets better... but then it stalls at idle. Anyone had this problem? Thanks!
and it should be good and the stalk tires suck and like back drumm wtf is that like its a good drumm but still its a drumm and none likes the front fender hoo wat else could be addid on to thiss long list hoo ya eltric start withe no kick start ok there like that sucks but its a good bike for a biginer but not for an expearinst rider

I have 555 miles on the bike now and I went ride it the other day for about 30 miles. I then parked it in the driveway for about an hour, and when I returned to start it back up it did not want to start. So I bought it to the Dealer and they said that the Intake valve had dropped. They stated that they had never heard of that. But luckly it was under warranty. I just hope that it does not happen again.
and one more thing id love to talk to you on msn messenger about your bike,my contact is irishz@hotmail(MSN Messenger) im really intrested in this bike and if you wanna shoot the sh*t id love to hear what you have to say about it,ive got quite a few more questions as well,so hit me up if your intrested,be cool to start a chat group for all crf230l owners, talk about mods, trips, ideas ETC...
i was wondering if any owners of this bike can give me their view of this bike so far,im not intrested in somebodys race ready KTM vs this bike, this bike looks likes a perfect setup for both road and dirt more so then any other dual sport ive seen yet,im curious to know how it handled on the highway,is ride smooth with gearing setup, minimal vibration? and can it maintain speeds of say 80mph,if i was to take a 100 mile trip how do you think it would hold up considering its only 230cc...thanks
What a crappy video review!!! It's a Dual Purpose motorcycle----street and off road. Where's the street part. "Entry Level" from the female means really weak and sh*ty; even the dude was kind of embarrassed.
To all you dopes out there who say this motorcycle sucks - it doesn't. Anyone who loves motorcycling knows that ALL motorcycles are FUN to ride, no matter how big or small or what brand they are. This bike is so user-friendly that my wife and friends who haven't ridden in years get on it and have a great time. It is perfect for cruising down to the beach, to the store or light trail work. Not sayin it's a bad bike, but for most riders, they WILL outgrow it, and the engine is VERY unresponsive to upgrades, jetting, and pipe mods/replacements..
One of the bikes you'd give to jr after he's big enough to get off his 150, I'd bet.
i have a question i am thinking about getting either a cr125 or a crf250R which one should i get i do a lot of dune riding nd im not new to MX ive raced b4 on a cr85 nd im 5'8" THANK YOU!!!!
I am saving up for this bike. Also check out the new Yamaha XT250 (nicer) and the Suzuki DR200SE (older). All lightweight dualsports under 650cc and 450cc.
I like the EXC, but it's not really comparable, like apples(Honda) and oranges(KTM)LOL. One has brake lights, turn signals, review mirrors and true street and trail tires. 230cc vs 450cc or 530cc. $4400.00 vs $8500.00. The KTM is a fine Race Bike though. If I didn't have so many CRF parts I might go Orange.Maybe a KLX 250S or a DR200SE? Which one would you buy to chase parts with around the city? Anyone own these? Peace...
I had a 1983 Honda XL185 for 21 years and beat it senseless the whole time (it even fell off the back of a truck @ 45 mph) - it never failed me until the end. I wouldn't consider anything but a Honda.
Well yes ironically I agree with you in part mgbv6. I wouldn't say that I won't buy anything but a honda as that seems closed-minded to me. Honda would normally be my first choice for an off road bike, but the 230L wasn't out when I got the TW. And the TW is cheap and has a huge tire...I'm actually going to be putting a super gnarly and slightly larger atv tire on it soon and gearing it even lower(it can already pretty much climb trees). I can't wait to try the bike off road with those upgrades.
Well, I do have a Kawi Vulcan too... When you have a bike for as long as I had the 185, it rides on many a trailer and pickup truck, among other things! It's funny, I just bought a 2008 230L two days ago. I really like it, it's quite refined compared to the old ones. I'm not sure about the plastic, though...

trails, go to a 250x, or a 150f. 230 just holds to much weight for the amount of power it puts out. which much resembles the amount from a 150f.

the wr250r will spank this thing, why buy this when you can have a fuel injected 250?
Yamaha950 3 years ago
Street legal would be the only reason.

I am saving up for this bike. Also check out the new Yamaha XT250 (nicer) and the Suzuki DR200SE (older). All lightweight dualsports under 650cc and 450cc.

What do you guys think about it's competition? Remember this is a TRUE cheap street and trial. So it can't be compared to a CRF 250 X model.

get a ktm exc-r its a real race bike you can ride on the road
42speed 3 years ago

I wouldn't consider anything but a Honda.
mgbv6 3 years ago
