  • of course capriati is in the top 50 of all time. if u consider women only, she's even in the top 20. that's a fact

  • But she could beat the best player in the world in the last 8 years Serena Williams. The 1,2,3 players in the world to win her first grand slam. Serena, Hingis and Kim C for her 2nd and beat hingis amongst others at Aus 2002. FOR THE LAST TIME I am not saying she is better than Graf. I am saying I like her more. Her game and her passion. Now here is one for you.... FUCK OFF PLEASE.

  • lol

  • This is a Graf mark, tennis marks are almost as bad as Trish Stratus marks--those Madusa marks are the worst, though.

  • Nobody is saying Capriati is better than Graf - We just like Capriati and she was better to watch than Graf. Capriati not in the top 50 players of all time is a joke. As a 3 time Grand Slam winner, a former world number one and Gold medallist - she is !

  • Winning 3 slams is nothing special in history, a ton of players have won 3 or more. Anyway players in history greater than Capriati:

Dorothy Douglas Chambers, Suzanne Lenglen, Helen Wills Moody, Alice Marble, Molla Mollorey, Helen Jacobs, Kitty Godfrey, Pauline Betz, Maureen Connoly, Shirley Fry, Louise Brough, Margaret Osbourne, Althea Gibson, Doris Hart, Margaret Court, Billie Jean King, Nancy Richey, Lesley Turner, Ann Jones, Virginia Wade, Chris Evert, Evonne Goolagong, continued.....

  • Mauresmo, Sharapova, Pierce havent won 3 grand slams, havent been a gold medallist! That is 3 from that list for a start! You are obviously just biased against Capriati for some reason but I like her and that is it. Please dont message me again.

  • Maria HAS won 3 slams and she is only 22. There is more to consider than just slams won too. Mauresmo and Pierce have won many more tournaments than Capriati, many more tier 1 titles. Pierce has been in twice the slams finals and beaten Graf in a grand slam. Mauresmo has been way more consistent year to year.

Also the Olympics in tennis is NOT a big event and never was. I am a Graf fan but dont brag about her Golden Slam like some, rather just the Grand Slam.

  • Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Hana Mandlikova, Sanchez Vicario, Amelie Mauresmo, Mary Pierce, Lindsay Davenport, Justine Henin, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Martina Hingis, Angela Mortimer, Darlene Hard.

  • You are talking shite! You obviously hate capriati and thats fine but she is in the top 50 of all time and is better to watch than Graf - just think of the battles and exciting matches she has been in. I am not saying Jen is better than Graf at all, I just like her more. If she hadnt been off the tour for 3 years in the 90's and for the last 5 years she won have won more titles.

  • LOL how was she going to win titles from 94-96. She has a 1-10 head to head with Graf and 0-5 in slams, a bad losing head to head with Sanchez, a 0-4 head to head with Novotna. As for the last 5 years her best days were already behind her. She couldnt even beat Myskina and Dementieva in slams anymore so how was she going to win big titles over Henin, Mauresmo (who owns her), Serena, Venus, Davenport, Clijsters, and Sharapova. She got very lucky to win atleast 2 of her 3 slams as it was.

  • @grafgirl27 cmon luck is winning 1 slam , u still think shes lucky winning 3?

    some people

and if remember she did beat Serena, seles, davenport, hingis , clijsters, mausresmo, en route to three of her slams

    some people

  • @personify505 Lets look at the people you listed:

Davenport - ok big win. Still overall she was mostly owned by Davenport even during her peak of winning 3 slams.

    Hingis- ok big win again.

Seles- Seles was way past her prime and not a big threat to win slams

Clijsters- a 17 year old kid far from her prime.

Mauresmo- another player far from her prime years.

Serena 2001 French Open- Serena back then sucked on clay. Had never been past the quarters of a clay event. Not a big win at all.

  • @grafgirl27 for her 1st slam she got through seles, hingis and davenport the number 1, 2, 4 seeds. seles was no mug even though past her prime slow and fat. she was the 4th best.

Davenport i dnt care about the head to head, if she only beat her once , she beat her when it mattered for her !

the others u have point but they certainly knew how to hit ball and had been around for long, they wernt in nappies even if clijsters was 17.a win over serena in 2001 was big, even on clay.

  • @personify505 You say you cant be lucky and win multiple slams. Have you ever heard of Kuznetsova?

  • @grafgirl27 lol good point

though she has been to 4 slam finals so she has the ability to at least win 6 matches

and her win over serena before she captured the RG 2009 was not luck, just sheer mental strengh so she deserved that one !

  • @grafgirl27

massive LOL about Kuznetsova. it pisses me off to think that she won more slams than players like novotna, sabatini and martinez who were so much better than her.

  • The last laugh, LOL! 22 slams vs 3. Capriati will never be worthy of carrying Steffi's racquets to the court.

  • Capriati is one of the best women players of all time. If she hadn't had her meltdown at 17 or got injured at the end of 2004 she would have won more slams. Gold medal, 3 time slam champion and world number 1.

  • Capriati isnt even in the top 50 players of all time.

  • One only wonders how good Capriati would have been without the teen meltdown years. Did anyone ever hit a sweeter slice backhand than Stefi Graf? She would only come over that thing if she absolutely had to.

  • Capriati ONLY beat Steffi Graf once in her entire career. Seles and Navratilova were Graf's only real competition and perhaps Sanchez Vicario and Sabatini at a lower level but that's it.

  • Capriati definitely was NOT one of the elites of her generation. Capriati was definitely a champion but not as good as Henin or the Williams Sisters. Capriati won three slams but she avoided the BEST PLAYERS to win her three slams people seem to forget this. Capriati beat Henin and in 2001 Hingis was on her way out of the top. She also beat an inexperienced Clijsters in the 2001 French Open finals.

  • How did Capriati avoid the best players on her way to her slams? In OZ01 she beat Seles, Daveport and Hingis. In French Open 01 she beat Serena, Hingis and Clisjters. In OZ02 she beat Mauresmo, Clijsters and Hingis... these are all the best players of that era.

  • Capriati did give Serena a scare but Serena was always better she only beat serena 7 times and serena won 10 times but the only way Capriati beat serena in a slam was because at the 04 roland garros serena was still injured which led into her loss at the final of wimbledon as well, and capriati had help from the umpire to win against serena at the US,, nearly every ball on the line was called out even inside the line the ball was out, serena should have won that match

  • You conveniently forget that Capriati also beat Serena at the French Open in 2001 and then went on to win the title. Was Serena injured then? I wish all the excuses would stop. She also beat Serena at Wimbledon in 2001...

  • Sorry but JordanJames is right for once. Capriati is not one of the elite of either generation. She isnt in the league of Graf, Seles, Navratilova or even Sanchez Vicario in her first prime. She isnt in the same league as Henin, Venus, Serena, or even Davenport in her second prime.

  • Since she came back, from 2001 to 2004 (when she got injured) she was always in the semis or quarters. Serena was #1 in 2002 and never was again. But she's always a contender for the Grand Slam titles.

Jennifer is one of only 18 number ones. If she wasn't great I don't know what was she.

  • serena is number 1 this year again but only for a few weeks

  • Serena doesnt need to be number 1 to be the best, she could number 1000 and she would still be the best

  • i agree to that :D

  • @flipocb

capriati came back in 1996 not in 2001.

  • You gotta love Capriati. She showed so much personality on court.

  • capriati may have been slightly overrated in the early 90's when she was just starting (what 14 year old who could beat top players wouldn't be hyped?)

but jennifer was a fully deserving number 1 player in the world when she came back in 2001. to win her first slam, she was seeded down at 14th and had to beat seles, davenport and hingis to win it. her other slams were through similarly difficult draws. no way was jennifer a 6th or 7th type player..she was right up there with the best of them

  • @djjs91

again, capriati's return to tennis was in 1996!

  • Shame Steffi retired in 1999, when she was still playing top-class tennis. It would have been good to see her play for at least another 2 years, then we would have seen a magical Era with her facing an Adult Capriati as well as the emergence of the Williams, Henin, Davenport,Hingis, etc. Who would have Triumphed?????

  • It would have been very packed with no room in the top 10 and very challenging for the top 3 to fend off the rest. Capriati, Henin, Clijsters would have risen as normal, but I still think Graf would have found ways to defeat the rest of the tour(veterans and new girls) and fend them off. It wasn't impossible that she could have been no.1 if she had stayed on for a couple more years. Of course, that would mean she would have been uninjured.Graf held off almost 4 generations in her career.

  • Interestingly enough, Jennifer finished with a very good head-to-head against Serena (10-7 in Serena's favour). However, Jennifer seemed to bring out the best in Steffi Graf, who beat her 10 times out of 10 in ranking tournament meetings. Still, it showed great strength of character on Jennifer's part to come back all the way from nowhere and win those Grand Slam titles and to reach number one.

  • Capriati defeated both Seles and Davenport (and then Hingis) to win OZ01. She also beat Serena Williams and Hingis on her way to win the French Open in 2001. OZ02, she beat future champ Mauresmo and Clijsters to win. She may have been overhyped as a teenager, but I don't think she was overrated as an adult. She deserved all her slams and the #1 ranking.

  • Great clip! Thanks for posting. Interesting how Graf dominated Capriati- except the Olympics once lol
