While I despise RFJ Jr, he is making the argument that is brought forward by Thomas Friedman in Hot, Flat and Crowded.
The only real issue is that he is completely lowballing how much that grid would cost by a factor of 10. It wouldn't e $150 billion, closer to 1.5 Trillion.
Everything else he is saying is accurate and possible. Pick up Hot, Flat and Crowded and read it.

I have done lots of research on this topic. In fact I would recommend Thomas Friedmans new book Hot Flat and Crowded. It goes into this topic rather in depth. The number he mentions are in the Trillions.
so stop talking down to people and actually look in to it.
