Almost all of the Donkey Kong games game over screens are nightmare fuel.

When I saw this game over screen, I wondered if lava was slowly rising to kill them, since the screen turned red.

You guys do realize in whatever wacko dimension they live in, the Kongs don't actually "die" per se, but fall into a black void area which doesn't kill them. They can actually die, but they would respawn anyway.

This Game Over actually really creeped me out far more than DKC1 did.

DKC1 was depressing, with the music and DK and Diddy beaten up.

Here, it's more like...Diddy and Dixie's last moments, spent in fear and forlorn despair, right before the game implies that they get MURDERED.

I had to watch this Game Over screen all the time when I rened this game as a kid. Nolw that I take another crack on it by buying DKC2 from the Virtual Console to play on the Wii, I only made it further, but one particular level I couldn't pass. That game over screen sums up the mockery for me. It's like saying "Your never going to beat the game." But dammit, I love the game and I want to complete that love by beating it. I found hope, the 50 lives cheat. No honor in that, but it helps.

Donkey Kong 1 there is a super scary pitch black background almost as if something is going to grab Diddy and Donkey and kill them. Donkey Kong 2 they're trapped in a cell and the screen turns red...... And the finale Donkey Kong 3 the gang is in a crib in the dark and a door gets shut on on them. Pretty creepy games. That's why I tried to not die. I think Rareware is encouraging you to win the game with few deaths. Or else you get this.
