Comparing Donnell Leahy to Ashley Macisaac is like comparing Steve Vai to Slash. Both very talented, but also quite different from one another. I think a good bit of the difference lies in how formally-planned their pieces are. Leahy writes out everything (possibly because there are a ton of people in the band who need to keep up with chord changes, etc), whereas Macisaac is almost totally unscripted. I don't think either approach is easier.

I was lucky enough to see Ashley MacIsaac and the Chieftains play in Cape Breton, Ireland's best known traditional musicians playing along with some home grown talent is great.

Anyway that's cool Ashley performed with the Chieftans...what probably a decade ago? I remember seeing and hearing songs from the Chieftans on PBS back then, and thinking that the one guy Paddy (I think) sort of looked like a long lost cousin of Oasis' Noel& Liam Gallagher's mother Peggy! (And maybe he is? I dunno..lol!)
