The Spy Who Loved Me is one of the three the best 007 films ever made. First time I've ever seen Roger Moore it was in this film and that was 1991-92 and since that time he is my favourite actor. I apologise for my English.
He was asked to play James Bond for Dr. No, but he was too busy with another show, according the video "Making of Dr. No." When Sean Connery was brought up, the producers were AMAZED
@RichardElden Moore supported apartheid? I didn't know that. My opinion of him is now even higher since after apartheid in South Africa ended, it quickly descended into yet another worthless, chaotic, AIDS infested shithole region of that savage continent.
@RichardElden just stop waching old movies if you care so much about the actors personal life cause there was a time when almost every white male was racist. But if you can see past that this where different times you see the brillians of many old movies and actors.
@RichardElden well I am pretty sure that was politicaly and not rasial motivated by Roger moore. But in fact i have never read anywhere that he supported it. But he did star in three movies taking place in the apatheid. But I think its pretty clear he is not a racist. He is a UNICEF ambassador for fuck sake
He was such a handsome man wasn't he? I had quite forgotton just how good looking he was. And so courteous, humourous and kind. Quintessentially old fashioned British (but so unlike Brits abroad!! LOL!!).
Roger Moore is my least favorite Bond (except for Lazenby), but he is my favorite Bond actor's real life personality, he is intelligent and not full of himself, and always has a good sense of humour.
I always thought that Naval uniform was one of the coolest outfits in the series and Roger Moore was ice cool in the whole film. Pierce Brosnan tried to copy him in this one film for his whole duration as Bond and failed miserably.
Moore is not my favorite Bond but he is definitely likable. There was a fairly lengthy gap between TMWTGG and TSWLM. It was a similar situation to what happened between LTK and Goldeneye. There, Brosnan replaced Dalton b/c Dalton's Bonds hadn't done as well as expected. LALD and TMWTGG were also disappointments box office-wise so I've always wondered if they considered replacing Moore for TSWLM.
@jksonny for your kind information LALD 's budget was 7 million and it collected 127 million dollars worldwide. It was a blockbuster equal to golden eye(money value increased in 1993).Roger moore is and will always be better than Brosnan.
@shankar3707 Well eh, Live and Let Die was a bad example. The highest-grossing film of all time was Moonraker, until Die Another Day beat it. ;) I'm not sure if inflation rates are counted etc.
@Giradox yeah you are right . moon raker collected $ 552 million (plus inflation rate ) whereas pierce's collected $512million max (die another day).(check 007.info website).i just said that LALD, the first movie did well.pierce cannot beat moore anyway.

I love Roger Moore. He was my favourite Bond because he approached the part as one should approach life: don't take it too seriously!

There's something good to be said for all the actors who played Bond, but Roger Moore was the best Bond, in my opinion.

Roger Moore was the best Bond, he could exhibit off all the traits required for the role: suave, tough, smooth, humor, subtlety, timing, and gravitas.

Roger Moore was a "classy" Bond, with that impeccable English upbringing. Tut-tut.
Sean Connery was a more "natural" Bond, gutsy, gravel voice and more manlier looking than Moore.
