Gear drives are great but chain drive is nearly as durable and rc 46 will slay all other vfrs on track v tec rules! 137000 trouble free miles on mine!
oh yes, this is what a V4 should sound like, I have a '98 with an Arrow can, been sat in the garage for a year or two, can't wait to get it back on the road. The newer ones, and the new 1200 sound like inline-4's, i.e crap!
@ivegotwings They sound like muscle cars of the 60s - car owners pay tens of thousands for sounds like this :) Mine never fails to give me goosebumps when it's on the overrun, popping away and and you can really hear the gears driving the camshafts coming through!!! Immense bikes!!
Anyone know where I can buy the cover, preferable already painted red..but doesn't have to be, for the rear fender of my 99 VFR? Don't know what it is called, it goes over the back part of the seat.
I believe you're talking about the rear solo cowl. Just look up "solo cowl cover" and you should be able to find one eventually on ebay or something. Look in VFR forums as well.
The other day, I had one of my sons ride my 99 VFR past my house while I and some of his biker friends all listened as he went by at a slow, steady RPM. Those gear-driven cams sound so cool. Anywhere I go where there are bikers parked, I cruise by like that and watch their faces. Many of them think I am supercharged. Love it. Your video, right around 1:50 slows down to the point where you can hear the cams over the exhaust. Keep that bike!
I'm a little confused. I own a red 99 VFR. Where is the exhaust pipe in the photo? Mine is on the lower right. Your bike sounds like it might be stock, but I can still make out the sound of those gear-driven cams. Sounds like a supercharger whirring along. Love it.
You really can't see the pipe in the picture bacause it's only about 8" long and sticks right out of the header like a moto gp bike. It's something I put together after my Staintune was stolen. If you've heard a Staintune, this is twice as loud. I have to wear ear plugs or it rings my ears. It's worse with a helmet for some reason. It doesn't sound that loud in the vid because the camera was in my pocket on the opposite side of the bike so it sounds a lot tamer. Thanks for looking!
Well, too loud or not, sounds good, but why hassle it? Why not put on a Yoshimura or similar like I have? Legal, sounds good. What effect does the stubby pipe have on your torgue? Hey, but you and I are lucky, we have 98 and 99 VFRs, the best year. One of my mags I just received said they had picked the VFR, from 750 up as bike of the year eleven times!!! Hang onto it. I plan to. I'm in Alabama by the way.
It runs about the same as it did with my Staintune. It was stolen so that's why I made this make-shift exhaust. I now have a full custom undertail exhuast built for it and custom made tail light. Hopefully I'll get a new clip up soon!

Enjoyed the V4 sound.
Mine is still in hybernation ('01/BOS exhaust) but I can't wait to wake it up again when the winter is over

kaburn 2 years ago
Vtec started in 2002 switching from the gear driven cams. The body also changed to accomodate dual undertail exhausts.

Your bike looks great. I like the polished rim/s.

Thanks for the comment. The rear is actually chromed and the front is still factory black. I can't seem to find a front wheel that's chromed!
