The film is quite realistic, many choose not to believe it. Today most would go to a website called blossoms and do the work of George themselves. But the experience of the couples probably haven't changed and some of the other points of the film pointing out poor areas of the Philippines versus the rich is quite true. It's been said that the Philippines greatest export is its people. You can probably not find a ship or a hospital around the world that doesn't have a Filipino as an employee !
Good movie. Thanks for posting it. This caught my interest because I'm also going through something similar looking for a filipina wife. Been chatting online with a couple for a few years. Hoping to go there one day soon.
@fleek164 --no problem an interesting movie that the only thing that is changed is instead of writing the potential brides there are big websites devoted to chatting with them ! but the adventure of the men once they get to the Philippines probably isn't much different.
Overall, movie is good.. shows reality in the philippines way back 1991, when im only 6 years old by that time...and philippines has changed a lot now.. and law has been created for illegal mail order bride transaction..
Hi, thank you so much for this, I've really enjoyed watching it again. I'm an English guy and am returning to the beautiful Philippines next week on holiday - maybe I'll try the bars! Thanks again.
The club owner admits while he's drunk he had a great career in the war but now is depressed "pimping for assholes". He lectures the men drunkenly however probably correctly as to their fates. Lionel resurfaces with two older Filipino women. They travel back home somewhat success. Carwyn seems quite happy with Marietta however she says everything has worked out "So Far" always being cynical.
Saw this film many years ago.. Good film! I can imagine how true to life this is, not coz I know the situation, but coz I know 'people'!!!
