Also, much of the indigenous people were killed off by the Spanish. So, most Latin people have some African in their DNA, you just chose to hide it. Jessica Alba was tested also and her dad in a Mexican, and she did not have any African ancestry. There were Zambos in Mexico, so it doesn't surprise me that some may have some. But most people in the world have a touch of something, even White Americans.

The Berbers of the Canary Islands of Spain located off the coast of North Africa, were called the Guanches. Some North Africans have Black ancestry, and some don't. Most of my ancestry is from Europe in Spain though.

Both sides of my family are from Mexico. I have no native ancestry whatsoever. Pure spanish blood. I consider myself Mexican before anything though I am of white descent. Though I can certainly mix into white american society very easily bc of my appearance.. I am still Mexican with my own unique culture and upbringing. that is something special that I cherrish and would never deny to fit in. I have citizenship in both countries if this matters.
People should be what ever they want to be and adopt what ever culture they want to adopt regardless of their ethnicity. The US culture itself is a new culture.

@communismkills1 Jews are an ethnicity. Jewish is not just a religion. There are genetic markers that indicate Jewish ancestry. Most of the Jews in the United States are Ashkenazi. Those were the Jews who have been in Europe for over 1200 years and mixed highly with Europeans to the point that they watered themselves down and ARE NOW European descendents. There was also many converts of Europeans to the Jewish faith that are not genetically Jewish. These people are now the Jews of the U.S..

@IslenoGutierrez Actually, you forgot the 4% African in George Lopez DNA. Why did you omit this? Most of the Slave trade went to central and south america. Also, much of the indigenous people were killed off by the Spanish. So, most Latin people have some African in their DNA, you just chose to hide it. Be honest, you may have a Black Grand Ma in your closet like George Lopez.

@cjfl1962 Just because George Lopez may have had some African ancestry, does not mean most Mestizo have it. Jessica Alba was tested also and her dad in a Mexican, and she did not have any African ancestry. There were Zambos in Mexico, so it doesn't surprise me that some may have some. I don't have Black African ancestry, but I do have a touch of North African ancestry, because my ancestry is from Canary Islands, Spain. But most people in the world have a touch of something, even White Americans.

@IslenoGutierrez Regarding Jessica Alba, all Latin countries went through whiting effort where they brought in Europeans after slavery ended in an effort to off set the African population and remnant of the indians. Her family may have come to Mexico after slavery ended. U mentioned your North African ancestry. Arabs invaded and took North Africa, as a result African women in North Africa were used as sex slaves by them, so many North Africans also have some black African in them.

Now to address what you commented on, Europeans were not "brought" in to offset any Black or Amerindian population. Europeans emigrated to the Americas for a better way of life, opportunities to own land, some fleeing religious persecution as well as government. Maybe the reason that Jessica Alba did not show any Black ancestry was because maybe her family was from a part of Mexico with no Blacks.

@IslenoGutierrez I am a mixed person, yes I have Black, European and a small amount of native American. What I'm saying is it has been my experience that people tend not to acknowledge that they have Black in them. They brag about being half Irish, Half Indian as example, but would never admit that they have that "Black Grandma" in the closet that Dr. Gates spoke of. But, again there is only one race, that is the human race and we are all the same.

@cjfl1962 Yes, I did mention that I have a touch of North African ancestry, which would be Berber to be exact. The Berbers of the Canary Islands of Spain located off the coast of North Africa, were called the Guanches. Some North Africans have Black ancestry, and some don't. Depending on the region and the family. In the Canary Islands Blacks did not co exist there. So I know I don't have Black ancestry, but I do have African ancestry. Most of my ancestry is from Europe in Spain though.

@cjfl1962 I have a touch of North African ancestry only because my ancestry is of the Canary Islands of Spain, in which the Canary Islands were a colony before it became an actual part of the country of Spain itself. Mainland Spain does not have North African admixture like Canary Islands. Mainland Spain is European like France. But Canary Islanders are like 75% Spanish and 25% Berber, but we are considered White.

All this chasing your "whiteness" is just another way of making yourself feel superior to others, white people are good at doing this. I suggest you do your DNA, and find out what is really there instead of speculating, you might get a surprise, like George Lopez but at least he is willing to admit that 4% Black, while many try to hide it.

@cjfl1962 Also, most Amerindians were killed off from disease, not war. But many were bred into the Mestizo, Zambo, and Pardo races. Some people tend to try and make the Spanish look so bad, but disease and race mixing cut down the Amerindian population mostly. Mestizo is the largest race in Latin America, so the Amerindians live on in them as well as the Spanish.

@IslenoGutierrez I think, due to slavery and the killing off of Amerindians in south and central america, most people down there is you did their DNA would like Hugo Chavez, reflect some African. Spanish masters and African slaves is was what made up most of the population, so how can that equal Mestizo. I guess, due to racism, Mestizo sounds better than being referred to as someone with African ancestry.

@cjfl1962 No, I'm sorry but although there may be some who have White, Amerindian, and Black ancestry, there were many places where Blacks were not in great numbers, so the people are mixed European and Amerindian. The Majority race in Latin America is Mestizo, in which I sure a sizable portion may have some African ancestry, but the majority of the Mestizos do not.

@BertoV Hola Tito, I'm a White Hispanic. The largest "race" in Latin America is Mestizo, but followed by White. Most Whites in Latin America are middle to upper class and don't need to emigrate to the U.S. for work, so Americans don't see White Latinos. The Mestizos and Amerindians do because they're poor. Now, the Americans mostly see the Mestizos who are mixed race Amerindian/White, but tend to look more Amerindian in appearance. The American Whites and Blacks see this as different.

Latino by blood and language are Italians direct line from latin Roman Empire. Then you have Spanish, French, Romanian....etc.
People in South and Central America speak European langauge and have mixed blood with natives....not very "Latin".

@communismkills1 Turkish are not Nordic, they are Mediterranean. You are confusing Nordic with White. Mediterraneans are White too. There are dark Whites and light Whites. Nordics are light Whites, because they evolved in colder climate than dark Whites who evolved in warmer climates. The U.S. Whites are mostly Nordic-Northern European vs. Southern Europeans like Spaniards, Italians, Greeks, and Portuguese. But there are White Americans that are of southern European descent like myself (Spain).

@communismkills1 Arabs and Indians are Asian Caucasians, but White people are European Caucasian. Turkish people are European Caucasian. They are Mediterranean, yes, there are some Turkish people that are mixed with Arab, but there are also Turkish people who are not Arabs, but are more European. Turkish people are diverse in different areas of Turkey. Jews on the other hand are so watered down with European Dna, they are considered White people. Many Jews are European converts.

@mastercheff1216 you make much more sense than anybody. I started thinking about that a few months ago. Technically, latino's are partially white because their ancestors come from spain, portugal and other latin european countries and all europeans are white. I guess it's just a matter of how WHITE latino's are because they have mixture from africans, natives, asians too. But it gets confusing because society makes it seem like latino's are something totally different from their white ancestors

@mastercheff1216 and from all their other ancestors. like they have to have recent white mixture (first, second, etc. generation) to be considered white, & the same goes for any other admixture they have. I know latino isn't a race but most latino's have almost the exact same heritage so it kind of doesn't make sense to group them as white, black, etc.

Now, Mestizo is the largest "race" in Latin America, followed by White, then Black and Mulato, then Native American, Asian and Arab. Now, the "race" that the U.S. describes as "Hispanic" are the Mestizos. In Latin America, Latinos are everyone from Latin America whether they are White, Black, Mestizo, or Asian.

@mastercheff1216 The classification of latino's is basically a way for people to feel superior to one another like they do with the classification of other races and ethnic groups. I mean, does it really matter what country or race we come from? We're all human. And it's quite sad that mixed people (like first generation) have taken up this superiority complex as well. Maybe some of what I'm saying doesn't make sense, I dunno. I'm just formulatting my own thoughts about this topic.

@mastercheff1216 I also wanna add that society takes skin color into consideration too. Sometimes, people are automatically grouped with the race or ethnic group they most resemble regardless of how much or how little ancestry they actually have from that particular racial or ethnic group.

Both sides of my family are from Mexico. I have no native ancestry whatsoever. Pure spanish blood. I consider myself Mexican before anything though I am of white descent. Though I can certainly mix into white american society very easily bc of my appearance.. I am still Mexican with my own unique culture and upbringing. that is something special that I cherrish and would never deny to fit in. I have citizenship in both countries if this matters.
