While watching slideshows of pictures of car wrecks has never specifically interested me, this video led me to at least 10 others. It slowed down the process of leaving this comment, and the focus seamlessly shifted from academia to entertainment. It literally took me a long time to share my thoughts on YouTube. Longer than it would have if suggested videos weren't so easily accessible. Another 20 minutes wasted. Another victim of the most distracting car wreck of all time.
Watching a video where its only substance is perpetuated pictures of car wrecks only reminds me of how YouTube is the virtual version of just that- a car wreck. We are all slowing down to watch everything. And when you've grown up in a culture where everyone does the same, so much so that it results in traffic (views!), it's hard to imagine the point at which we can eventually speed up.
