Jeez. I think you guys might be just a tad harsh. I won't say she did perfect, but of course she won't do perfect because she's not who I think is perfect for the role. But I think she did adequately well. You can't seriously tell me you thought Rosario Dawson did better in the film. And even then, she was recorded, meaning she had multiple chances to get it perfect. Vanessa did it on stage, which is a bitch. And even then, if you still want to disagree, go ahead. Just remember, that's not you.
Yes, Rosario is a far better Mimi, in terms of acting and singing at least. I was psyched for V-Hudge in the role because her looks remind of a young Daphne. But Rosario was gracious enough to give Vanessa props for getting up there, so I will do the same :-)

@PhantomRaia7 yeah I bought it a couple of months ago and I watched the filmed broadway version here on youtube and i enjoyed both. I mean for the film they record the voices in the recording studio and then place them over the top but still i enjoyed it although they did miss a couple of songs out and it is understandbale some of the smaller songs were made into dialouge :)

But didn't hurt their reputation.

Her name pretty much brings in a large crowd who will root for her no matter what. It's obvious why NPH had her play this role. Which she was DRASTICALLY unprepared for.
Which is a Shame because I was rooting for her to silence her nay sayers. However that wasn't the case apparently. Oh well BLNT

also, she got the verses the wrong way round at the end so she felt the need to sing the same verse twice. if you are not a musical theatre singer/actress, then please save us the cringes and DO NOT TRY SINGING RENT, which is a pretty hard musical. it does no good for your reputation either Miss Hudgens, i actually used to think you were a good. opinions changed? i think so..

@Porcelainfacex3 Actually you would be surprised what it could do for your "rep" granted this was horrible, and granted she pretty much tanked, you'd be surprised how many directors are seeing this as "someone who is looking to get out of her disney status". A LOT of famous actresses and actors who started out in these sort of roles. have branched out with the help of broadway. And trust me when I say this a LOT of them were bad in their roles. But didn't hurt their reputation.

@Porcelainfacex3 You'd be surprised to see how "forgiving" hollywood is. Because in the end, it's about bringing in a crowd and the "big bucks". In fact it pretty much got her name out there beyond HSM. Again not saying she did GOOD but none the less, it got her name out there.
As far as her being "Good" is concerned? You honestly thought she was "Good" at one point? Sweetie. She's a ballad singer. To be in broadway, you have to be more than just a ballad singer.

But as far as her "reputation" is concerned (if you can call it that) as long as she's a cash cow, her "rep" is pretty much untouchable. Despite giving a bad performance.
Unless she does something drastic like commit murder or rapes a dog...or something really horrid.

Remember that little photo scandal she had three or four years ago? Yeah that was WAY worse than giving a shitty live performance. And guess what? The third crappy HSM movie was a HUGE success.
