@RedAppleAnimations the first chechen war had almost nothing to do with islam, it was all about independence for their people. they were more secular back then how the rebels are today. infact, the chechen goverment gaurenteed freedom of religion and fought against islamists that were trying to implent a islamism and sharia law in 1998.

@mishacol but you have to agree because at that time all of the former USSR republics were getting independence, I mean 1991, that is when Chechnya started its policy, and the process is inevitable. Chechnya was a battleground to show other Russian republics that there is no way anyone else will be independent without war. Russia would fall apart like a sand castle if Chechnya would become independent.

@tom00440 Chechnya was always Russia. Ever since it became Islumic in the 1800's there was a minority that wanted independence instead of choosing to move they began warring with Russia. Stalin made things worse and Chechen's can't get over it - they tend to think everything happened to them instead of realizing Stalin impacted ordinary Russian citizens too. Then the Cold War ended in 1991 and they thought they could secede just like the rest.
@tom00440 However the rest were Soviet satellite nations that were never part of current Russian Federation states so while they were allowed by the new constitution to do so Chechnya was not. @tom00440 Because to give independence to one breakaway region would not only go against the constitution and Russia's thousand year history but also create the sort of instability that you wish you had not even unleashed. Russia is now economically growing, militarily strong and tolerant (but don't take it for weakness). Chechnya goes first, next there will be more that want the same and sooner or later with Russia's region broken up nuclear stock piles gets in the hands of terrorists.

@mishacol but you have to agree because at that time all of the former USSR republics were getting independence, I mean 1991, that is when Chechnya started its policy, and the process is inevitable. Chechnya was a battleground to show other Russian republics that there is no way anyone else will be independent without war. Russia would fall apart like a sand castle if Chechnya would become independent.

@tom00440 Chechnya was always Russia. Ever since it became Islumic in the 1800's there was a minority that wanted independence instead of choosing to move they began warring with Russia. Stalin made things worse and Chechen's can't get over it - they tend to think everything happened to them instead of realizing Stalin impacted ordinary Russian citizens too. Then the Cold War ended in 1991 and they thought they could secede just like the rest.

@tom00440 However the rest were Soviet satellite nations that were never part of current Russian Federation states so while they were allowed by the new constitution to do so Chechnya was not. That would be like California seceding America because it is now majority liberal. If you don't like it, move but don't take the land with you that was the point the Russians made. But instead of peace Chechens opted for terrorist option claiming they were forced to that point - BULLSHIT!!!

@tom004 So when the Russians sent their own guard to cool the situation the Chechens began amassing their people for a war noone wanted. The first Chechen war was brutal, Russians were unprepared and were constantly being ambushed. They soon found out how unmerciful the Chechens were and it was time to put that dog down. So the Russians sent an army to Grozny to cut it off. With Chechen much higher loss vs Russian troops - the public of Russia opted again for diplomacy. Ceasefire was negotiated.

This was enough and a 2nd campaign started. This time the Russians were prepared and with the Beslan massacre in 2003 Russians were out for blood, vengeance and ended a ten year war in less then 3 months. World opinion turned against Chechnya and now the rest are hiding in the mountains like cowards. Still planning for more terror attacks.

But all it takes is a few individuals to spoil that for the rest. Now these individuals are being hunted down like dogs. Grozny is now mostly rebuilt beyond recognition there was ever a war and Chechens are returning to a norm. They are tired of war and so are the Russians. It is time for peace.

@tom00440 Because to give independence to one breakaway region would not only go against the constitution and Russia's thousand year history but also create the sort of instability that you wish you had not even unleashed. Russia is now economically growing, militarily strong and tolerant (but don't take it for weakness). Chechnya goes first, next there will be more that want the same and sooner or later with Russia's region broken up nuclear stock piles gets in the hands of terrorists.

@valiosubaru chechens have strong firepower because Chechnya was the part of USSR. USSR helped Chechnya with weapons and training their men. USSR didn't know that chechens would be backstabbers. So without USSR chechens would be nothing more than peasants. Also tell this dude that strong and brave warriors don't behead tied up 18 years old conscripts, don't blow schools with children in it.
