@wizzie47 well of course Paris is a clusterfuck, but any large city is. From a motorcyclist perspective the French are by far the best on the continent.
Hello, you could explained me what you please say in the video because I am French and I anything am not understood with your video but I am curious to know what to think you of France. With and for information if you to roll on the French road made bus attention of the times the gendarmes hides and you catches when you do one infracions with the highway code!
SHAME ON YOU FUCKING ENGLISH ...WHEN U COME IN FRANCE YOU PLAY THE FURIOUX DRIVER IN OURS ROADS......FUCKING ENGLISH YOU ARE YOU GOT NO RESPECT .....I SEE THAT ALL THE TIMES ...ENOUGH !!!!
You should come to ROMANIA, see the Carpathians, go to Dracula's castle, enjoy the mountainside, it's great, check it out, come in my region and go to all the monasteryes ( we have a lot of èm in Moldavia- North-North East). Send me a message if you're interested.
I rode down to Monaco through France shortly after I passed my test in 2008 and I have to say it was the most amazing experience for me. Courteous drivers who would almost crash their cars into a ditch to let bikes past, 2 lane motorways hardly ever with any traffic on em, The Aires (picnic areas you refer to and some have showers), and in 2000 miles I saw 1 section of roadworks about 100m long. D roads are amazing and the Millau Viaduct is incredible as is the Gorges Du Tarn. France = Ace!
we Greeks hold that place for worst drivers. I believe we are close to Indians, only live on the European continent. have you seen how the Indians drive??? multiply it by 10. No respect for the motorcyclists or other drivers, and its sad cause its a really nice country to drive through. Hopefully (or not) you ll see it in one of your next trips
foska, the greek ride/drive FAST, but beatifully, somehow organised!... i mean, outside cityies, rearly see someone under 120 km/h, but when i went there i never touched the horn on mi bike and nobody cut my off in 7 days of riding. i like the greek traffic, fast and safe :D
I have Travelled all over Europe and i can agree that the French are the most motorcycle friendly drivers i have ever seen. I love France its a fantastic country ...
ever try going round the ar d'triumph (dunno if i spelt that right)? its supposed to be crazy. you shoud do a video on americans, that would be fun for "us yanks". just 1 thing: for the love of god stay out of alabama, every american stereotyp is only and often true in alabama. otherwise, do it, i would love it. washington state or oregon are closer to the climate of britain than, say, southern california
found it. looks like nobody on it had a very expensive car..went round three times? how many times did you get hit? should apply for the record of "most times around the arc without any damage"
I LOVE driving in Paris - it sorts out the men from the boys. The rule is "worry only about what is in front of you" - everyone does this, and it works fine. (But it's true that if you do fall out of the flow, you ain't getting back in easily!).
And Italians are not great derivers - they are undoubtedly the most dangerous in Europe (not sure where this silly romantic idea that "they are crazy but good drivers" comes from...)
Apparently the high number of fast food restaurants on the highway was cited as on of the reasons most states are getting rid of their highway rest stops.
Every time i go back to the UK to i make sure to get a round of fish and chips in, normally a doner-kebab too. Other than that i rekon english food is crap.
Lastly (I know I've written too much) they NEVER give you way, I was trying to get out from a minor road and turn into a highstreet (champs-elesys again), I was waiting for almost 5 minutes before i squeezed myself in between some cars moving slowly, so anyway, I'm never going there by car again, the sightseeing is wonderful though, and svengalie, I'm a big fan of your videos, keep them coming and ride safe :)
My cabbie explains to me, "If there is an accident here, each driver is considered equally at fault. This is the only place in Paris where the accidents are not judged. No matter what the circumstances, insurance companies split the costs 50-50. In Paris, a good driver gets only scratches, not dents."
Furthermore, their driving on the motorways is even more scary, their trucks/lorries drive either on the fast lane or on the middle lane, and when I was making my where there on friday morning, it was raining heavily, which lowered visiblity, had to either flash the trucks or undertake safely and quickly. They are rude when it comes to giving them way, never say thank you (in britain, usually motorists/cyclists wave with their arms, or flash the hazard lights for a second or two, not in paris
Coencidence(spelling) or not, I just went to France, Paris on friday for the weekend and came back last night, I went by driving with my friends and where do I start? Their driving is scary, changing lanes without signaling, the freaking roads in Paris (champs-elesys, spelling again) has no lines for the lanes, which put me on a sort of high alert mode, specially after getting involved with alot of motorists cutting me up without signaling or any signs of overtaking
Oh, i've been to the somme before on a battlefield tour in France and Belgium, you should really check out Ypres and the Menin Gate and the last call they do its a weird atmosphere..Good vid, not so keen on the french but hey
I had heard bad things about the French growing up, but when I went over for the first time on my motorbike earlier this year I couldn't have met nicer people.
Their driving was amazing. In the correct lane, using indicators, overly aware of motorcyclists and politely giving space when they could. Even off the road, TWO people in the space of two days, pulled over as I was reading a road map to see if I needed help, then just said "follow me", turned their cars around & drove 20 miles to show us
last time i stopped at motorway services, luckily there was an M&S food place, nice sandwitch, sausage roles, juice and chocolate sponge things. very nice to eat, i would never eat a burger out of a fast food place to risky, at least M&S is quality, fair enough if i ate it everyday i would put on weight, but for what i needed at that time, it was brilliant , more M&S on the motorway please!!!
lol i hate english drivers.. was going up the M1 (on my 125 cc bike) and it was doing 70 mph VERY happily, i was shocked.. but it was the one day that.. the lorries stayed on the left lane.... center 2 lanes were pretty much clear.. and the overtaking lane was chocoblock with twats doing 60... not over taking anyone!!?!?!?!? Where is the logic... WHERE?
on a positive note, I love the new ending to your videos =]
Well you have to distinguish between Good driving, and polite driving, I can name you plenty of people that are polite, but still are bad drivers. I think that italians are the best drivers, they are probably not the most polite, that's for sure, but as far as skills, since everybody throws themselves in front of you and there are scooters and MCs zipping around everywhere, they have to be twice as attentive on the road than the average european driver. Polite is far different from good driving
Australia I guess has both the service stations with a fast food outlet attached and many recreational/picnic/rest areas along our highways. Doesn't seem to help the obesity issue much though.
I for one enjoy taking a jog around a park every couple of hours on a ride.
In most restaurants in europe (bar the UK) they include an extra 10% or 15% to the bill as a tip... mosty places this isnt optional and evan the visa machines add it automatically
dg4rez - you succeeded in sounding very ignorant. French people, like all Europeans, are used to employees being paid a living wage, not exploited as they are in the US, so we sometimes forget the tip. Sure, we should indeed realise you guys live the way we did in the 19th century - so please forgive us our errors... just like we forgive you for shouting or wearing shorts or not knowing how to hold your knife and fork in our restaurants...
I totally agree re: the French driving skills - just on another level to the UK in terms of observational skills and consideration for other road users. Queuing is a uniquely British past-time - we are just so much better at it than other nations ;)
I've done 1000s of miles driving to Poland, Romania and other Eastern European countries and all I can say is that the UK drivers are the most polite in Europe, like flashing to let you out etc. Whereas in Germany I've had my car rammed(no accident and police couldn't trace the number-yer right) I've had loads of trouble being solo in a right hand drive car in Germany as they instantly know you're from the UK and so cut u up etc. French have never been a problem whilst in my car, rude otherwise
Until you check the statistic and see that every day 3 bikers are killed on German roads. And the roads in Germany are pretty bad, especially the side roads: narrow, twisty and very damaged. I couldn't believe it, but in Slovenia we have better roads (and ours are abysmal...).
If the roads are bad the drivers must be even better to manage..?
But when saying that, compared to the Norway (where I live) the German b-roads are better than our main roads... So I don't think that the roads are bad in Germany.
Hehe im french! ....well actually French Canadian, but still, here in Montreal, and in the province of Québec, I think we are the worst drivers in all North America, believe me, people here are BAD drivers! And the roads here are crumbling. it's dangerous to ride your bike here!
i think that most of the frenc in the south are rude to turists. They understand you but wont answer or just ignore you if they see that you are not french (and i do speak french)
French running away? You obviously have no clue of history. Or do you perhaps mean the Italians who have militarily (politically is a completely different matter) lost every war and who are brave only against unarmed, helpless civilians, while complete cowards against trained, armed soldiers?
No,i mean they let the Germans take Normandy and we lost alot of men to get it. Italians are also just as bad.And how much of a life do you have, you must have gone down about 4-5 pages just to find my comment?
So you say they are great in cars?! =D Have you seen their cars?!?! They're all damaged in som way! Dents in the body are like a normal thing down there.. where in every other contry it's an example of mistreating your car! =P Hahaha! I've been in paris, I tell you that all unexpensive and regular cars had dents in them.. LOL!
French have a different way of thinking than the rest of the world. In France the car is not a status symbol and even well-off people drive small, old cars... simply because they don't care about how they look, only that they get them where they need to go. The French are very intelligent and progressive (are also the most cultural nation in the world) and other nations can hide from them.
Hahaha. I just came home from a Walmart trip, which greatly influenced that comment of mine. But I am also starting to fall victim in this obesity thing, I'm getting kinda hefty! Haha, it's time for me to take better care of myself. But yeah, I hope more people in America start to control theirselves.
And thank you very much, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving as well!
Dude i know what you mean about the walmart people as i call them. Wow some of them you just got to wonder like how they got to be 350lbs. Yea i dont have the 6 pack or anything like that i have slight chub but nothin compared to the majority of the people here haha.
I'm polite and knowledgable in and out of my car. But then, I'm not french, I just always lived there, so.
The one thing you definitely are right about and I can't (genetically I suppose) get used to is their inability to queue :þ.
It's not just about sliding in front of you, e.g when there are n spots to queue for, there are m queues forming with n < m. Obviously this has to resolve, somehow.
As the great Al murry say's " we have rules. If we didnt have rules, where would we be?? France" ha ha Not sure about the drivers, but the roads are 1000x better then UK roads.
Sven gave you a "left-handed complement". I know, it doesn't sound like a real complement, but it's the best that an Englishman can do for a non-Englishman.
Why are roads brown ?

I miss the European highway system. Get out of the left lane America!!

Americans drive in the right lane...?

I meant to say that when your driving faster than a car in the left lane, they never get over for you. So you end up passing them in the right lane.

Oh also no problem man and thank you also!

Sven gave you a "left-handed complement". I know, it doesn't sound like a real complement, but it's the best that an Englishman can do for a non-Englishman.
