@BaseballDaysofYore Often stuff like this was common on cable systems as well as there was often a channel like this on the dial that was nothing but text and music.
I remember when WCCO-TV first went 24/7 and showed continuous news, sports and weather throughout the wee hours of the morning. In addition to the station IDs at the top of the hour, there was national news from Reuters as well as local news and sports. The weather was always on the bottom of the screen.
This type of programming has become obsolete since a lot of CBS affiliates carry Nightwatch or infomercials.

surprised all-night scroll/AP wire stuff like this was around in '79.
