Its sad... Music media cares more about what lady gaga is doing or Justin Beiber then Joe ever did. They should be honoring today to remember a true legend! Joe Public!
The people of the world need to unite and declare war on the international banking cartels who have raped our countries, received trillions in taxpayer bailouts and are now asking us to pay more taxes to them and receive less. We need to stand up and take what is ours from the ruling elite and the rothchilds and the 13 families controlling the world. We are the 99%. ok guys, every freakin punk video i watch there is an arguement about what is punk and what is not...lets just setle it. the clash are the greatest punk band of all time...is green day punk? no. were they punk at one time? yes. just accept the fact they were punk but can never come close to the clash and let it go..
There are lots of things to be grateful for in life. We all have our own private joys. I will always be happy that I got to see The Clash four times (all with Topper at drums).
Actually, I think you'll find that it was the "Give 'em enough rope tour" . The album was released in November 1978 and I remember seeing them at the Music Machine in Camden. That must have been very late 78 or early '79 because I remember getting the album the day it was released, when I was at Uni in Leeds.
VloggingToNoOne, The Footage is from the Sort It Out Tour Oct-Dec 78. You can date it by the flag backdrop that was used on this tour. I saw them at Middlesbrough Town Hall on 17/11/78 on the very same tour.
This is a wonderful song, which I've said before. Quintessially English, based on English values, which alas, are fast fading. As Blitzkriegpunk said earlier, The Clash encompassed all that was good about the punk movement, the raw excitement is evident in every Clash performance. I always remember Joe Strummer as he was then, not like he would be now. We are punks forever. GB
To all of us old punks who there and remember those times when we were the kids the clash always were and always will be truly loved because they were ours and nobody elses...................................
there's a reason the fucking media polyglot monster doesnt put bands like this on tour anymore - its not an accident. JUSTIN BEAVER FUCKER is on top, because this is a fucking matriarchy we're living under, given to us by a narcosis squad of old corporate farts. Joe Strummer said rock music was there to remind you life was worth living. There is a lot of the new generation that's trying to play instruments on a stage, so SOMEONE should succeed. They still need a kick in the nuts, though.
so so negative, bands are out there, giving a 100% every show, you just need to look harder. i've no idea why every music page you go on you see someone spouting off about that little publess canadian or yank, whatever he is, im not even gonna mention his name.... but that doesnt help matters much at all.... even by me typing about him now..... wish we could go on to a groups video and not have to read about that groomed puppets name !! its easil ignored u know !!!!
Im 16 and LOVE the clash, and lets face it, most kids today don't even know who they are.
Instead of saying how much Billie Joe is a rip off,how about saying he's keeping the clash legacy going and getting younger people into this kind of music.
I don't think Billie Joe and Green Day are keeping the Clash legacy going at all. Green Day is a Pop-Punk band, which has grown to be a much different genre that doesn't really share the same foundation as classic punk such as this.
I think the hate comes from Billie Joe acting like he's the same as this, but it's clear he can't hold a candle to it. Unfortunately, most kids these days are missing out because they don't really know what real punk is or who The Clash really were.
@LNA3igD Of course Green Day and The Clash aren't similar in their music style. Everyone was saying Billie Joe is copying Joe Strummer and what not. What I meant was that Green Day will do Clash songs, and talk about them alot of the time. And for kids who have never heard of The Clash, they'll probably be like, oh hey, lets go check them out.
That's what I meant by getting younger people into it.
@AshleyRox14 I can see what your saying, but the main issue here (in these comments) isn't what Billie Joe might be saying about The Clash but what he does and how he acts like something he's not.
@LNA3igD I agree with AshleyRox14. I'm 17 and Green Day got me into punk and by citing one of their influences as the Clash they got me to delve into old fashioned english punk, which I now love and I recently bought one of the Clash's albums. In the later years Green Day have really changed their tone into a more pop-punk sound but their older stuff is excellent.
Im going to settle this here and now. The reason we cant hear Joe's guitar on most clash songs is because he is using a fender telecaster, which is a fantastic guitar with weak sound, and he's using a VERY powerful amp, so his guitar is like a midget in a parade of giants in comparison to micks guitars which are powerful guitars with powerful amps. Now if Joe used say, an actual fender amp we would hear his guitar much more.
Please copy paste to as many Clash vids as possible, you know y!
Ok, lets get this shit sorted out once and for all, THIS song and others like sweet chariot and MANY other songs (that for some reason people think are irish ) were ENGLISH Protestant interpretations of the changes that where occurring during the ENGLISH Reformation (I.E THE LEVERS THE SHAKERS etc...), Which were the taken up by the ENGLISH settlers who then created what is now known as the US which is fair enough. But what gets me is when OTHERS get away by stealing what is not theirs.TRUTH
@winggoddess Yeah 'when johnny comes marching home' is an american version the melody taken from the earlier song 'Johnny I hardly knew ya'. So either one I suppose. This is one of the coolest melody's ever written.
@jcdixon97 oh. when i looked up "johnny i hardly knew ya" in youtube, i only got modern versions with electric guitars and stuff, so i thought it wasn't the right song.
Who else other than Mick Jones could arrange this old chestnut into a rock and roll classic? Strummer took this song into the stratosphere with this performance. "Give 'Em Enough Rope" is so undervalued by Clash fans. I still love the album, warts and all. The live versions of the songs are fantastic. Sandy Pearlman did what he wanted, but the songs were better than he was at the controls.
@bubs7569 There are good bands today but they don't have to touch! Clash, Lurkers, Killjoys, Ramones, Misfits! Those band had the touch, the attitude and style! @PBANDSNOW Good luck mate - only thing is - to approach Strummer you got to be true to yourself, to the people and NEVER compromise for the sake of a few bucks
If there were more Clash fans in the US then this country wouldn't be in such a fucking mess! Can you imagine a hundred million people with bullshit detectors keen enough to call out the hypocrisy that's everywhere today?

If there were more Clash fans in the US then this country wouldn't be in such a fucking mess! Can you imagine a hundred million people with bullshit detectors keen enough to call out the hypocrisy that's everywhere today?
