  • Is it just me or is mostly everyone watching this video thinking "Ah, the 1890's, what beautiful times. Today's society is shit compared to back then..." but i wonder, didn't people in the 1890's used to say the same thing?

  • The men with rifles at 1:10 of this clipping are not Americans....but Boer soldiers.

They appear on the cover of Thomas Packenham's book, "The Boer War".

    What gives ?!

  • What´s the name of this song? who plays it?

  • that pic of the two guys with mustche and the train is from france

  • man i wish there was a way to travel back in time and see what was like to be in those times.

  • Yea, the gay 90s before the word was stolen by the homos

  • @odanak100 Homosexuals never stole the word, they were always called gay. It's not like they chose it.

  • People called 1890s the 90s.

  • @sega31098 Yes back then now we call the 1990s the 90s and we call the 1890s the gay 90s.

  • @ilove1994

Wonder what we'll call the 1990s by 2090.

  • @sega31098 I love the 1800s i wish i had a time machine then i could met john mcgraw wee willie keeler and Ty Cobb and cy young and albert spalding

  • Do you agree guys that, crimes today are higher that the past?

  • @Haggletoe No remember Al Capone.

  • @ilove1994 crime rates were the highest in the 1980s & 1990s. as a percentage of the population, that's when they peaked. they've been in a decline since 1999, and today the crime rate is no worse than it was in 1968. i don't know about anything before 1960. think of this though: capone would be out of business today, as he made most of his money and built his criminal empire bootlegging liquor during prohibition.

  • @Haggletoe no.....there's more people today so the numbers looks high but the % is still the same.....

  • @Haggletoe I think sometimes it appears that way because we have so much more exposure to news and media now a days. Bad crime has always existed, in back in biblical days...The difference again is the info that we are exposed to now...Back in olden days society didn't consider things like: child abuse, domestic abuse, pedophilia, etc, crimes...also people got away with more because Cops were jokes and there were no forensic teams or crime labs back then.

  • @Haggletoe I definitely do. Sure they had an outlaw or two back then but nothing like they do today. Look at the news, listen to police radios. You will really see how bad this world has become. I know your post is old, but I just wanted to say this.

  • This was just great! A wonderful time to be an American! They probably though everything had already been invented!New wonders all around them and the new century just beckoning!Really must have been the 1st time ppl have the time and money to enjoy themselves..being off the farm!Priceless! Thanx!

  • Indded why do you think the 1890s are called the Gay 90s because almost evrayone had lots of money & was rich the 1890s where also a time with a load of new inventions too the blacks dident evan owan sent the railroad people where poorley eggacated and they died evrayday same with the factory kids but with the people at the time who had lots of money could enjoy themselfs & the kids who came from rich familys could go to school & aford electtressity in there homes to glad you liked it.

  • @ilove1994

it was good times ...only if you were white...

    and rich....

most kids worked in slave like conditions in factories, if they were lucky enough to not die in childhood

  • yes like I said the rich kids went too school & yes almost evreyone had lots of money duringthis time & most of the people where white to & from my understanding it wasent up until 1876 that all kids where requiered to go to school but the poor ones that worked couldent evan afored it.

  • @ilove1994

it's so amazing how much things have changed since then!

  • Yeah we went from whereing suits & dresses evreyday to whereing slobby clothes we went from listening to good music from listening to bad music.

  • @ilove1994 You're correct!

  • @ilove1994 I suppose the called it Gay without thinking of poofters as they like to be called these silly times1

  • @musicologo1able No they called it gay because when 1900 came the peopleof the end of the Victorian era looked back & thought Wow the 1890s where a swell Happy gay time period.

  • awesome this helped me a lot in creating my history project, and also finding the perfect song for my slide show

    thanks a lot...5*

  • Glad to help & thanks for the 5.

  • With all the breakthroughs and discoveries during that era, it must have been a fascinating time...
