"His car control was extraordinary, even compared with the many talented drivers I have had the opportunity to drive against over the years. ... [He drove a] Grand Prix car to the absolute limit of its ability."
Senna, Schumi, Gilles, Moss, Fangio. All brave drivers. They had their faults. It is very difficult to compare drivers from another era. The sport changes, so do the ethics of the sport, wether you like it or not. Although, I am a great Ferrari fan,but I must say I was very happy when Schumi did not succeed in pushing Jacques Villeneuve off at Jerez in '97.
Quit having a go on Schumi. Gilles is a good drivers so is Schumi. Schumi had one accusation of cheating the 1997 European grand prix against Jacques. IF HE DID ANYTHING ELSE WRONG THE FIA WOULD HAVE TOLD HIM OFF. Gilles is brilliants so is Schumi. You hate him because people who have had the most glory can be hated because of jealousy.
Yes Mike, agreed. Constantly driving the car the fastest all the time. Schumacher did the same, with fastest lap after fastest lap with no loss in determination. Prost on the other hand was fully built on intelligence, not stressing his car when he didn't need too.
He was NOT like Senna. Please stop comparing Senna to him. Senna was ultra-aggressive defending position and often used dirty tactics. Gilles always gave room.
Not entirely true. In his later years, Gilles very much matured as a driver. in Monaco 81, he drove a very smart race, he paced himself, and when his time was right, he gave it his fullest. People underestimate how tactical and calculated his victory was. In Jarama, he drove flat out all the way, with a car that handled like a shopping cart. He could do both, and that is what counts to be a great driver. Today you'd be fined and penalized for blocking, possibly even black flagged.

i think it is a myth that villeneuve was a total gentleman, he was a racer and a winner and maybe he was not as ruthless as senna but the battle with arnoux at dijon was quite dirty!
How so? Because they banged wheels? I'm a racer, and that's just normal between two drivers hanging it out on the edge. Neither of us do it intentionally, but when you have two drivers who won't give an inch, it's bound to happen. Gilles and René didn't point fingers or trade dirty words afterward; on the contrary, they became fast friends after that race. Dirty is intentionally driving your car into someone when you see you are about to loose (see Schumacher on several occasions).
well that is a matter of opinion and because your a self-proclaimed expert racer does not mean anything because it is all subjective. I have seen several comments on youtube attacking villeneuve for bad driving in that famous arnoux battle but i think it was good racing. Your attack on Senna is not correct, Senna was a gentlemen (most of the time) but he had his faults and so did Villeneuve, they are both great men. Schumacher i agree was perhaps the most dirty driver of all time!
What attack on Senna? The only thing half negative I'd ever have to say (and I don't even take it as negative) is that now and then, he get fed up with the bull and probably let it get away from his normally intelligent driving. Senna was perhaps the last of the greats in the old school...he won or lost fair and square. I agree, neither Senna nor Gilles was perfect, but neither did anything to soil the reputation of racing.
Gilles was a very hard racer, but the comment that most impressed me on Gilles came from Keke Rosberg, saying: Gilles was the hardest bastard I ever raced against, hard but absolutely fair. If you beat him into a corner, he would never close the door or come down on you, Gilles was a giant of a driver. I agree 100%, he never did any Schumacher dirty tricks, Gilles is legend, Schumacher never.
Whats up dude, Keke did have it right, I have never seen him close the door on anyone! Yea, him and Rene touched wheels but neither of them intentionally tried to runthe other off the road! Schumacher on the other hand, well we both know better! Senna was guilty of it too but nobody could comapare to Schumacher when it came to the dirty trick! Thats the only thing hes a legend of, cheating!
Craigg, how are you bro? Schumacher is surely the cheatmeister no doubt,he will never be legend, hehe..none of the current crop will ever be, they have absolutely no code of honnor. Good comment bro, see u later pal.
I'm good man, and your absolutely right! I thought Lewis was above all that shit but I lost a lot of repect for Mclaren after the lying in Australia! I think it was pretty lame theywaited 4 days before starting an investigation but theres not much they can do now! They shouldnt either cause they did lie and its pretty sad! Its been a pretty intresting year so far though, we'll see what happens! Take car bro
@craigg1981 Other times, other tricks. Dirty times, dirty tricks. Everybody is cheating these days. Sportsmen, Bankers, CEO's, you, me.... That's why it is such a fuckin' mess
Really well put together, it's easy to see the amount of work you put into it. Good tune aswell, altough it's a shame it doesnt get going toward the end.
Ho 37 anni,l'ho seguito fin da bimba con il mio papa'.Amo Gilles.....rimmara' per sempre nel mio è nel cuore di tantissime persone. Thanks Mike:-D

I agree but behind the wheel he was something special. Much like Senna he only knew how to win going as fast as he could unlike say Prost.
