@EuroHEV I don't know but its always like that. Movies like Alien, Predator, Terminator, and Robocop, which are all rated R had several lines of toys that were really succesful. And then, they won't let Batman Returns have a toy line because its too frightening.
I remember at the time thinking "Damn, ECW has arrived!" When they got the toys...then, I thought "Why the hell does ECW need TOYS!? Their stuff isn't for kids!"
The funny thing is, when I was little, growing up with WWF and to a lesser extent WCW, ECW was a shock to me, and I always wondered why the would make toys for kids from such a crazy, violent (But awesome) promotion.
paul e. only made the action figures to gain some revenue since he got ECW a national tv deal with TNN...unfortunatly we know how that turned out *sigh*
Nice. We still have Tazz w belt, RVD w chair, and Dudley Boyz w garbage can, I think (which were not shown here). I wanted to get Raven but couldn't find him:(
Another thing I was able to get during this extreme era was the entire issues of ECW magazine (all 6, the first three were glue spined and the others in staples).
The only problem I had with these Action Figures were the fact they came with Stupid Action Features which I HATE with a Passion on Wrestling Figs & they had Limited Articulation & Flexability.
Other than that, they were awesome figures to collect.
They got the Shane Douglas figure absolutely spot on perfect in everyway.
I had a bunch of these back in the day! Good ol' Toys R Us. I had Sandman, New Jack, Super Crazy, Sabu, Both Dudleyz, Taz, Mike Awesome, RVD, Tommy Dreamer, Raven, Balls Mahoney. I even had the ring and multiple weapons, Fuck if I had only saved them....
Superior to jakks pacifics bone crunchers in every way!-now had these come a year earlier or jakks not changed the standard figure scale with titan tron figures-These may have given jakks a run for their money-These definitley were the remco AWA's of the late 90's/early 2000
i was lucky enough to get eight of these on ebay and i got them in the mail today, and looking on the back of the cards, i realized i had a rob van dam figure when i was little.
i had all of the first wave of figures excoet for shane dougas and chris candidio and from the other waves i had balls mahoney, axl rotten, and jerry lynn
taz, sabu, lance storm, rvd, tommy dreamer, justin credible, d-von and bubba ray dudley, chris candido, shane douglas, and new jack made up what was considered the first two waves. Then there was a couple other waves that included repaints as well as other new figures. the new ones were tajiri, super crazy, axl rotten, balls mahoney, raven, sandman, mike awesome, rhino, little guido, nova, steve corino, and jerry lynn. i am pretty sure that is all. they also made sum bpretty sweet weapons set
sorry man i dont know of any websites i did a google search and found a couple of pics. just try using a google and u can find a couple also. and i never saw the ring in person. The first line was easy to find where i lived and then i saw the later series one time when i was in san antonio and bought a few then.
ecw wasn't really a product aimed at kids. vince was right about ecw in one aspect, they would have needed to change their product in order to appeal to a broader audience if they were gonna get bigger.
Sure that could've got them bigger, but who cares? They still got bigger than anyone could've expected! From a lil bingo hall in Phillie that produced overtly violent/true wrestling they got on PPV, had video games made, and the toys. Just what WWF + WCW had at the time. Only those 2 were "kiddie friendly" which was an already tapped market. ECW was for fans who wanted actual wrestling althetism and violence NOT hella gay gimmicks and boring matches.
@bobhoffnee I was one of those kids and I have some of the wrestling action figures to bad I opend the box but hey they were awsome and at the time who knew it was gonna fall
Lol love it. I wish i bought them but meh. Wont see many stars doing a toy commercial from WWE these days. And they hyped Justin Credible in there figure line, bit odd.
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH this is hilarious! The good old days. I have a Tommy Dreamer and a Sabu, they're still standing on my t.v. I saw a Raven in a Toys R Us about 3 years ago for 99 cents. I didn't get it though :(
Cool I've actually seen some of these for sale at toywiz. com, btw does anybody know what year this was? It's kind of funny seeing a commercial like this for the original ECW
