The phrase "water lily" is used to describe aquatic plants of the following families, which have lily pads: Nymphaeaceae & Nelumbonaceae (Nelumbo) / lotus Lotuses are 5 species of water lilies, three in the genus Nymphaea and two in Nelumbo; both genera are members of the water-lily family, Nymphaea lotus, the Egyptian white lotus, is believed to be the original sacred lotus of ancient Egypt. It and the Egyptian blue lotus, N. caerulea, were often pictured in ancient Egyptian art

The Lotus flower was always one of my favorites, the others are Tulips, Roses and one other I can't recall.

Lotus are very abundant in Asia. They eat the seeds of the lotus like a sunflower seeds.

u can eat the lotus seeds when it's harden up a bit. and the bitter piece inside the seed is used to make tea. our house is right on the river bank in vietnam, so i see them all the time. beautiful images you got there.

Also the water lily leaves have a notch in them while lotus leaves are full round.

Thank you, that was beautiful! Where did you get all those beautiful pictures!? I wish there was some more classical type romatic music for the back ground though. But thank you! Also lotus leaves "repel" water and the reproductive parts of lotus have a circular cone shaped thing there.
