mejor banda del mundo lejos, y creo ya que si bien con fish me enamore de esta banda , me parece que ahora son mejores musicos y con un hogart impresionante , nada que ver cuando recien ingreso . amo marillion
I saw this live, and I have the shirt and post card to prove it. I remember catching a train to Minehead and hearing a bloke say "I hope they drop Berry this weekend." I love it.
The smell of the wax on the wooden floor Mixture of polish and soap No children to fear or to play with Rows of empty hooks for the coats An upright piano and the boys in the choir Still remind him of just before he was born Remind him of just before he was breathing Strange misty visions of God Turn the cities into families Into villages of souls Hovering in the air while they're sleeping With their houses invisible Chase the moon between the buildings to me the ghosts of Christmas
This Strange Engine = The Human Heart... brilliant lyrics, passion, emotion, music. Thank you gents, for sharing your souls. the connection was...solid.
best 2nd generation marillion song there is .. HANDS DOWN... man.. they run over 20 minutes on this song.. steve rothery just throws down on this one... WISH I WAS AT THIS SHOW.
I wonder where the inspiration of this song came from? Perhaps it was H's own childhood. If so, if I were him, I'd still be wincing from the bees... Ouch.
From what he has later said in interviews and at h natural shows, this is indeed about his own childhood.. A captivating, haunting song by the way....
I can't possibly disagree witgh you, but then I often find myself saying that about his lyrics, Estonia, Somewhere Else, Afraid of Sunlight, This Train, the list goes on.. Most of the lyrics draw on some personal experience, h 'just' manages to deliver the lyrics in a way which is highly personal, but appeals universally.. This goes hand in hand with his performance, he can portray so much emotion, anguish in Somewhere Else, pure joy of singing to/with the audience in Happienss id the Road...
Well, that's easy, thev've miniaturised the saxofonist and have put him inside the instrument which is holding Hogarth. So, when the saxofonist has to play, Steve Hogarth pushes a button to advise him to play...
what another wonderful song of this great band , especially the beginning and the end of the track . The bridge "the smell of the wax on the wooden floor ..." is one of most beautiful part in any Marillion songs . Always brings tears in my eyes ... We can feel all Steve H. tenderness , as if recalling his childhood years , just like in "marbles" ...
Yeah you're right . We must never forget the FISH years . CLUTCHING AT STRAWS is a wonderful LP , just like MISPLACED CHILDHOOD was ... Anyway , I really enjoy all Marillion discography with Fish . Remember "Chelsea monday" , "Incubus" . But it was another kind of music of course ...
the great master steve rothery , emotional and perfect, classic and marillion is a example of music for what look the band mew model 2000 ,,,, 2008 , marillion forever , live to good music .
I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'almost as good'. Is baring the bones of your upbringing so openly 'almost as good' as a vague tribute to your roots? Is singing from the heart 'almost as good' as having a bit of a rant? Is musical beauty 'almost as good as' commercial success? It's a tough one to decide, depending on your views.
How can you not appreciate the tremendous talent of this band! I have always been a "Fish era" fan and still can not get over what they could have done had they stayed together. I still think that they both are a shell of what they once were. It seems that Marillion has improved A LOT, time has played in their favor!! I never thaught I would have them on my favorite list with Steve H., he does a nice job with them. Check out "Somewhere Else" live. GREAT BAND!!!
Yes, every album they've ever done is great (and that's 14, going on 15 of 'em!). If this is the first Marillion song you've ever heard, I'm a little (pleasantly) surprised you took to it right away, as this is a really long, involved track. But hey, kudos to you for liking it straight away. This is only half of the song, BTW -- be sure to check out Part 2.
This is a really 'proggy' song, so I think you'd probably really like the "Brave" album in particular. It's a masterpiece.
Hi mflagg19. I was so glad to read your comment on this song. I agree with Ken5244 that Brave might be an excellent album for new Marillion fans. I suggest that you also listen to some of the material on the Marbles album - especially Ocean Cloud and Neverland. Jug my memory :-)
Thank you. I will certainly check it out. Being that my favorite band is Porcupine Tree, it seems kind of natural that I would become a fan of these guys, they're great.
I guess I ought to check out Porcupine Tree right away? I'm always looking out for excellent music, but not many bands with the same qualities as Marillion are around. Keep rocking :-)
Absolutely stunning! I love music which takes it a step further, exploring different tempos and themes within the same song to produce a longer piece with it's own sence of harmony somewhat like Bohemian Raphsody by Queen.. Not to say that they can be compared, nothing really compares to anything..
Si Narriagada, este recital está en el DVD WIsh You Were Here, Disc 1 - Popular Music, MARILLION WEEKEND 2003: SATURDAY NIGHT "TOP 10" SET. Realmente un gran concierto!!! 100% recomendable. Saludos!

I wished, Marillion would write more faster songs...
There are really too much slow, sad and melanchonic songs.........
Please, create more like "Incommunicado"! ;)

This is as good as anything Marillion has with Fish. So for those who dismiss Hogarth's era completely, all I can say is this: Q Tips.

I still don't like the Hogarth era as much as I like the Fish era, but Hogarth's voice is good and I like how he gives rothery more room to solo.

Fantastic performance of the song: Rothery is incredible.
However, one thing is confusing me: who the hell is playing that Saxophone solo!? :S

I saw them play Seasons End in Montreal and the sax in Berlin was fed to the speakers from a computer that Mark was using.
