  • How much does this weigh? I need it for licensing reasons.

  • @UnivitedSam Check the specifications on x-tremescooters doccom website for exact specifics and look at the XB-502 since this XB-500 model was discontinued.

  • im in oregon is it legal for me to ride my moped it only goes 18 but it has no pedals

  • @Mcneelynoah If you own a moped (mopeds have no pedals) you should be able to drive it legally if you have it registered and you have a license required to operate it. Check with you state since I do not know which moped you own. If you owned an e-bicycle like this one that you commented on, it would have pedals and it would be a "power assisted bicycle" and those should be legal to ride if you follow the bicycle laws.

  • can you take the pedal off????

  • @smamann Yes, you can easily and quickly remove the pedals if you would like. They are not required to ride this scooter. Please look at our XB-502 model on x-tremescooters dotcom because this model has been replaced with the newer 502 model.

  • Anyone that's bought an E-bike or plans to, if you send me a msg with your email I'll email you a 2 page doc you can print out & carry with you to show anyone who DARES tell you they're illegal!

We e-bikers need to stick together. ;)

  • dont the pedals ever clip the floor when cornering?

  • @ubersecretrapist : Assuming it's like UK spec models, If you bank hard enough to clip the pedals, your head will 'clip' the ground pretty soon after! The tyres & suspension aren't made for cornering. They're not performance bikes but as short range urban commuters they rock.

I tested mine against a car on a 6 mile rush-hour trip using GPS. The bike averaged 12MPH which sounds lame, but standing traffic meant that the car averaged just 2MPH more. Fuel for the car, approx £1, for the bike, 5p.

  • @ubersecretrapist floor?

  • i would like to thank you partcentpc for all your help and i will call one soon. thumbs up all the way for the support!

  • Sure. At this point the best thing to do for you would be to contact an X-Treme Scooter dealer. You can locate one on the main website at X-Tremescooters then click on locator in the upper right corner and a dealer can answer the rest of your questions.

  • thank you partcenpc but all myne says is that Through Texas's motorcycle helmet law (bicycle helmet laws from city ordinances), it is only required for those 21 years old or younger to wear a helmet. but no age restrictions or minmum age can you help me.

  • hello partcentpc i was wondering if there was a age restriction and what it was if there is one thank you.

  • Go to Wiki Pedia.org then search for Electric Bicycle Laws, here you will find of the laws for all of the states in the USA. Youtube would not allow me to paste in the link so you will have to do the search on your own on google or using your address bar in your browser.

  • are there any age restrictions for it ??

  • are there any age restrictions for it though ??

  • are there any age restrictions for it ??

  • in the united states, federal law states an electric bike must be 750watts or less. must have functional pedals and it can go no faster than 20mph on level ground with a 170Lb rider. any faster or more powerful requires a drivers licence. over 30mph and/or over 1500 watts (2hp) requires a motorcycle endorsement.

  • i got mine but i got blue and since im a kid it goes almost to 40 since im light

  • This is the way to go for your short commutes, school, etc. I ride mine to the office which is close - I am the envy up there. They call me Mr. Green. Got it at xtremescooters4u and they shipped it right away. About the price of a decent bike, so its a no brainer. And yes, its considered a bike, not a moped or motorcycle.

  • What state was your guy in that got the ticket? I can assure you that the ticket will not stick, all he needs to do is bring the federal law and depending on which state he is in, his state law in to the judge that show's they are LEGAL in the state and he will be off the hook.

Of course it's a hassle, your dealing with some cop who thinks he knows everything and he thinks that because it "looks like a moped" that it is a moped and he's wrong and it can be easily proven.

  • I was in the MTO the other day and there was a sign about the "new moped / scooter license" now required to drive one of these. It's an M license but different from the motorcycle license.

  • Go back in to the MTO (what is an MTO?) and ask them if they require a license for an electric power assist bicycle. You have to specify bicycle. They probably won't even know what your talking about, which generally means there is no requirement since we cannot find any requirement in any state anywhere, however we do find many states that say e-powered bicycles need nothing to ride, just follow the laws of a bicycle. The fed's back that up as well.

  • Yes, that is true, but this vehicle isn't a scooter or moped, its classified under the 3 year trial study of motor assisted bicycles, which states clearly, that vehicles under this classification must have operating pedals at all times, a motor wattage under 500W, travel no more than 32Km/hr, and have some sort of signage declaring the vehicle as a motor assisted vehicle.

  • i got mine for 750$

  • get one

  • I really want one of those! Are they worth it? My dad thinks not, but i disagree. So idk wat to do.

  • or u could just buy a petrol one ?

  • what's the weight limit for one of these?

  • depends on which model you get. they all can handle bout 300, but they've been tested to hand 400. its possible for 400, but it goes slower

  • 300 pounds

  • @lbheavy212 Can you or anyone show me a link to where I can buy one for 300 quid?

I failed three driving tests on "hesitation" (for fuck sake...) the price of a car and fuel in the UK is astronomical !

I'd spend a year's wages as a student just paying for a new car, I REALLY need something like this to get around :)

  • ... you gotta get to burger king somehow right ...

  • how long would it take to ship this to Canada- Ontario (Toronto) ???

  • Buy the xb 600 not the 500. It looks cooler and you can mod it :p

  • Actually, you can mod any of the XB product line. You can swap out hub motors, controllers, better and/or more batteries, install DC-DC converters and audio equipment, and the same shunt mod that works on DIY 36 / 48 volt eBikes will work on the XB bikes too (gives better hill climbing, but it drains the battery pack faster)

  • Get these scooters cheap at the Scooter Net Store

    Good people to deal with.

  • how tall are you? I'm six foot three and I'm considering buying one and I dont want to have one without leg room, it would look silly and it would be uncomfortable.

  • also, how hard do you have to pedal to make it go faster?

  • i dont even use the pedals to be honest

  • If your 6 foot you can ride this no problem but if you want some extra space spend a little more and get the XB-600 instead. If you look on google for "xb-600 shunt " and do a search, you can find out how to make your XB-600 do 35 MPH by adding 2 extra batteries and making 1 small modification. There are 100's of people who modify these e-bikes to run in the 30's, if speed is what you need.

  • yes you would have leg room,i just got my xb-500 today and you will have lots of room.even my fat brother has more room then what he needs xD

  • how old do you have to be to ride one of these?

  • Just follow the same laws in your state as are in place for bicycles and you will be ok. These are Power Assisted Bicycles, that's what the pedals are on there for, no license is needed, no license plates, no registration or insurance is needed either. This is not a moped, it's a power assisted bicycle that looks just like a moped. The pedals change it's classification. If we did not have pedals on it, it would then be a moped.

  • No, partcentpc, if you remove the pedals, it will be a scooter. A moped has to have peddles that's what the "ped" in moped stands for. If it has pedals and a motor it is a moped. If it has no pedals and a motor it is a motorcycle or a scooter.

  • fyi moped dont have to have pedals, depending where you are moped means different things,in quebec,if its a bike with a motor no bigger than 49cc and automatic its a moped, see sachs madass, the automatic one is considered a moped.whwere as a 4 speed is a motorcycle

  • I have had one for 1.5 yrs and love it! It has saved me from having to get another car. Only need the pedals for steep hills,..which I just tend to avoid.

  • I have had the XB-500 for 1.5yrs. I love it. I have a prius, but use this for short trips to the bank, market,...Cali Burrito etc...It is great. Goes about 22mph on a flat, lasts for around 15-18 miles and charges in about 4-6 hrs. i broke the brake handle when it dropped one time in the garage, but bought a replacement one from extreme scooters. The XB-500 can save you from buying a second car in your household,..and no exhaust. Pedals not reqd unless u have really steep hill.

  • this sux..definetily not for stunts..:(

  • thats exactly like mine except mine is all white with a red tail light

  • Hey uhh, I there anyone here that has acually brought and rode this bike, because I,m Think about buying this modile and I didn't see a customer review on the site

  • y not buy a motorized 1, i think ther better

  • Hi, I was just looking at specs for this bike on the website, 20-25 miles per charge, does that mean per battery or all four?

  • There is a set of 4 batteries and they are all being used at the same time, so the bike will run on a full charge meaning all 4 batteries are installed as normal and charged up.

  • how much does it cost

  • about $900

  • So, you have to have driver licence for all mopeds?

    And what about electric scooters?

  • No licenses is needed for e-bicycles. The mopeds will need a license in most states however in allot of states if you register the mopeds as mopeds and not motorcycles you wont need a license. Again, this XB-500 e-bike your asking about does not require license plates, drivers license or insurance in any state to operate as it's a power assisted bicycle.

  • here in the uk these are completely legal to ride from the age of 14 and above on the roads the e bike speed limitis ment to be 14mph but tbh with some capable of 30mph whos gunna no wen ure speeding or not

  • you got to be 16 to drive a moped in the UK

  • Can you say that in English?

  • i wish i knew that 2 years ago when i had a electric moped i was always carful not to get caught now its in 30 parts lieing around rusting because i never drove it

  • There's a lot of confusion here in California. Technically this is categorized as either a moped, or a motorized bicycle, both requiring an M2 license or endorsement in California. California does give you a slight break by not requiring annual plate renewals on mopeds, and plates are not required on motorized bicycles.

  • California or any other state for that matter will not allow you to register a bicycle as a moped, it's not possible because it's not a motor vehicle. Just because it "looks" like a moped does not make it a moped. If you want to try, take one of these to the DMV and they will tell you it cannot be done.

These are power assisted bicycles, no need to register them, they are perfectly legal in CA to drive anywhere you like, they are treated like a bicycle, follow those laws & your good to ride!

  • See Section 406(b) VC on the CHP website. You need at least an M2 endorsement completion, and pass the written exam in California. If it's under 1KW, you don't need a moped plate. No need for pedals if it's electric. Section 406(b) VC applies to the vehicles in question. Don't believe me about the M2? Talk to CHP Commissioner J. A. Farrow, see what he has to say about Section 406(b) vehicles. Also I would avoid Palo Alto and Mountain View if I were you. Welcome to California!

  • Yep...welcome to Commie California.

  • Say hello to governer commie for me

  • hey, im thinking about buying this bike. just one question.. how fast wer you going in that vid, thanks

  • I don't remember how fast we ran the bike in the video but the bike will do 20+ MPH which is actually really fast on a bicycle. It will hold this speed for many miles as it has 4 batteries in it. This bike has 12 AMP batteries, the XB-508 has slightly larger 14 AMP batteries and the XB-600 has very large long lasting 20 AMP batteries installed in it. Those are the main differences between the 3 models offered.

  • hey what is the difference in amps anyways? how will is be better to have more?

  • you getting this too? it looks good and the best deal iv seen on an electric bike. i hope to get mines in 2 weeks, just need a couple of dollars more...

  • It looks like a nice electric moped for a smaller person. THe guy riding it seems a bit big for it.

One engineering flaw seems to be the placement of the bicycle pedals, which are too far back toward the rear wheel to be comfortable for any lengthy amount of pedaling.
