  • I think this is the best blues video I've ever seen. You are awesome.

  • Justin, I love you, man. Thanks for the lessons.

  • I've been playing around six years but the theory is pretty new to me and I never took musicology classes.

So the one, four and five chords are basically what make us hear the same change of notes in the wrong key as the same song, right?

  • @kaa3164 not sure what you mean

  • I got to 1:52 and flew out of my chair going WHAAHAHAHAAAAT?

  • excellent lesson! thanks justin.. this really helped :) you are an excellent teacher I must say!

  • Thank you Justin for sharing your knowledge.

  • Hey man, great lesson, I am gonna do the whole series, Blues is a really fun and (at a basic level) easy part of playing guitar. Great that you teach how to play it.

  • DUUUUDE!!! thank you so much!!! i fell like i just had a revelatiooooon!

  • "And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships. Just tons of great lessons :)"

  • 2:17 Din't know that KFC has chords :D

Awesome lesson, Justin =) Thank you!

  • I thought the position 1 scale would go (from low E to a)

    E:b, d

    A:e, f#

    not

    E:c,d

    A:e,f,f# ?

  • Great Lesson fun basic blues and my left hand hurt as hell !

    :)

  • Great lesson!!!

  • Nice men. 15:49

  • Got to get those fingers stretching for this one I find, great lesson though.

    Ps I love that telecaster!

  • Lovely picture - what camera and lighting are you using?

Thanks for the lesson, very interesting.

  • Yes I do understand, but 5 minutes went by talking crap, I gave up. I want to learn to play the guitar, not how to present a video!

  • How about soloing over a blues track? Are you going to give a few tips regarding that? That would be awesome :)

    Great lesson!

  • @pedro201 ?? check web site dude, 20 lesson series...free of course!!

  • Grate lesson as ussual. Thanks Justin.

  • LOVE Justin's lesson and style of teaching. His web site really rules too! Highly recommend it!

  • 02:35 I knew you hould say B! I knew it!

  • Found the backing tracks and put 5 quid of gas in the website :) Thanks for all the lessons etc and, for what it's worth, I like the 4 min of talking at the start. Means that I get the lesson explained to me - helps heaps. That guy was a 'spoon' (ancient Maori word meaning dickhead - Jedi can confirm the translation). :)

  • once again you helped me out alot :D thank you man

  • not sure this is the proper venue, but a request if i may justin.... how 'bout some QOTSA? mexicola would be awesome but any would be cool. keep up the fantastic work!

  • I always start my day in the KFC

  • Thanks for another EXCELLENT lesson.Your way of teaching is so helpful welcoming.Blessings to U! 5 *****

  • I like this. Pretty straightfoward in terms of rhythm and structure, but I needed this for added variation in terms of possible movement around the neck. Not having the biggest hands means having to work on alternative techniques to maintain comfort. Thanks for video.

  • 3 dislikers can't play this...

  • the 4th chord in the KFC will be F

  • @JustinSandercoe Thanks for the great explanations. Super lesson.

  • Great lesson keep it up !

  • Puede ser en español

  • @NewPartyMovement if you have nothing good to contribute better not write anything .

  • @TheNewPartyMovement You do understand that this is a lesson that requires explanation, right? It is a simplification of theory, and theory is the talking part, so stop whining about it. This is not "Mary had a little lamb" or some other such thing that has no variation to it. He isn't teaching a song, he is teaching a technique, he can't just show you notes or other crap, he has to explain the relation of the chords to each other. Your comment makes it plain to see that you don't play.

  • This a a great workout, I have little finger problems too so I understand that problem.

  • 1 person is deaf

  • @SASELITE11 and you're queer

  • Man the muscles in my lower arm are having a workout holy.. this really hurts lol, i can barely finish a 12 bar in the key of A let alone stand the key of F!

  • Hey Justin, you know khan academy? they have some kind of map wich highlight what you already know. Why dont you do something like that? Starting ou D A E and a basic test to see if the student knows what he's doing and then move on.

  • is this meant to be a comedy video?

  • my fingers sucks. i'm 25 and i fear it's too late for me to learn to play guitar :(

any suggestions on how to exercise my fingers?! doesn't have to be blues. i wanna learn basics for now

  • @McShieldBash Go to Justin's website linked in the video description and click on "Beginner's Course", that has a very comprehensive introduction to the basics of guitar playing. If you follow it and don't rush through it, I guarantee you'll eventually end up here and be able to play this just fine. This really isn't the best lesson to start with, it assumes quite a bit of knowledge and practice has gone before.

  • Hi justin, excellent lesson!... The beta automatic subtitles aren't working well enough, so, is there any way I can collaborate to put spanish subtitles for students all over latin america, spain, etc. I'm sure they will appreciate that a lot. It took me a lot more than 20 minutes to realize these facts by myself back in the 90's!

  • @Pedro010180 Esta muy bien. Seria genial tener subtitulos en español para que puedan aprovechar la lección muchas más personas.

  • You should teach the pattern because I don't know it.. Can someone please tell me?

  • @CrazyTrain0111 The most basic progression ( if you do mean this by pattern ) is : I-I-I-I IV-IV-I-I V-V-I-I

  • @adamciezkowski Thanks

  • @adamciezkowski 4 bars of the 1 chord + 2 bars of the 4 chord + 2 bars of the 1 chord + 1 bar of the 5 chord + 1 bar of the 4 chord + 1 bar of the 1 chord and 1 more bar for the turnaround= 12 bar blues. That in my mind is the most common and basic. Your pattern looks good too, I'll have to try that.

  • @CrazyTrain0111 look up the 12 Bar Blues in the beginners Course, and the "variations" - you'll need to be solid with these if you want to progress with this intermediate course!!

  • @CrazyTrain0111 i don't mean to be rude but you really should do some more research before asking someone else to do the work for you.

  • 1 person tried to play F as 5th in the B Key

  • thank you, greatly helpful.

  • Excellent

  • Hey justin, this is a superb lesson! Thx a lot for sharing your guitar wisdom ;-)

  • You are such an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for your work on the Internet. You are a hero!! God bless you for helping us out and making more music possible in this world of ours!!

  • "sounds hazardous" Justin you are a card. Thanks.

  • .....I'm starting to think that you can read my mind!

  • Really good video! :D

  • Above and beyond. Thanks Justin.

  • Hey Justin, how can we download the backing tracks. Bit of a pain to have to be glued to an internet connection. Nice to be able to store them on a mp3 player hint hint :)

  • Great lessons, enjoy the run tomorrow!! :)

  • Justin thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone for free. You are a great teacher. I'll donate some money for you. Cheers from Portugal

  • THIS IS EXCELLENT. YOU MUST BE A ALIEN OR SUTIN

  • Thanks for all of your vids and this one because it is not always easy to see how to play with confidence and your lessons do that. So thanks again.

  • best teacher evar

  • Anybody else heard the main riff of Blitzgrieg Bop in the 3-chord sequence (although it's not actually played with power chords)?

  • @sancombru I IV V isnt iconic to blitzkrieg bop

  • @thestainisgone485 Then again, I wasn't asking if it was iconic or not now was I? Only if any1 else heard it 2. ;-)

  • @sancombru yeah but its like hearing a I V VI IV and saying hey does this sound like don't stop believing to anybody.

  • lol "that sounds pretty hazardous"

  • Great fucking lesson. This is the kind of thing that I look for on Youtube.

  • you may be the best guitar teacher on the planet, i buy the lick library dvds for 20 quid a disc and those guys are awesome.... and u teach just as good as those guys if not better :) not even joking man ppl know your a good player but teaching is seriously hard to do cos belive me ive tried lol but yeah cant wait fo these next lessons im hooked already :)

  • Great lesson-- that was a great breakdown of how this works. Also, glad to know I'm not the only one that has trouble with those reaches down the neck.

  • Awesome lesson as always Justin Thank you.

  • 164 likes, 0 dislikes.. Dayyumm!

  • This helped so much Justin! I've always wanted a concise way of finding the 3 blues chords. Now I can jam with my friends in any key!

  • it's like i'm pickin cototn in Lousianna

  • Buenisimo!

I like the 12 Bar Blues combinations!!

  • You always make great videos Justin, thank you.

  • You rule! Brilliant lesson

  • I like the Beatles!

  • Great lesson for beginners - well done.

  • I find that the whole stretching thing is pretty simple, at least when sitting down, as soon as I stand up I really struggle with it.

  • @kassemir I used to have the same problem. One day I had adjusted my strap so my son could play and forgot to change it back, but I found that it brought the guitar up to a position that made the changes easier and I was able to make the stretches with little effort. Of course it didn't 'LOOK' as cool, but who cares when it sounds so much better. Then I started to notice guys like Larry Carlton and other great players didn't shoot from the hip either. Just a thought!

  • @JonBouye Been experiemting with that myself, for me it's about finding a middle position, not too low, and not too high either. Yes it's easier to play the stretches with your guitar relatively high, but then your arms get tired much faster.

Right now my guitar is in that middle position, and it works for me, I can play the stretches, though it's a bit of a struggle, and my arms don't get tired in the same way.

But adjusting a strap to the right point is a science in it self :-D

  • @kassemir - I concur with everything you've said. I also noticed when playing make sure you're relaxed. I found when things got intense and if I sckunched my shoulders my arms got tired faster. Play on, my friend.

  • LOVE YOU MAN

  • Great lesson!

  • Thanks Justin!

  • J, that was an excellent tutorial. Congratulations on a well set out, accrate, well explained, methodical, patient conveyance of what is regularly seen as a very complex subject.

The amount of work you've put into your teaching is breath taking.

    Tony ;)

  • helpful!!!! thanx a lot!!!!

  • such a smart guy =)

  • Can't wait for the next lesson!!!

  • So the notes of the songs can be discovered knowing the first note on the key, and then look for them in the scale right?

If anyone know a lesson about this please give me a reply.

    Thanks for the lesson Justin.

  • @MxSmack Check this video it should answer your questions. /watch?v=DZEw2ApNhyk

  • Thx justin, great lesson. Are u planning to remake your old lesson?

  • Terrific and free!! So helpful to a struggling beginner.

  • this definitely cleared things up for me.... actually, it showed me things I didn't even know I didn't know.... thank you so much and as always, keep on rockin my friend

  • this has been v v helpful thanks justin

  • Nice good clear chanka-chanka

  • Amazing lesson as always! :)

  • this was so helpful

  • Thank you too much, you are the man!=)

  • Really nice lesson Justin but I think it would be a good idea to call a scale by either 'major' or 'minor' degree. So 'C Major' or C Minor'

  • A nice, solid start to the series. I'm looking forward to the rest of the lessons!

  • i like this series

  • Me gusta. :)

  • nice shirt

  • nice! Thanks for this:)
