Hey man, great lesson, I am gonna do the whole series, Blues is a really fun and (at a basic level) easy part of playing guitar. Great that you teach how to play it.
Found the backing tracks and put 5 quid of gas in the website :) Thanks for all the lessons etc and, for what it's worth, I like the 4 min of talking at the start. Means that I get the lesson explained to me - helps heaps. That guy was a 'spoon' (ancient Maori word meaning dickhead - Jedi can confirm the translation). :)
not sure this is the proper venue, but a request if i may justin.... how 'bout some QOTSA? mexicola would be awesome but any would be cool. keep up the fantastic work!
I like this. Pretty straightfoward in terms of rhythm and structure, but I needed this for added variation in terms of possible movement around the neck. Not having the biggest hands means having to work on alternative techniques to maintain comfort. Thanks for video.
@TheNewPartyMovement You do understand that this is a lesson that requires explanation, right? It is a simplification of theory, and theory is the talking part, so stop whining about it. This is not "Mary had a little lamb" or some other such thing that has no variation to it. He isn't teaching a song, he is teaching a technique, he can't just show you notes or other crap, he has to explain the relation of the chords to each other. Your comment makes it plain to see that you don't play.
Man the muscles in my lower arm are having a workout holy.. this really hurts lol, i can barely finish a 12 bar in the key of A let alone stand the key of F!
Hey Justin, you know khan academy? they have some kind of map wich highlight what you already know. Why dont you do something like that? Starting ou D A E and a basic test to see if the student knows what he's doing and then move on.
@McShieldBash Go to Justin's website linked in the video description and click on "Beginner's Course", that has a very comprehensive introduction to the basics of guitar playing. If you follow it and don't rush through it, I guarantee you'll eventually end up here and be able to play this just fine. This really isn't the best lesson to start with, it assumes quite a bit of knowledge and practice has gone before.
Hi justin, excellent lesson!... The beta automatic subtitles aren't working well enough, so, is there any way I can collaborate to put spanish subtitles for students all over latin america, spain, etc. I'm sure they will appreciate that a lot. It took me a lot more than 20 minutes to realize these facts by myself back in the 90's!
@adamciezkowski 4 bars of the 1 chord + 2 bars of the 4 chord + 2 bars of the 1 chord + 1 bar of the 5 chord + 1 bar of the 4 chord + 1 bar of the 1 chord and 1 more bar for the turnaround= 12 bar blues. That in my mind is the most common and basic. Your pattern looks good too, I'll have to try that.
@CrazyTrain0111 look up the 12 Bar Blues in the beginners Course, and the "variations" - you'll need to be solid with these if you want to progress with this intermediate course!!
You are such an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for your work on the Internet. You are a hero!! God bless you for helping us out and making more music possible in this world of ours!!

Hey Justin, how can we download the backing tracks. Bit of a pain to have to be glued to an internet connection. Nice to be able to store them on a mp3 player hint hint :)
you may be the best guitar teacher on the planet, i buy the lick library dvds for 20 quid a disc and those guys are awesome.... and u teach just as good as those guys if not better :) not even joking man ppl know your a good player but teaching is seriously hard to do cos belive me ive tried lol but yeah cant wait fo these next lessons im hooked already :)
Great lesson-- that was a great breakdown of how this works. Also, glad to know I'm not the only one that has trouble with those reaches down the neck.
@kassemir I used to have the same problem. One day I had adjusted my strap so my son could play and forgot to change it back, but I found that it brought the guitar up to a position that made the changes easier and I was able to make the stretches with little effort. Of course it didn't 'LOOK' as cool, but who cares when it sounds so much better. Then I started to notice guys like Larry Carlton and other great players didn't shoot from the hip either. Just a thought!
@JonBouye Been experiemting with that myself, for me it's about finding a middle position, not too low, and not too high either. Yes it's easier to play the stretches with your guitar relatively high, but then your arms get tired much faster.
Right now my guitar is in that middle position, and it works for me, I can play the stretches, though it's a bit of a struggle, and my arms don't get tired in the same way.
But adjusting a strap to the right point is a science in it self :-D
@kassemir - I concur with everything you've said. I also noticed when playing make sure you're relaxed. I found when things got intense and if I sckunched my shoulders my arms got tired faster. Play on, my friend.
J, that was an excellent tutorial. Congratulations on a well set out, accrate, well explained, methodical, patient conveyance of what is regularly seen as a very complex subject.
The amount of work you've put into your teaching is breath taking.
this definitely cleared things up for me.... actually, it showed me things I didn't even know I didn't know.... thank you so much and as always, keep on rockin my friend

I've been playing around six years but the theory is pretty new to me and I never took musicology classes.
So the one, four and five chords are basically what make us hear the same change of notes in the wrong key as the same song, right?
